Joshua Farris

Josh is leading off the Team USA Google+ Hangouts next week with the world team :).

Josh is scheduled for Monday Mar 9 at 7:30 pm ET.

(Not clear whether Scimeca/Knierim will join him or follow him on Monday.)

(BTW, Jason is the only world team member missing from the list . No explanation why.)

Yeah, i saw that and too was perplexed.

It could just be determining schedule and what day works better.

It also could be that they have a nothing is finalized when Kori is away policy. So with Kori off with Tyler at junior worlds, it may just be, a "you'll get your answer when the coach is back in the country" type thing.

It could also be that he declined not knowing he would be the odd one out. He has done a google hang out chat before. If it went poorly I could see them not wanting to do it again, even if it was something like this.

It could be team Koro have something else up their sleeve too.

And of course it could be bad I feel the need to be honest and acknowledge it so as to not jinx anyone

He also may still be in something of agent limbo after the death of Shep, so maybe something got snafued there.

Honestly, my guess is it's the wait till Kori is back is the most likely option.

I hope someone asks.

His last hangout was a ton of fun! I don't see why they would turn down the opportunity.

I'm going to guess that they were just still working out scheduling stuff since Kori is out. (Although Ashley's and Adam's coach would also be at Jr. Worlds with Nathan Chen...)

I remember JOsh did that practice Google hangout a few months (or last year) ago. That was pretty cool.

Didn't mean to hijack Josh's thread ... but of course I support Team Jason (as I know we all do) if they have good reason to be cautious about making him available.
karne previously has alluded to her concern for Jason as a target of stalkerish behavior. I don't know exactly what that means in Jason's case, but I myself have seen evidence of cyberstalking (at the very least) of other skaters. (And I hate to say that it is not unthinkable to me that some of the cyberstalking could escalate to in-person stalking.)

I don't recall any problem with Jason's previous Google+ Hangout ... but OTOH, he was one of the few skaters missing from the "Get to Know ..." series of mini-vids from Champs Camp. (So happens that Josh was another.)
I'm still not clear whether Jason's mini-video was published at some point and then quickly taken down. And if so, I have no idea why.

Anyway, I trust that Team Jason (incl. his parents and Kori) is using its best judgment in these matters.
And I look forward to Josh's Google+ Hangout.

I don't think it is that hard to find a stalker anymore. I have a family member with a gaming channel on Youtube that manged to get his own stalker before he hit 20k subscribers.

I have noticed that team Jason might be a bit more careful about alerting fans to where he is/or going to be. For instance, this outdoor skating event last year, other skaters were sending tweets out that day, Jason sent his out later as a "had so much fun" tweet. Similar thing happened with a trip to the ballet, Jordan sent out a tweet that day, Jason sent one out the next day. So I do wonder if they are careful about giving alerts to when and where Jason will be. It could also be his preference, or that they want to vet stuff first as well - no need to jump to stalker first. And if privacy was an issue I think they would have reigned in his training mates too. . . i mean, lets be honest here, stalkers watch the friends too. If your stalker is too dumb to do that, they likely are too dumb to be a threat.

But yes. . . some people will stalk. In fact I made the mistake of mentioning where Tara and Johnny were staying during the superbowl to a family member. . .guess where they had lunch that week! After assuring me that they know the concierge by name. In my defense I mentioned it because I remembered that they had stayed there while moving to the area, I thought it would be an innocent "didn't you stay there?" type conversation. Lesson Learned!

And Josh gets plenty of love and discussion in Jason's thread, I think they both just have good fans.

I'm looking forward to Josh's as well, though hoping he comes across a little more comfortable with his new role than he seemed at the press conferences.

What's "ET"? Can someone give me a location please? The name of a major city in that timezone so I can do the conversion? :)

New York City, Boston, Washington DC all are on Eastern Time.

Nota bene:
The U.S. switches to Daylight Saving Time this weekend.

If you're talking about the US Nats pressers, I thought Josh came across very nicely, IIRC. Being soft-spoken is part of his charm. He is intelligent and thoughtful, etc., etc. :)

(I did not see the Four Continents press conference ... don't know what, if anything, happened with Josh there.)

Thankyou. Bother, I'll be at work.

Bummer.
But if you have a question for Josh, you could send it in advance.
And the event will be archived for viewing later .

It was nationals, he came across as a total sweet heart yes, but also very young. And that is next to Jason Brown, who also is very youthful. He was certainly charming, but also seemed a bit shocked and confused by the attention and not entirely comfortable with it. I am hoping that his recent successes will help him give him the confidence to be more at ease and maybe actually enjoy the attention. He does not have to stop being being soft-spoken or thoughtful, I just want him to seem like someone soft-spoken and thoughtful who can also promote the sport comfortably. Right now, I think Josh is coming across better in print, I'd like to see more of that Josh on video.

And I think y'all could come up with some great question together.

Agree to disagree re Josh at the Nats pressers. His maturity is one of the qualities that most appeals to me, and he did not strike me as ill at ease.

I love Jason as well, but I would say that it is he, if anyone, whose external youthfulness overshadows his maturity at certain times.

(In the recent Figure Skaters Online article, Josh said that he welcomes the new level of attention that he has earned. :))

It could be that in on camera interviews Josh is still looking for the line between arrogance and confidence, as he said in his print interview. And of course very few people on this Earth are as outgoing as Jason, but I agree that Josh's "shy guy" persona can make him look younger, and perhaps his confidence will shine through in a one on one Google hangout.

p.s. as to stalkerish behavior, Jason has one follower who constantly asks for his number, his address, and professes undying love. Not necessarily in the way we do here for our favorite skaters. I don't know if that's the one. As much skating love as Josh gets, I don't see him attracting that kind of attention, but I could be wrong.

If we agreed too much it would be boring. ;) Glad that he is liking the attention - it should help.

I think that is a great theory on Josh. Also worth noting that he has said he did not expect to be top four, so he likely was genuinely caught off guard. I suspect he will have more of a chance to prep for this, and that might work well for him.

As for the phone number, I am going to chose to pretend it is someone he knows and it is a running joke. As for Josh. . . well if he keeps with the current sound track, he might attract women who want to "fix" what they see as a broken hurting object of obsession.

I regret to say that Max too is the target of an aggressive fanatic (in the worst sense of the word) whose behavior is quite disturbing from my distant vantage point.

I don't know whether anyone has crossed the line into creepiness in Josh's case. Sure hope not.

[ Josh's style clearly is different from Jason's, but Josh seems more than comfortable on camera, IMO.
And the most important thing to me is that Josh seems comfortable with who he is. :) ]

It sucks that the skaters have to deal with topics like "stalkers" to begin with. I had a mild case of this once, and it can really make you cautious and affect your everyday life. Poor Max, I hope that stalker is going to give it up. And I really hope there is no stalker problem for Jason, and that Josh won't have to deal with stuff like that (although on a shallow note, his looks alone are going to attract the wrong kind of fans too... and add to that how he's coming across as such a romantic. Oh boy).

On a brigther note: :yay: for the Google+ Hangout!
Soooooo... anyone planing to send in a question? I'd love to, but I'm never sure about what really to ask that they might not have been ask a million times already (or that's not maybe a little too stupid  )

I've already got a question!. :p

Max and Jason's stalkers are very similar, though slightly different: Max's stalker even asked if he'd take her on a date during Nationals . Jason's stalker has been a long-running thing; I gather Jason actually followed her on Twitter at first (as he used to do to fans sometimes), but that allowed her to DM him and she did. A LOT. And when he told her to back off, she seemed to flip out, and that's when the stuff like asking his number started.

I hope none of them are in any real danger from the stalkers, and I hope Josh doesn't pick up any creepy ones, though unfortunately, being as handsome and sweet as he is...yeah, sadly, I think it's probably inevitable.

This distinction is significant.
It was the accomplishment of winning the bronze that surprised Josh.
What did not surprise him (IMO) was that the bronze brought more attention to him. I do not think that he lacks media savvy -- although it will continue to grow -- and I do think he will (continue to ;)) be just fine handling both on-camera and print interviews.

I hope that USFS uses your question in the Google+ Hangout on Monday :).

On second thought, I think I have noticed at least one very persistent person sending Josh a series of obsessive tweets. One of the downsides of social media in general.

I share your hope that the stalker-types limit the worst of their egregious behavior to cyberspace.

Cross-posting from The Edge:

... very cool that Josh is featured in a non-skating magazine:

It's the Mar 2015 issue.
See pages 32-35 at the link within the tweet.
And page 3 has the Table of Contents listing of the article + a photo of Josh.

For the uninitiated (like me ;)):
According to its Twitter profile, Bleep magazine is "the internationally-read online creative culture magazine about people who are creating the future of art."

(Minor quibble: the article erroneously says that this year Josh was new to the podium "on the big stage" [meaning senior US Nats].) ...

So scary, I hope both if them will stay away these nasty people as far as possible.
