Kazuki Tomono | Page 43 | Golden Skate

Kazuki Tomono

From his latest IG updates, he seems he actually didn't :( but I will turn a blind eye for now since he gave us this update with Koshiro and just pray he doesn't sport that hair in competition

Hahaha he did get a trim... But yeah, from pic with Koshiro, it seems the perm's still there :hpull:

I'm just glad he got to eat ramen with his good friend Koshiro! Sounds like an awesome way to spend the last day of the Heisei era :luv17:

Thank you so much Tsurara!

More importantly, he learned something more than just technical elements in the last season of Heisei era. Toward the next season in the first year of Reiwa era, he wrote "闘志(fighting spirit)!!" on his autograph board. After meeting with Hanyu and Chen, he felt what they had and he lacked a bit was "fighting spirit".

I have been wondering if that is what he lacked. I’m glad to know he realizes this and is working to improve!

Reiwa era started here. We're halfway through our Golden Week(almost 10 days this year) :coffee:

He may keep that ramen hair to remind him of ramen while competing, as Misha suggested!:dev3:
For some reason, it appears to me that some boys in Japan feel they have to have their hair like that at least once in their lifetime or something. AQFS, you may have to get over it at least for another while
As for the last Heisei photo, his SEV neck really stands out, especially when Koshiro's wearing his colantotte(from his mom, I read).
If I'm guessing correctly, I think they have had some annual athlete check (physical exams on designated skaters by JSF) in Tokyo, which will be broadcasted partly by BS Fuji on May 3rd. (But that ramen shop is in Osaka, maybe they traveled back to Osaka together?)

Regarding 4Lo, yeah I agree that Hanyu-kun's landing was extremely scary, but I'm also scared of a fall before jumping, as I recently read in one of "aru-aru (happens-all-the-time)" list articles (of Men figure skating in Japan) in this ex-skater's blog. (Scroll down to see a gif of fall before a loop jump, that's very scary too)
What Hanyu-kun said in an interview after WC, that edge jumps get affected by ice conditions quite easily compared to toe jumps, is another concern. But not like I know much about jumping quads anyways, so I'll just trust him and his team, and wait patiently to hear how it works out for him!

I personally think he always had fighting spirit, he's the type of skater who never gives up on the performance even if things don't go according to plan (and I love him for it). I think what he was lacking this season was confidence, after his success in Milan he felt like he had a lot to prove and put too much pressure on himself :(

First of all, enjoy the Golden Week and the beginning of the Reiwa era, Tsurara! Hope you're having a good time!
Thanks for the info re: the physical evaluation in Tokyo, please let us know if there's any footage of Kazuki when it airs tomorrow
I noticed his SEV neckless, too!

As for the 4lo, many regard it as the most difficult of the quads (apart from the 4A of course), because you have to prop yourself with without momentum like the Salchow or toe-pick assistance like the toe, flip of lutz. Hence the need for extremely strong hips and legs! I seem to recall Shoma saying he had stopped training the 4lo because it was too difficult.

However, if he's going to expand his quad arsenal, I do think the 4lo it's a good choice for Kazuki, so good luck to him! But I'm praying he takes care of himself and doesn't overdo it

Hope you have a great time ^^

And yeah, I am doing my best but it is not easy, lol

Anyway, it is already the day for PIW, hope we get some pictures and videos

Seems Kazuki did perform a new EX a PIW. I'm waiting on more reports to find out more info.

EDIT: He jumped 3A, 3F, 1A. Still waiting on music info~

So far, people are saying he's got his hair in pompador style? (showing his forehead) and red costume with gold lining-ish, like napoleon?, holding a red trumpet. No music title has been pointed out as far as I've seen, but sounds like a brass band or marching band kind of music, and one of the fans saying, it's a piece often heard on tik tok... or something like that. I have no idea, but it's likely a catchy and exciting brass music with great rhythm and dancing that Tomono-kun is super-good at.

I saw a couple of tweets describing the "red" trumpet and figured I must be interpreting that wrong~ Thank you for confirming!

Thanks, Tsurara and Tsuyoboogie for the info :luv17:

I also saw another tweet mentioning the music might be "Timmy Trumpet & Savage - Freaks" (but I guess we will need some confirmation or video to be sure)
https://twitter.com/papa_ge_na/status/1124182784535171072

This is another version of the music with more lyrics
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1dquH_KOQc

Also seems media done interview with the cast including Kazuki

Finally, here are some more pictures. Not sure what the first tweet says exactly but I think fans talked to him about his feeling now that he broke his perfect record of "No Miss" for his EX of last season which he couldn't keep with this one as he popped his second 3A

Thanks everyone for the updates! I'm barely awake and just :eekn: with this new EX info! I'm soooo curious about this new EX! Quite an original choice of song, and the whole trumpet/pompadour/golden costume description got me so curious!

BTW, did you guys notice he's wearing his SEV necklace! https://twitter.com/BlueSitori/status/1124190908008656897

ETA: Apparently the choreo is by Misao Sato, but he chose the music and the trumpet himself! https://twitter.com/figureskate_4A/status/1124187664192684033

So here is the confirmation from Kazuki, that is indeed it is "Freaks" (but have to wait to know the version and music cut)

I wouldn't have expected him to go this way in choosing the music but I am also curious to see how the choreo looks like, hopefully, we get some video soon.

About SEV, seeing him wearing it hopefully means it is more than just give away from the company and there is some agreement or contract along with it.

I honestly think it's a great music choice for him! He can totally pull off this kind of upbeat, contemporary music, and it's not like there are many skaters out there doing this. Moreover, if he enjoys the music, even better! I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing some videos of this

I totally love how the choice actually shocked me  I don't think it is an easy piece to skate to but I can always see him dance to any music and it would be great to see the choreo add some original elements as well to this original choice.

And to add to our excitement here is the first look at his costume

It'll start soon. I'm sorry I have no means to upload it, but hopefully someone else will, and I'll let you know if anything about him appears/be mentioned.
(I'm actually shocked to have found one of my favorite youtubers' account got taken down very recently.)

And yeah, I am doing my best but it is not easy, lol
So... how do you like his hair at PIW? (I'm pretty sure his hair is still ramen though!)

BTW, what is the correct term for his hair like this in English? Japanese fans are all calling this hair style with his forehead, "オールバック(all back)" meaning "slicked (all hair) back", and what came to my mind was "pompadour", but the wiki for pompadour actually said it's about "リーゼント(regent)" in Japan like Jojo's hair, BUT this リーゼント in Japanese wiki is linked to Ducktail, and it shows Japanese young "tsuppari" boy's photo saying "Ducktail with pompadour". I'm so confused right now

Here is another tweet by a fan, talking about his jumps in the afternoon show.
https://twitter.com/__chiho___7/status/1124283471508074497
Regarding the reason why Tomono-kun had Axel festival (jumped all axels), he said like, "In the morning show, I made a bit of mistake(popped 3A into 1A?). I had a talk with Shoma (earlier) that I(we?) would raise the jump level if I(we?) made a mistake, so I did all axels (in the afternoon show)."
:eekn:

I'm a bit tired now to translate them, (all kinda generic responses though) and I'll work on them later if it's not understandable for you. There is this word, "キレキレ" or "キレッキレ"... I don't know how to translate it... Let me think for a bit. (Or please tell me if you know what it means...)

There are so many photos now, and I'm sure you're better at spotting them all :p I have to get ready for figureskate TV now!

Yup, he was in Part I of the Athlete Check, and a bit of interview.
He had straight hair, so I guess it was taken at the end of March. (Part 2 probably at the end of April.)
(And no Koshiro, but with Mitsuki Sumoto, Sota and others.)

He was doing some jump measurement, and at one of them (can't really remember but jumping only on one foot?):
Examiner: 40.9 cm
Tomono: Hmm (said, not as good as expected or something along the line, but can't remember the exact word)
Examiner: You had 40.8 cm last year.
Other skaters: Ohhhh! (amazed voice)
Tomono: ...... almost the same, isn't it? (<- tsukkomi)

(I got a phone call just when Tomono-kun started responding to an interview and couldn't hear... Sorry :sad21: You'd probably want to find a vid from somewhere anyways.)

After the Part I, Yaginuma (Junko) mentioned that he also told her that this (struggling) season was probably needed for him (to grow).
