Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

Congress? Lol, are you American? Congress doesn't care about Eteri or any of this. If I were Eteri, I'd be packing my Louis Vuitton bags and getting the heck out of Russia though. They're looking for a scapegoat, and Eteri is a frontrunner. Now they can finally get rid of the irritating lady who's had their women's skating program by the balls for years.

the media is probably trotting that out to pressure the necessary parties to DQ team Russia and make Team USA the gold medalists

Your advice is suitable for criminals trying to stay off public radar, not for the most regarded and beloved coach in figure skating.
You're talking about her criminal court tactics, I'm talking about her relations with public opinion and fans.

She owes explanation to all the people who respect and adore her (like myself).
I think she owes much more to Kamilla. That's why Kamilla interests shall take precedence over yours.

Exclusive: U.S. could prosecute Russians in Valieva doping case, USADA chief says

The RADA bill was signed into U.S. law in 2020 and empowers American prosecutors to seek fines of up to $1 million and jail terms of up to 10 years, even for non-Americans, if actions have affected American athletes’ results.
Not to mention that US also has a loooong list of athletes using peroformance-enhancing drugs (from Lance Amstrong to Marion Jones, etc...) whose actions probably affected Russian/Soviet athletes' results

Well, the US can try to prosecute a non-US citizen if they want but it likely won't work... though I think they know that. What it really does is assert pressure. Basically, the US government is signalling that they're following this story closely, protecting its athletes (even if it's just a show of force), and putting pressure on the Court of Arbitration of Sport to make a judgment swiftly and in its favor of course.

I suppose if they do follow through with this sort of prosecution, it may lead to several members on the Eteri team not being able to enter the US for fear of being detained or arrested (EDIT: which also signals to the ISU that they will make things very unpleasant for them).

The one silver lining in this is that it is looking very much like the blame will be placed on Team Tutberidze and not on Kamila.
There is a hashtag "shameTutberidze" trending on Russian twitter and over all social media platforms fans and people who have no clue about skating are lamenting Valieva and protecting her. Thank god.

Although I actually think this should go higher than Eteri. I am certain this is Federation or even State run. At the very least it is endorsed. Just look at 2014 and the big scandal that was unveiled there regarding doping in Russia. But of course the people on the really high echelons never go down. In this case Krustalny will take the hit.
But at the end of the day the thing that matters most is Kamila and that her professional life has been ruined. Even if somehow Russia can win this case and she competes, god knows if she could deliver after all this and her medal would be indefinitely disputed and discredited.
Even if she keeps skating for 10 more years, in year 9 she'll still always be remembered as the Wunderkind that achieved thanks to doping and caused a huge scandal at the Olympics. It's heartbreaking.

Sorry, but if her positivity will be confirmed you can't simply give her a warning and let her compete! She would have an advantage over the other girls and that is not fair! Even if she's a minor and she wasn't aware! I'm sorry because in this case she will pay for her coaches but the other athletes cannot suffer the consequences of the actions of others. Not to mention that this would lead to emulations.

The fact that there are people okay with letting her compete is disappointing and makes me lose faith in mankind.
Hardly anyone is dragging Valieva for this, and if they are, they are WRONG. However, people who are saying "full acquittal" or just a warning because she's 15 and "doesn't know better" are wrong, too. Unfortunately, she's collateral damage in this situation (either way) because someone was looking for a cheat. If nothing other than a warning comes of this, then you can bet that there will be full scale doping of athletes under 16 for those "win at all costs" trainers in all sports.
I agree. My problem is, I'd rather see pictures of the Doctor and the Coach who sent her to this doctor for these injections pictured when this scandal comes up in the press. At least in the US, when the papers and news stations mention this "Scandal" it is Kamila's picture that they show. Not a single picture of Eteri, her parents, or the doctor. Just this poor young girl with weight of the world on her shoulders. So sad.

Nobody would get away with it
Why? Why such bitterness?

Are you really not at all interested in how the positive test turned out? In my opinion, there is a huge difference between systematic use and accidental one-time, minor contamination. The first should be punished, the second should be forgiven (as far as I know such cases happen regularly). It's called an investigation.

Don't you want an investigation? Do you want a hammer blow? "I don't care about the true essence of things, I want her to be crushed!", right? Why?

Eteri and her cronies are not the ones that are skating. Most of those skaters have worked their whole life to get to this point in their skating careers and under their own steam. not with help of a drug…..s
Disclaimer, innocent until proven guilty..

The only comparison point I have for a minor with a suspected drug test is Andreea Raducan, a Romanian gymnast at the 2000 Olympics. She was 16. Long story short, she was given a cold pill with pseudoephedrine, and was stripped of her AA gold medal, but kept her team (previous competition) and other individual medal (post positive test). She competed in an additional event final after her team was notified of her positive drug test, but she did not medal there. The team doctor was suspended for I believe 2 Olympic cycles and her coaches were not, neither was she.
I still remember this, so sad.

Thanks for the summation

I do wonder why it keeps being stressed out that "a minor cannot be accused of violating anti-doping rules"

Is that a way of saying that they can't accuse anyone so this'll end up being ignored,
or are they currently trying to figure out who they're gonna be accusing instead?
Because even if it was the minor's idea (and I do not think it was, and indeed, I would not be surprised if she didn't even know it had been given to her, if in fact the positive test does not turn out to be erroneous), the proper response from the adults in charge of her would be "No."

You can take yourself out of the testing pool if you retire. I think some Russian athletes don't do it so they can receive funds but I'm not sure about that. I personally think that's dangerous and should be discouraged.

Unless it's a fashion or cosmetics brand, company sponsorship contracts are often tied to being an 'active athlete'. In other sports, you will sometimes see women doing some pretty token amounts racing while pregnant in order to meet a sponsorship's competition requirements for a calendar year. (Which as long as a pregnancy is being carefully monitored by a doctor, regular exercise during that time is good for both mother and baby)
