Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

This wouldn't be fair if she was allowed to compete, there would be a cloud over everything in the women's competition and women skaters who have been squeaky clean would suffer. Sigh. What a farce. You would think even though someone is a minor, just the fact that this person may not even have a heart condition and is generally aware that their country is in a doping ban, wouldn't they want to be clean as possible? If a coach or training staff forced her to take the medication, they should be banned from the sport forever. Edited to add: But I can admit that she might just trust her training team without question though, given the background of ladies' skating in Russia and her age.

Oh, come on, it's only a few micrograms at the time of the test. Every drug, every substance of any kind put into anyone's body is subject to pharmacokinetics, and it would be more than a few micrograms before it was processed by the body.
Fine. What dosage of this drug makes you jump quads?

Again, this drug doesn’t improve jumping.

Can just as easily be a tainted supplement.
That’s why people are innocent until proven guilty. The court case is upcoming.

It's weird that RUSADA lifted the provisional suspension so quickly. They can't have done much investigative work to determine mitigating circumstances or whether there's some other reason Valieva tested positive that wouldn't require a suspension (e.g., maybe it was a false positive; maybe she had an exemption that allowed her to take medication that contained the banned substance; etc.). Does anyone think RUSADA did anything legitimate other than undo the suspension because Valieva is an Olympic favorite days from her event, and disqualifying her would bring shame on the country? The whole situation seems shady.
Likely RUSADA is getting intense internal pressure from within Russia. I agree with some of the sentiments here, that RUSADA shouldn't have the final word on whether an athlete under its jurisdiction can compete in an international competition.

This thread is turning kind of ugly...
Was inevitable when posters are OPENLY advocating for the punishment of whistleblowers (one can only imagine what that would entail) as well as allowing all drugs with no restrictions for all athletes.... with no plan on how to stop governments or federations from literally killing their athletes in the search for gold.

The IOC IS respecting the rules by appealing to the CAS. Which is exactly what they are doing.

And yes you are toxic. You are openly advocating for the "punishment" of whistleblowers which is a group protected by law in every civilized nation.
And Russia applied its rules by lifting the suspension.

Leaking a medical test has nothing to do with whistleblowing. It’s a leak of personal information. Big difference.

Why do you keep pretending that any of this is relevant?

It doesn't matter how much or how little the drug does. They broke the rules they agreed to.

That isn't how testing works.

A negative test now does not erase or supersede a prior positive one.
And neither a negative doping test makes you remove a medal, if the tests of the team event are clean, IOC has no argument to remove the gold medal... It is not Russia's fault that is delayed 6 weeks in saying that Valieva I could not compete in Beijing...

Well, i personally hope this will resolve favorably to Kami and she will skate in women's event.

Also some comments in this thread about "girls who can only jump because of doping" really forcing me into questioning brain capabilities of people writing such comments.

How in the world can the WADA default to IOC, and in turn IOC default to RUSADA to lift a suspension on an athlete?!?! There’s a damn reason why they aren’t competing under the Russian flag for the past few Olympics. We’re supposed to trust the anti-doping agency of a country which ran a state sponsored doping scheme? MAKE THIS MAKE SENSE?!?!

It would entail sacking them from their job. You assumed the worst. And a leaker of medical record isn’t a whistleblower. It’s not the same.

I am also assuming that you wouldn’t like it if your kids had their medical records leaked.

And not once did I call you any names. Your hatred of Eteri or whatever your issue is with them, not me.

The drug in question, trimetazidine, is an anti-ischemic metabolic modulator that has the ability to increase blood flow efficiency and improve endurance. This means that the person who takes it can last longer in practice sessions which improves overall performance. In the context of skating, it would give more time for skaters to practice high-C elements like triple axels and quads. This is why this substance is banned by WADA. Chinese swimmer Sun Yang and Russian bobsledder Nadezhada Sergeeva have faced punishments in the past for testing positive for trimetazidine.
