She's done with figure skating, but she's doing something else most girls would trade arms and legs to do. So, no need to feel bitter.

Klimkin, AFAIR, also had a cantilever (ala Mr. Frick) into a jump. In fact, Klimkin was all kinds of awesome in general.

I noticed in one of Ito's vids that she did the spin created by Hamill, which you don't see much anymore if at all, Hamill's Camel. I thought Rachael had left the door open as to whether she was finished with skating or not.

Midori's done that 20+ years ago, with better speed in, better flow out, better height, better distance. Basically, everything better.

What does not mean that Ashley's jump is bad. It is great and worthy of +2. Midori's was better, so what? Basically, Midori's jumps surpass anyone's jumps thus we should stop watching other jumps and appreciate only Midori's ones? Wait, that would be terrible as I wouldn't be able to gaze at Carolina skating through the entire Olympic-size skate rink in order to set-up her triple lutz.

Coming back to Ashley, she had a very well choreographed program this season with plenty of transitions. Loop has spread eagle in and turn and body movement out. Adding to that the flow she has and not extraordinary but good height I would certainly give it +2.

Her flip has several turns on the approach and then a turn on the exit and nice, creative body-transitions. Usually skaters would just do a turn on the exit like Yu-Na or Joannie to secure the bullet for creative/difficult exit and Ashley bends her body and does moves hear head and arms. And the judges give +2 across the board.

I love this 2A by Mao. We've seen many times skaters using spread eagle as a difficult entry into the axel but who has done a fan spiral?

The exit is great too with both arms aloft and she gets wonderful height, distance and flow. +3 in my book but the judges didn't agree and gave +2 across the board.

I have never said that using a spread eagle as an entry is creative in 2013. It's been done for many years. However, the bullet is as follows (read carefully now): creative/difficult/unexpected entry. What Ashley did, was certainly a difficult entrance and therefore her jump should be given more GOE.

Exactly. I think Ashley had some great exits and entrances into her jumps, I agree, I like the exit off the flip as well. There's another one I really like, but I need to find it when I get a chance.

Kozuka's 3L entry off a spread eagle was especially impressive because he's riding the edge directly from the spread eagle (without a 3 turn or anything) which takes incredible control. Only one to ever do that as far as I know.

I'm really impressed with difficult entrances but don't like creative exits, because exits are less risky. If a landing is not quite right, the skater can just forego the creative exit. But with a difficult entry, there's basically no way around it.

I agree. But I really like to see a skater hold their landing b/c it shows that they are in complete control of the jump by holding that landing edge. Sometimes the quick check of the landing before a "creative exit" is an easy way to mask a less controlled jump. I think holding an edge for two counts should be +1. A skater who is in control of a jump could hold the edge for two counts and then do some kind of creative exit.

Michelle's beautiful spiral out of her double axels have always been my favorite transition--and Jeremy Abbott's exit out of his triple axel (i think it was in the 09-10 program) .
