Johnny's Reaction in the K&C

The article said: "When I took my brother, his wife and son to their first-ever figure skating event in Los Angeles last August, I was saddened to find that everyone entering the massive Staples Center had to go through a metal detector. None of the 50,000 fans we’d joined at Dodger Stadium the day before to see $100s of millions-worth of professional talent had to do that. But they did for the amateur Champions on Ice show, only because Weir had been singled out by what authorities felt were credible death threats."

Anyone know if this is true? We have been going through security at the Arrowhead Pond for SOI -- and for COI long before Johnny ever started touring with them. Also, I read in Christine Brennan's COI book that the tour instituted heavier security after Tonya/Nancy. For these reasons, I am kind of sceptical.

IMO, those who want to argue that "USFS has anti-Johnny agenda" should be very careful to get their facts straight -- getting them wrong really dilutes the argument. I think that the USFS is trying too hard to hype an Evan-Johnny rivalry, with the false accusations (made by Kurt and Terry) that the two "trash talked" each other in the press -- and I am blaming this for the horrible camera shots (going between Evan's joy in winning and Johnny's crying)

I'll admit I only watched the broadcasts when they aired and have yet to watch them again but I don't remember 'trash talk' being the phrase, just that they weren't taking crap off each other (that's how I interpreted what was said)

they weren't "I just want to skate my best" in the fluff pieces so I'd asume they did have some 'not your typical skating press conferences' and more power to them. Spice it up a bit!

I know in portland and to some extent st louis had the security people looking through bags and purses, but if they recognized you in st. louis or you had a badge of any kind you were basically waived through if there were even security people there (during practices)... Portland was waaaaaayyyyyy more strict with both security and cameras lol

Finally, someone with sense! Johnny was not at his best in Spokane, and to blame it on the USFS, without any proof is just plain dumb. Rivalries are important for paying customers. The USFS hyping Evan was important for business purposes. Johnny had plenty of USFS hype in previous years.

False.

According to the Staple's Center official web site

http://www.staplescenter.com/content/default.sps?itype=6763&icustompageid=10000

screening is standard security practice for all events.

"All guests entering the arena during an event are subject to a metal-detector screening, visual inspection, and a bag inspection conducted by STAPLES Center security personnel."

And here I thought they patted me down at "the can" (Pepsi center) because she liked me;) Sure was "friendly" about it.

BOT, One of my friends was really giving Johnny a hard time, his comments were very harsh toward his maturity. Yet I pointed out what he was like when his girlfriend of a month broke up with him, and his blubbering in my room for 2 hours of "what did I do" and how this was Johnny's life. It is understandable and Johnny is not afraid to show his emotions. It was hard to watch, and I could not help feel for him. He is not timid in showing us his feelings, that should be admired in some manner. 'nuf.

Here is the impression I got from the whole Nationals competitions thing. People were waiting, and wishing, that Johnny lose the title. Everyone wanted Evan to win because he had such a good season this year. Plus, he's (supposedly) straight and has a hot girlfriend that the camera made sure everyone saw over and over again. This secret romance between Evan and Tanith just so happens to come to light at Nationals - where the little gay boy who dares to be himself and explore life to the fullest and who doesn't train himself to death and who's had a disappointing season or two -- loses his title -- got creamed -- the homophobe fans loved it -- it was better than their wild imagination -- Johnny creamed and not only didn't get second place, but third!

Life is so unfair. It disgusts me how fair weather fans some people are. I hope Johnny kicks butt at Worlds but who knows what will happen at this point. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and hoping for a happy ending.

Who are these fair weather fans? I haven't seen anyone jump the bandwagon, all I've seen are more people coming out to support.

You cannot count those that watch only at the olympics (which I think were far more slanted than ESPN's coverage).

Yes I was waiting for (and hoping) Evan would win. Not because he's the straight one, but because he's my favorite. Kurt Browning's worked with Evan all year and really likes his skating so yes he was waiting for him to win...

ESPN was just excited there was some drama in an event that is normally so very predictable!

IIRC, the last time the US men's champ medaled at worlds was Michael Weiss in 2000. Since that time, the American guy on the podium at Worlds (or Olys) hasn't been champ. So, I wouldn't be surpirsed to see Johnny make it this year.

I don't USUALLY say stuff that is purely negative, but I am really sick of hearing this "Hetrophobic" crap over and over. People have explained this over and over, Piel did a great job TELLING THE TRUTH. So let's just quit with the over exaggerated, just as ethically pathetic and hypocritical crap OK!

I feel the exact same way. I'm hoping that Johnny is really pissed off. He trains hardest when he feels that he was slighted or wronged. I think this season may be a lost cause but, next season I wouldn't be surprised if he came back and kicked it just out of sheer pride and anger. He has a long break this summer. Time and anger is not something Lysacek wants him to have I'm sure. I think Johnny thought he could get by this season not training that hard b/c he's naturally more gifted-he thought wrong. If he trains as hard as Lysacek he'll get the title back. Johnny wasn't at his best this season. But, IMO Lysacek can't beat Johnny when he's at his best-no way. It's just a matter of how bad Johnny is willing to fight for it. He's the better skater; he knows that. But, Lysacek is the better competitor.

Triple Axel aside I think Evan and Johnny are very close in good skating. But I do agree that when Johnny is on Evan would have a hard time to beat him (Even being on)

or rather did... now he's the reigning US champ... if he doesn't crumble next year and keeps up the momentum.. the USFSA might keep him on top. Not because of any homophobia that might possibly be in one person's mind, but because that's how skating politics works.

Dick Button said it best, Johnny inspires Evan to work harder and do well and I think Evan's win will inspire Johnny to do the same. They may be competitors but in reality they need each other for that extra push to do better then they did last time.

I agree completely and am hoping for better things in Johnny's future. :agree: We're STILL with Weir!

It's their (Weir and Lysacek) era now. Come Vancouver, the US will have a third party in there. It could be Abbott, Carriere, Kannalakan, Steenberg, or my pick, an all grown up Adam Rippon. There are several other names I did not post and they are good. The Men's field in the US is doing just fine.

In addition to the 3 Graces, by Vancouver we will have matured Zhang and Nagasu. A very HOT US Ladies Nationals to get the 3 best.

Stick around

Joe

I am a Canadian skating fan and watched the US Nationals this weekend on TV. I was suprised Johnny dropped to third and thought the skate was OK not to his potential but respectable, Ivan was outstanding. I really think it is sad that this gay isssue gets any attention. I personally don't want to know what happens in thier personal life, I am a skating fan. When I went to worlds in Calgary I was disappointed that Johnny additude was not at this best, example taking forever to get up from his fall (attude), he should always remember skating fans from around the world are watching him,(PS. your on TV ,how you conduct yourself is important) having said that leave his personal life alone. We have Sandue and these issue surround him as well, I wish all skaters had no pressure to talk about their personal life to aplease certain groups and that all skaters stick to skate talk and keep thier personal and skating life's separate. Skaters could help themselves as well, do not open the door or you may get more attention than you bargained for!

Yes, you are absolutely right.:rolleye: Johnny, you need to stop with the attitude. I mean, so what if you have back spasms all week, and then fall a bunch of times in the warm up aggravating your injury. We don't care about that:boohoo: . So when you do have a hard fall in your program, we don't care if you're hurt, jump up immediately! Because don't you know skating fans all over the world are watching.
Please, Johnny, take note of this for future reference.:sheesh:

Most skaters have injuries at this level and they do not feel the need to be so dramatic, it a sport not a soap opera, they should make the decision to withdraw if the injury is that serious. I think the US has many great skaters and admire Johnny's skating but maybe some strong work ethic and positive attude would go a long way in making him a world champion. He is certianly capable and would be deserving of it. I wish him good luck!!

so when other skaters take more than a half second to get up they're faking it and being a drama queen/king about it too?
