Amanda Dobbs made the JGPF without one though. She and Kirsten Olsen probably could score in the 50s if they hadn't had rough skates.
A very impressive skate form Kristine Geng! She should easily have the highest PCS -- she skated with speed and polish, attention to choreography, and no rush at all. Great 2A (high and with flow), very good 3T-2T. Only a 2Z, but nice variation and quite strong. Best step sequence tonight. Very good spins, fast, centered, and some good positions. And a very impressive spiral sequence, perhaps the best COE spiral of the night. Overall, she skated with very good speed and confidence, and her triples were all very high and solid.

Please, do explain how DeeDee is out of shape. I thought her SP was the best of the night so far.

Are you talking about Gong? It was that she only had a double lutz. She scored the best of the girls who didn't do the triple.
Kristine looks a little stern in the K&C, but she shouldn't feel bad. She got scores very similar to ladies who did a 3Z (some of them very good ones) when she only did a 2Z. Depending on her FS layout compared to the others, as well as execution, she still has a very good chance to medal, maybe even win the competition. I thought she skated with the most maturity and best skating skills of the whole night.
Amanda Dobbs and Marisa Secundy are really low down. Even though Amanda did relatively well on the JGPs this year, I kinda always felt like her jumps weren't that stable, and she doesn't have the harder triples. Sooner or later, that lack of triples will catch up with her. If you only have the easier triples, then if you skate your best, and another with harder triples has a bad night (falls or downgrades, as in Alexe Gilles in some of her programs), then you can win a competition. But all the stars have to align. If everyone skates their best, then obviously the ones with harder triples will eventually prevail.
Katrina Hacker is another that comes to mind. She had a good skate at last year's National's, when the top skaters were too young to go to World's, and the veterans were all having a bad time (Kimmie, Bebe, Alissa). But her relative lack of technical content, as well as skating skills, were apparent on the GP circuit this year.

Thanks. My feed kept freezing with no sound, so I could not really tell if she did a double or a triple lutz.. I thought she did the triple and figured she would go into first.

I agree that the lutz should not be required. most junior ladies do not have a consistent triple lutz. This gives the girls who can al least roatate them a clear advantage.

My favorites out of tonight were Kawamura and Gong. Sad to see Alba do so poorly
I don't think requiring the lutz is unfair. It's a challenge. Besides, it changes every year. The required jump was the loop last year, before that it was the flip.
Yup, it's not unfair at all. It's not anymore unfair than requiring a double axel in junior and above. Heck, I'd argue that if anything is unfair it's the requirement of a layback (every year) for ladies because it is nearly impossible to achieve a level 4 without a beillman. Short programs are about comparing the basics -- they're like the compulsory dance of freestyle. The point of having a set jump out of footwork in junior is to encourage them to learn the basics, and all of the jumps.
I agree. I actually wish that they'd require a jump in the senior SP as well! I'd really like to see that.

I skate from time to time with DeeDee and she is in NO WAY out of shape. She's actually getting muscular (especially in her upper legs) and can really move across the ice and SPRING in her jumps. Out of shape my ----

She has matured but her interview very upsetting she has been coached by alexander ouriashev for years, and learned all her jumps from him, up to two weeks ago she made coaching change to maria, and she has the odessity to credit her for her jumping and spinning ability this is a joke if you watch you tube of dee dee in detroit she was landing triple triple combinations, and landing quad sal with alexander ouriashev!!!! What kind of coach would take credit for this!!

So sad for Amanda Dobbs. She really is the best skater in the group, but like all Elegant Skaters, they get buried in the rush of the bravuras and 3x3s.
