Kanako Murakami

Sweet Kana retired  The whole generation of Japanese Ladies is now gone from competetive skating... You will be missed!

Kanako skating was always a highlight of any competition for me. Her smiles lit up the entire arena and made the world a better place. Hopefully she'll have a terrific continued skating career and will bring many more joy to people's hearts!

Don't get the wrong idea, but well, it's about time anyway (watching her this season - was rather frustrating for me, having lost her competitive fire -). But I do like her smiles though and watching the finale at the gala, perhaps I will miss it some time (though it annoyed me a lot this season ). However I will fondly think of her POTO SP, as one of my favorite programs.

She'll pursue an acting career? Good for her and she looks gorgeous in that photo. :hap10: Good luck to her future endeavors. :ghug:

I'm sad that she didn't get on the podium at Worlds once, though. 2013 was my favourite Kanako season and her best chance. Akiko at least had a bronze medal at Worlds, I think Kanako deserved one too...She was often extremely close to the podium.

I did not watch the Gala but just read the Gala thread and heard the news about Kanako's retirement. She was truly an inspiration, never gave up
and always had a smile no matter the circumstance. Wishing sweet Kanako happiness and fulfillment no matter which road she takes
in the future!

She skated to Prayer for Taylor, her SP from 2012/2013 season. It was beautiful. *tearsupagain* Very, very good choice, as this is the program I'll always remember her for.

Thanks Maikatze! I love that program! Anxiously awaiting the videos!

I knew this would come eventually. :sad21: She will be greatly missed.

Thanks, Kanako for your works in figure skating. I wish you all the best in the second chapter of your life.

Both her SP and LP for the 2012/2013 seasons were sublime and she delivered at the biggest stage of the world in London, Canada. I haven't seen anyone other female skaters skating to tango better than her.

I've just heard of Hyoen. The Japanese are really not messing around when they make an ice show. Top notch production :jaw:. She'll play the Shinto goddess Ame no Uzume and you can read more about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ame-no-Uzume-no-Mikoto

The anchor said that will be her last dance as a competitive skater and the crowd went like :sad21: She did her trademark 3S-2LO-2LO (a little two footed on the second loop) and a perfect 2A. She changed the choreo a bit as well. I like the moment when she kneel on the ice and pray.

Check out those photos of leading skaters in this show. They are just gorgeous! Glad to see Dai, Nobu, Shizuka, Akiko, Mai, and Kanako team up in such an event. [[link expired]]

Surprised that she did the retirement announcement here, but what a great send off. Especially liked the huge hug from Jason Brown at 8:40 in the You Tube skatefan22 posted...Thank you sweet Kanako.
