Hi guys, here's a report about the Gensan Summer Cup, including a short interview with Kazuki: http://yumiyo.myjournal.jp/archives/20578985.html

It works with Google Translate, but I won't post it here in case Tsurara wants to translate it ;)

One thing that I got from the interview (please correct me if I'm wrong, Tsurara), is that he says he's still learning to control his jumps, now that he's stronger and has more power? He does look buff in the picture!

Also, Atom_Doshisha published a couple of new Gensan Summer pics on insta: https://www.instagram.com/p/B1YrLTBBn84/
Poor thing, he looked like he was dying by the end!

PS- Where is everyone else in this thread? :sad21:

I know I'm VERY late (this is judo week for me), but one of the articles after Gensan Summer Cup

友野3連覇も内容不満「冗談抜きで15パーセント」
Tomono 3-peat, but unsatisfied "15%, no joke"
https://hochi.news/articles/20190812-OHT1T50132.html

◆Figure skating Gensan Summer Cup, Final Day (August 12, Shiga Ice Arena)

Kazuki Tomono(21), Doshisha University, scored 152.92 points in Free, and got the third straight victory with the total score of 226.25 in Men's Single. "I'm not satisfied content-wise, but the result itself was a win and I made a good start," he looked back at his first competition this season. Receiving the victory prize, 1 kg of Omi Beef, "My family is waiting, prepared with a sukiyaki-set at home, and I'm glad that I can take it back home," he beamed a smile.

He took on the competition with 2 kinds of quads, 4T which he started having in his program from this season, and 4S. The first 4T-3T combo got 2.61 GOE, and the following 4S was also successful. In the second half, a planned combination jump became a single jump and he said, "I somehow got through with enough concentration this time around, but the lack of stamina. I can't face this season like this," without forgetting to reflect on himself.

His steps and spins were all level 2 (4 at highest) and regarding the perfection level of his current programs he said, "About 15 %, with no joke. The biggest problem is that I can barely keep up with the programs. I'm in no shape to take part in international competitions (yet)." He is going to build up his stamina while brushing up his programs.

"What I couldn't accomplish last season: taking part in the GPF, the World, and getting a big medal. That's what I'm aiming for. I'm not up to it yet, but I want to do my best to get closer to it." His first international game is Lombardia Trophy in September. As for GP series, he's participating in Skate America and Russian Cup.

He's in the U.S.! I remember during PIW he told a fan he would go back to the U.S. in late summer to do some more work with Mills-sensei, and it seems it's true!
https://twitter.com/KiraraChin/status/1164404624582950913
Yeah, both Misha and Mills sensei always say skaters should go back to the choreographer(s) often to check the program and everything, and Tomono-kun would/should never miss such opportunities!!!

That actually reminded me, as I rewatched the interview video of Mills-sensei (the one I recommended to AQFS in my previous post), he was using "compliant" for "sunao/素直" (the one I said accepting and amenable) to describe his ex-students. Not sure what's the best term to describe it in English, but it sounds close enough to me - unless it sounds negative in English. (Being 'sunao' is a virtue.) I also hope Mills sensei don't tell Tomono-kun to stay away from SNS like he said he did to Machida kun...lol

Have you noticed that he's been wearing the SEV neck during his performances too?
I really don't want to give it too much credit because, maybe it's just me, but it feels like discrediting his own hard work and efforts a bit, but I sure hope it's helping him a lot, especially mentally (and actually great if it's also helping him physically to maximize his performance as it advertises - I feel conflicted :rolleye:).

Wait, is the ramen lover eating sushi?! Looks like he's having a good time with Camden and Tomoki!
https://twitter.com/CamdenPulk/status/1165841623248334848?s=19
I'm super-curious how their conversation went with Tomono-kun's Osaka dialect, Tomoki's Kansai dialect and American English for Camden...it sounds like a huge mess but super-fun!

Also, he's working hard with Misha! Look at this gorgeous 3A3T from Misha's IG story: https://twitter.com/KiraraChin/status/1165869149807140864
Check out Kazuki's gorgeous 4T3T from Misha's IG! https://www.instagram.com/p/B1sgGnAHKDL/
The ice coverage of his 4T is looking soooo good

There's also a story from Misha of them working with Misha's dad, Jun Ge!
I can't thank Misha enough for uploading all those (and you too to always make sure we don't miss any)!!!!!
It's so great! :yahoo: (So, is that Jun Ge that's supporting him in the story vid?)

You got it right, KiraraChin!

I really can't see where this blog stands... I mean, the blog site itself looks kinda bit unprofessional to me, but it clearly states and warns that it has an alliance/partnership with an English site, with a warning that some of their articles may get translated into English there. They are not like those articles I translate for fun that would never get officially translated, so I'd like to stay away from them in case they actually do translate them in the future. I'm glad to hear that the auto translate helps well enough to read it. If it doesn't, then let me know to share it by pm (awww, reminded me of another thing I had totally forgotten!!!:drama:).

Let me just share one of what he said in that interview that looks too hard for Mr. Google to translate. Usually, before international competitions, he gets to practice more (priority given at the rink for practice) but everyone needs to practice for domestic competitions and they all share it fairly, so he hadn't had enough run-throughs as he wanted yet. He said he's going to practice a lot more doing run-throughs to prepare for Lombardia and get used to his new programs. I hope he's had as many run-throughs as he wanted in California!

By the way, have you all seen Tomono-kun's retweet on Yuma's K&C with Misao sensei at JGP Courchevel? It really shows how 'otoko-mae' Misao sensei is, while Yuma is more femininely surprised at his score lol I'm sure Tomono-kun was very pleased to see Yuma's result and had fun with their reactions at K&C

Yukako Sugita (her maiden name Ogino) is an ex-skater from Nagoya area (related to Ogino sensei of Howa?), and I believe she is one of the young coaches Ohnishi sensei (Rinkai's head coach and Hiraike sensei's sensei) invited to coach at Rinkai (or Kansai area) a decade or two ago. It's just me remembering her name as a choreographer, but she works both as coach and choreographer, I think. If what I've read before is correct, at the rink where Tomono-kun trains, they do team-coaching but no specific roles assigned like TCC. I think Akio once said that every coach there instructs everyone everything and so did he.

Ok! Now it's clear! Thank you once again Tsurara for your precious information!

LOL I was on holiday so it took me some time to catch up with the news! Thank for keeping this thread updated!!!
Anyway I have continued to check Kazuki and Misha's instagram profiles and I have to say I'm impressed by the progress our boy made (that 4T3T was simply wonderful)!!!! It makes me think positive for the seasons to come!!!!

PS. Sorry, I'm still not able to quote properly

Thank you so much for this, Tsurara! :luv17:
As usual, he's very strict with himself... Also, if 'a planned combination in the second half became a single jump', that means he's doing the 3A-eu-3S in the second half! Mystery solved!

Have you noticed that he's been wearing the SEV neck during his performances too?
Yes, I have! I think he's definitely benefiting from two very nice sponsors - Central Sports is helping him with physical training, and SEV as well with the sports devices. I'm not sure how the science behind SEV works, but even if it's a placebo effect, it seems to be positive so far! Besides, SEV is always happy to promote him on social media and on their stores, which is great!

I'm super-curious how their conversation went with Tomono-kun's Osaka dialect, Tomoki's Kansai dialect and American English for Camden...it sounds like a huge mess but super-fun!
LOL I didn't know Tomoki speaks Kansai dialect (isn't he American?), but I would assume they were talking in English! I think Kazuki's conversational English is probably very good, if he feels confident in hanging out with the American boys!

Thank you, Tsurara! No need to translate this one and send via PM, since it works OK with Google ;)
Wow, so he did that well even though he didn't get to do many run-throughs? Amazing!

He's back in Japan! Already enjoying a 'vegetable salad' :laugh2:
https://www.instagram.com/p/B1uaO3oHO3a/
Ha ha, actually, his comment there says: I miss the 'vegetable salad'
and the tags: #when the competition is over, #wanna eat it, #I'm sure/I hope (it's), #zero calorie

And for those who don't know what this 'vegetable salad' is like, here is a video of a youtuber eating it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAP9q9nu6B0
(Warning: It's a hardcore food porn, it may make you feel sick. Don't watch it if you're on a strict diet. Veges in the video are beansprouts and cabbage...until her chopsticks reach noodles underneath.)

Btw, one of the reply comments there is from SEV, saying their ramen loving staff is going to take him to their recommended ramen shop when he's in Tokyo.

As for Tomoki, I think his parents are from Kobe. And yes, his Japanese sounds like nothing but native Kansai

Thanks, Tsurara! LOL So he was actually not eating the ramen, just pining for it?
So it's possible he's not yet in Japan...

SEV's comment is so cute! Also, I knew Tomoki had Japanese ancestry, but didn't know that he's fluent in Japanese, wow! In any case, it's likely that the boys talked in English because of Camden ;)

Did you guys see, Misha posted the beginning of Moulin Rouge on his instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/B1xWLvoHcbq/
So gorgeous! I don't know if it's me, but Kazuki's flow and speed across the ice look better and better.

There's also another report from that blog/page from the Gensan Summer Cup, this time about the FS: http://yumiyo.myjournal.jp/archives/20677876.html
Again, it includes a short interview with Kazuki, and you can read it with Google Translate ;)

Finally, it seems yesterday was Hiraike-sensei's birthday! A fan made a compilation of cute pics of him and Kazuki: https://twitter.com/main120312031/status/1167109343797362689

:hb::hb::hb:Happy birthday Hiraike sensei!!!!! :hb::hb::hb:

Glad to see that also Hiraike sensei has so many fans now :)
According to Wikipedia, http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%B9%B3%E6%B1%A0%E5%A4%A7%E4%BA%BA, his birthday is today!
He's turning 41 years old but he looks younger!!!

Oh thanks, Giu! I got confused by the timezone, since when the fan posted it was still 29 Aug for me ;) I hope Hiraike-sensei had a good celebration, he definitely looks younger!

Did you guys see Kazuki's latest instastory? I'm not 100% sure but it seems he was congratulating Shun Sato/the juniors: https://imgur.com/a/LmLcFhn

Also, check out this hilarious fanart! https://twitter.com/nozomi500k4/status/1167495696192135169?s=19 Perfectly captures Kazuki's mood this week :laugh2:

Did you guys see Kazuki's convo with Yuhana Yokoi on Twitter? If I understood it right, he was trying to name her NHK presentation video?

NHK is showing short video messages by the Japanese skaters appearing at NHK Trophy, one by one.
Yuhana's original tweet on her segment:
"I did that because (someone) said everyone was doing something funny (to make people laugh) but as it turned out, all the others were doing serious ones!!! I reckon I've been betrayed!!!
Anyways, I'll try my best!"

Tomono-kun:
"You're the best, Master!"

Yuhana:
"Don't call (me/someone) Master for such a trifle."

Tomono-kun:
"Party Squad"

Yuhana:
"(That's) a valid naming"

Hahaha thanks, Tsurara! I really love his interactions with his team Japan friends on Twitter, they are so funny!

BTW, yesterday there was a Gensan Summer Cup TV broadcast, here's the bit with Kazuki: https://twitter.com/Mabt_3a4t/status/1170207655605878784
I love his smile receiving the prime beef prize, also poor Sota looked so jealous, that was funny

Also, Kazuki and Takahito Kozuka visited this restaurant: https://twitter.com/ushikoi/status/1170173118427496448
It says it was the 'Shinjuku' branch, so he was in Tokyo?

From the looks of their hairstyles, I'd say the photo was taken a while ago, maybe when they did PIW?

Kozuka-kun recently had a hair-cut and now he looks like this,

Definitely not in the last few days, says Detective Tsurara.

Gensan's video:
I see a fan (I mean, air fan, not people fan) is blowing his hair, it must have been super-hot there both on the podium and the rink.
Maybe the ice condition wasn't good enough for 3As either, packed with so many heated fans melting the ice! (Just reminded me what was said to have happened at Saitama Worlds.)
Why am I feeling like deja-vu with this interview...?!
