Javier Fernandez

Is he still living in Cuatro Vientos?
If he is and he skated at 7 am you need to add another half an hour by car just to get to Invernalia (that's where he recorded himself). Add warm-up, costume, etc, and I don't want to even think about how early he was on his birthday... Happy birthday, Javi, we love you.
(Also hi yuzufans!! Those messages were lovely <3)

So... Javi's been more recognized lately, that's true. But I have this funny story of him around three weeks ago, on Sunday's afternoon. I'm sorry for not telling it before but I was bitter af because he went to a public session on a rink I usually go to... But I was skating that day on another rink. Sigh...
So, he went to that rink with his gf... And they actually charged him the normal entrance fee!:laugh::palmf:
...then someone told the girl selling the tickets "that was JAVIER FERNÁNDEZ, what are you doing?", and she was like "and who's that?"

...:drama::slink:

Happy birthday Javi! And thank you for showing up at the show via livestream, it was very sweet (especially since it was very early in Europe). :)

Regarding their relationship, it’s not Javier’s high tolerance and such that kept him and Yuzu being on good terms through all those years. It’s clear by the words that Yuzu braced himself for their rivalry to eventually not be friendly, like it did with Yagudin and Plushy. Considering none of them knew the other (aside from meeting in a few competitions), I get why he prepared himself to this scenario case. Yuzu is friendly, and after joining TCC he realized that Javi is the same way too. :) That friendly rivalry helped them both a lot to achieve their success, while being teammates that get along. :)

Though I have to say, I’m very surprised that the selling girl had no idea who he was... I mean, not recognizing Javi is one thing (that can happen), but not knowing...??
But that’s also why Javi is so busy after Winter Olympics. He needs to work on the “Olympic effect” so that people won’t forget about figure skating and his show. Especially since he’ll do few competitions, he has lot more time to work on this matter (and we have yet to know all his plans). World football cup is coming this summer and, well, as we know, football is basically a religion in Spain. So he’s doing what he can, and hopefully it will eventually work out.

Happy 27th birthday to the one and only, wonderful Javi!!! :cheer:

Here is Javi's full appearance at Yuzu's show, including the pre-recorded message, Javi skating the end of La Mancha (rather poorly, but hey, it was at the crack of dawn, I think it can be excused ), and then Yuzu conducting the whole arena to sing Happy Birthday for him.

I expect it must have been time for some more :bed: for Javi after this.

Feliz cumpleaños Javi!!!! I hope he had a wonderful day with his family (and that he managed to catch a few more hours of sleep after skating so early  ) congrats to this admirable athlete and person that won over the skating world with his amazing skating and charming personality
:hb:

He's doing a giveaway for his birthday!! Tickets for ROI, one in each city. You need to comment below and say the city you want the ticket for and then why do you want to go and he'll pick his favorite answers, one each city :hb:
Good luck!! I don't have Instagram but I think I'll go to the show buying my ticket anyway :)

And the reason for that clip: the Spanish National Ballet is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the director of which is none other than Antonio Najarro of course, who we just can't thank enough for that mindblowing Malaguena choreography. :luv17:

Here is the TVE report on Javi taking the stage with Najarro and two dancers of his company.

And we have the full, unedited clip of the sequence they performed. Javi looks like he was struggling a little to remember the choreography. It's been a while I guess. ;) But especially his upper body and arms compare quite well to the other two dancers! And Najarro is a vision of course, an absolute joy to watch.

Javi said he will still compete a little bit right? Has there official announcements where he will?

Well he has said he won't compete at Worlds anymore and that he does want to go to Euros. He also said he could take part in another competition here and there but didn't specify which.

I had hoped to see Javi side by side with Najarro one day to see how his movement compares to the dancers. And he looks pretty good! Skaters have often weak arms and upper body movement than dancers do, but in Javi's case his feet are the biggest difference...

Here's an interview that was (probably) done at the event: http://amp.europapress.es/deportes/...peo-puede-ser-adios-final-20180421110003.html

He is still talking about doing a competitive season with some minor events and the Europeans. And saying that the Euros can be his last competition...

The Olympic Channel took the opportunity and created a short flamenco + figure skating video on Javi. :)

Forbes magazine published an interview, featuring a photo with a very dashing Javi. ;)

Once again he speaks about the possibility of Europeans next season. I think we can safely say that unless there is some unexpected change in plans outside of his control, Javi will indeed do Europeans. When he mentions something so many times, even as just a possibility, he has usually made up his mind about it already.

And I love how Javi just goes ahead and says he wants to get the Princesa de Asturias award! That's the spirit! I really hope he will finally be recognized. They can't possibly ask for more than Javi has already done for his sport in his country.

We are already negotiating and struggling to get a high performance center in Spain where, if things do not change, I will act as organizer and coach. We work so that all the skaters have all the possible facilities, so that they do not need to leave the country to seek their opportunity.

:tantrum: he cares about this sport SO MUCH! :tantrum:
