While attending the EGL Regionals, I noticed that most of the athletes obviously held their breath before going into a jump. Isn't this counter-productive? Even in simple exercises, we are instructed when to exhale and inhale. I know I watch my piano students carefully for this habit, because the temptation to not breathe is strong. When is this habit corrected, if a coach wished to correct it? I noticed this in gymnasts, also, while watching the broadcast of the world gymnastics championships today.

Some skaters don't show this habit at any point other than when they compete. My coach has a skater (Juvenile) who can skate her program 3X in a row in practice with no issues and no loss of speed (good stamina). When she competes, we call her The Puker because she invariably throws up either with 30 seconds left or as she's getting off the ice because she holds her breath through her competition program. No matter what our coach has tried, she still holds her breath when she competes, including choreographing breathing spots in her program!

that's amazing that she can do 3 runthroughs. I wish i could do one. She has to think of competeing just like practice. She is WAY overthinking it.
