Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

Why? Why such bitterness?

Are you really not at all interested in how the positive test turned out? In my opinion, there is a huge difference between systematic use and accidental one-time, minor contamination. The first should be punished, the second should be forgiven (as far as I know such cases happen regularly). It's called an investigation.

Don't you want an investigation? Do you want a hammer blow? "I don't care about the true essence of things, I want her to be crushed!", right? Why?
I certainly want to know. Look at Barry Bond's and Mark McGwire ( American Baseball Stars ) they went through their careers winning award after award only to be found out at the end that had been cheating the entire time. The sooner they get a handle on this situation, the better. Think of all the broken dreams that were crushed by Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire. I'm sure that more than one pitcher lost their job after these men hit Homeruns in a tight game. Shameful.

As to Eteri's possible dual citizenship, I do not know, but her daughter, Diana Davis, was born in Las Vegas, and so certainly has both Russian and American citizenship.
didn't eteri marry an American and got divorced hence Diana davis last name ?

I really don't understand this. Can't the IOC suspend an athlete? Is the decision to disqualify an athlete up to the IOC? Surely it isn't up to the Federation?
The positive sample was from Russian Nationals, therefore RUSADA has jurisdiction, issued a suspension when they learned about the positive result and one day later lifted it. WADA, IOC, and ISU have the right to appeal against that lifting of the suspension.
There was no positive sample at the Olympics, where IOC would have direct jurisdiction.

Are you sure? What I have understood, but I may be wrong: a minor is a "protected person", therefore
his/her name does not need to be made public
the sentence is limited to a 2 year ban and may be reduced to a reprimand [not sure it's true but that's what I read everywhere]
I'm pretty sure that what it means is that the child's team can be accused of it and found to be guilty, that is, the child's coaches, doctors, etc, but the child can only suffer consequences for it, like...they can be guilty of it and disciplined for it, but not be culpable of it, that is, not at fault for it, and if they can't be at fault, they can't be accused. They can be suspended, banned, etc, but they can't be considered responsible for it, so they can't be accused of it.

I think so, but I do not know . Diana's middle name is Sergeevna , but Sergei Davis is a very unlikely American name.
Her father's name is not otherwise listed on her biography. And Eteri's bio is silent on the subject.

This whole thing is just so sad and I really feel bad for Kamila. I just don't get why they didn't protect her identity more.

Unfortunately only minors under 16 identities are protected, as Valieva is the only under 16, the omission was an admission. I think that's why they were initially so vague, but how fair would it be to the other athletes to be under suspicion, initially when details came out about a failed test everyone i saw immediately jumped on Nikita katsalapov taking painkillers or weed for his back.

I'm sorry Valieva is going through this during the event that always has the most press attention, but protecting/taking care of her shouldn't be at the expense of other athletes.

Interesting almost movie-like scene with fascinating body language and social interaction from the end of their later practice on the practice rink.

Who was that talking to Shcherbakova? The one who grabbed her arm

The only comparison point I have for a minor with a suspected drug test is Andreea Raducan, a Romanian gymnast at the 2000 Olympics. She was 16. Long story short, she was given a cold pill with pseudoephedrine, and was stripped of her AA gold medal, but kept her team (previous competition) and other individual medal (post positive test). She competed in an additional event final after her team was notified of her positive drug test, but she did not medal there. The team doctor was suspended for I believe 2 Olympic cycles and her coaches were not, neither was she.
That's weird. Why strip her from individual AA but not the other individual medal or the team one?

My main concern now is for KV.

She must be under tremendous emotional turmoil and strain for something she is a victim of in my opinion.

Are her parents there in Beijing to help her emotionally deal with this controversy the best way possible? She is a minor at 15 some even consider her still a child. I would think she needs her parents whether she gets into the ladies competition or not.

We've learned a lot in recent years about the massive emotional strain female athletes are under last year at the summer Olympics with Simone Biles there was a lot of empathy for her position. I agreed with that. It's a new world and we all have to adjust to the mental struggles of even the most successful people. I am concerned for this girl that she does not have the proper counseling or love in place.

I don't understand why they haven't made a decision already one way or the other. She's 15 don't let her twist in the wind even if there are a lot of angles to this failed drug test that needs to be reviewed by the authorities. Either let her skate in the ladies event or send her home. But don't let her practice every day thinking she's going to skate in the ladies competition because when they pull the rug from out under her feet it's going to only do more emotional damage to this 15 year old girl.

even Brennan is salivating of team usa gold. In reality it will take months to be have clear award of the team event as appeal and results of ruling will be considered , she said if Kamila doesn't compete in individuals usa will get team gold. lol. Also the us media wouldn't have made a fuzz if this was individuals, Kamilas identity would also be more protected. No us female us in ogm contender and below valieva are two Russians eying ogm. So no mo motive for huge scrutiny. It's all because Kamila skated in TEAM EVENT..PERIOD.
