Kazuki Tomono

 Really? I thought it'd be quite interesting, but Moulin Rouge has so many numbers and neither Misha nor Tomono-kun said which one yet, correct? It could be Zidler's Can-Can part! I just hope it won't be Your Song. (Unlikely, looking at the posted video, though!)

That said, when I first saw passion, moulin rouge and the short video posted, what came to my mind was also the tango Roxanne, SP performed by his senpai, 2 Daisukes (both Takahashi and Murakami) in the past, and I thought it would be interesting how Tomono-kun/Misha interprets it differently, and imagined it with Nature Boy to make it longer. (but would it be another warhorse?) As Misha said in the interview, he's exploring new stuff and not stay with something he feels too secure or comfortable with, yet. (I'll take my word back if the music choice is actually Zidler's, or Spectacular part, or even Like a Virgin to prove himself to be Naniwa's entertainer.)

Oh well, anyways, I'm not here to convince you or anything. I just wanted to say I'm looking forward to it either way.
I hope his short program will be something you all like :)

Chin up, guys! At least it's not Carmen

Seriously now, I'm actually quite intrigued by it. It seems to me quite an "adult" piece for Kazuki and, although warhorse, completely different from anything he's done before.

I actually liked the little snippet from earlier and his sassy pose on the pic, so let's see...

Haha, don't really know which is worse

You know I am always excited seeing Kazuki trying new styles and all but I kind of wanted him to have a more original piece of music for his program specially the FP this season. Here is to hope they surprise me with the music cut and choreo and him making this program his own (please no over dramatic facial expressions)

I guess I need to try to listen more to the OST and get used to it before the next season because as much as I love Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir and how good they are, it was hard for me to watch their "Moulin Rouge" more than 2 times so maybe the music is just not my taste.

Yeah, I am so afraid of this too. I am sure Kazuki has a word in the final choice which makes me want to see what he wants to show and if he will succeed in that and I don't want to judge early before seeing the program and his performance but like you I am sadly not as excited as I wanted to be when I hear about his next seasons programs.

Now, I really pray he won't reuse his SP and have a new one more of his fun style and hopefully choreographed by Misao Sato.

Good to hear I am not the only one. I think they are aware Kazuki is tiny and cute-looking and wanted to show a manly side of him, but that IMO can be also done using other styles than MR. I think a more pensive tango like Adios Nonino would have been a better choice, while also mature. 'Seductive/romantic/passionate' is one thing I just cannot associate Kazuki with at the moment, but that's just exactly what MR music evokes. Which is why I preferred his LP this season to his SP.
I vote for some lively Michael Jackson as a new SP. Kazuki would totally live and rock it and absolutely engange the audience, he has that innate ability to make the spectators go crazy, unlike a number of other male skaters. They should play to that strength of his.

hehe, same here
Hey, guys, we all like Kazuki here so it's all cool :) Me and AQFS have some reservations about the new LP choice, but that doesn't mean we like him any less ^ ^
@ AQFS - at least with 'Your Song' I'd look forwward to a Kazuki-Tatsuya comparison. Who's more mature :dev3:

You surely not alone ;)

I actually was thinking about how he would perform to a spanish or tango music since last season (while I listened to Firedance and saw other skaters programs) but yeah not a fan of MR as one for that. But again may be they will surprise us with the music cut and like Tsurara said, they didn't point out exactly what songs although the pose and clip suggest it would include "Roxanne".

Not MJ fan either but I get your point :) I want him to try new things and show new sides of him but at the same time develop and keep his own style. So maybe they can try to balance again his programs this season and give us his fun and youthful side in the EX and SP.

It's all cool and good. Instead of getting disappointed, you'll only have a nice surprise or "as I thought/I told you" moment. So, it might be better and easier.
(As I loved the original Police song, tbh, I used to hate the movie version of Roxanne before and I still prefer an instrumental version.)

What I remember the most about 2 Daisuke's Roxanne was their 'passionate' step sequences that heated up the audience, which gave me a good impression in the past, and that's something I'm most looking forward to from his performance too, like how he attracted people by his Riverdance steps. Now it's almost scaring me what I'd feel and say IF (big if) I don't like his version.

I think having reservations about music choice, whatever it is, it's a completely valid and understandable reaction. If you go back on this thread, I had my reservations about Riverdance because I thought there would be comparisons with Jason Brown's iconic programme. Thankfully, the music cuts and choreo were completely different so we dodged that bullet ;)

I mean, I do have reservations about Moulin Rouge and it wouldn't be my choice if I had to pick music for Kazuki (I would probably go the upbeat pop music route Surimi mentioned before).

But then again, it depends a lot on the music cuts, the choreo and Kazuki's own interpretation. Misha said they picked this music thinking of Kazuki's overall development and I absolutely believe he will do his best to give Kazuki a great choreo. I also believe Kazuki is a very gifted performer and might show us a completely different side of him...

So I'm willing to give this the benefit of the doubt! Judging by the timeline, I believe he will probably debut it at DOI...

I really want him to be the one to make me love this OST actually (if he will be using the original versions). I am biased so I know I will still love him and see the positive in it regardless of how it turns out  but what matters is that I want him to sell it to judges and everyone else. I am rooting for him to do that :luv17:

As you mentioned before it seems he is working on the FP earlier this year compared to last year so yeah, I also hope he debut it as early as possible and be able to feel more comfortable with it before the competitions.

Since I’ve only been following FS for a little over a year and didn’t have time to delve into other disciplines much, I don’t dread warhorses as much. But the image I have of MR in general did make me wonder if it’s a good fit. I’m looking forward to see what they would do. If Kazuki could pull it off, it’ll be an achievement unlocked which I think is what they are aiming for. I hope things go well and the judges like it.

(But I actually loved Kolyada's Carmen this season.)
I was going to write the exact same thing 😂

^ lol! Well, at least MR isn't as fast as some parts of Riverdance, so Kazuki won't have to end his program as short of breath as with Riverdance.

hmm, the climax part of Roxanne itself isn't as high paced, but I'm actually imagining the choreo to be as exhausting as Riverdance sequences could get or possibly even more, but ofc it really depends on music cuts and choreo. But then, I can't say I'm familiar enough with Misha's works. So maybe you're right.

Out of curiosity, when it comes to Tango de Roxanne, whose performance(s) do you all generally have in mind, other than Virtue/Moir? (because two skaters' performance is a completely different thing) Plushenko? Yu-na Kim? Lysacek? (errr who else?)

New Misha story! https://imgur.com/F5RM3U0
They look exhausted...
I've been wondering...who is actually taking all those pics and vids for Misha?!

oops, forgot, edited in:

Hey, that's so sweet! I love many of the songs in the soundtrack, but then I can't say I love the OST as much as each of the original pieces :P I'm horribly biased as well, but it's a bit different when it comes to music for figure-skating.
Regarding selling to judges, don't they actually love warhorses and give more pcs in general? I sometimes have to wonder that they don't really understand new pieces or their background and hesitate to give away enough points.

You know, that's a very good point. With the new rule that shortened Men FS to 4min, fast programmes like Riverdance are really exhausting. Perhaps a less frenetic programme will help Kazuki to nail down his elements. Having said that, I still hope that at least the StSq will be passionate and energetic!

I think maybe Hiraike-sensei?

Yes, you're right, the advantage of the warhorse is that it's 'tried and tested' music, and FS judges tend to be conservative so it's easier to get good scores with music they are already familiar with. It is a shame because there's so much good music out there that is not commonly used, but I get why at this stage of Kazuki's career, a warhorse might be a good option. I'm hoping later on he can branch out and do some more different pieces!

Suppose he's doing Roxanne, its hook?(the string part) and the end can be extremely passionate and energetic to exhaust you out. Virtue/Moir didn't use this part in their program and switched to Come What May to make it a sort of happy ending. It was lovely too, but this skipped ending part is my favorite and I want Tomono-kun to do it. (And I personally want Nature Boy to go with it to keep its tragic impression.)

at 3:45, Kidman humms Come What May for a little bit (where Virtue/Moir switched their music) and from around 4:20 the Duke gets mad as the violin starts going wild and to the climax. The heavy strings there sound very amazing.

This one may be easier to listen to, the part I'm talking about starts at 4:05.

I think maybe Hiraike-sensei?
:laugh2: I'm afraid he's too busy to always tour around Japan with Misha!

I've read that he was always doing something new (or people say 'different' or 'weird') in junior days when he let Hiraike sensei choose his programs. (and he was probably too scared to say no? lol) Maybe, just maybe, he had always wanted to try some 'normal' ones that others have done?
Jokes aside, I completely agree with you.

A couple of really cute fanarts!

I like your music ideas, Tsurara! Let's hope they make the best out of the music cuts

LOL I thought you referred to the pics/videos with Kazuki

Haha thanks! There are some seriously talented fans out there! :luv17:

BTW, I hadn't noticed, but Kazuki features in Keiji's Twitter banner. Such a great photo!

Do you guys want some good news? Even after WTT, Kazuki's SB is still within the season's Top 24, which means he's guaranteed to have at least one GP assignment next season :yahoo:

That is definitely good news. How are the chances of him getting two assignments looking?
