Kazuki Tomono

Thx! I can watch it now too, so hopefully my browser is not incompatible. It's very choppy though, loading about every 20 seconds for just as long... Is that the same for others? Well, fingers crossed for tomorrow!

The stream still has glitches, but it seems better today!

Kazuki skates in just a few hours, good luck to him and Taichi! Go, team Osaka!

67-something points for Kazuki. Not bad, considering it seemed to me he doubled his quad and axel after a successful opening 4-3.
Stream working better than yesterday, fortunately! So far.

That 4T3T was so nice, definitely deserved more than +2 GOE... Not to mention he continues to be criminally underscored in PCS 😖

But oh well. At least he's still in second after the SP, and he will be the second to last to skate tomorrow, at 5:21 PM local time: https://twitter.com/Tomono_Infonet/status/1354769243804323847

Good luck in the free, Kazuki!

I think his score is actually fair, given he had two invalid elements. I think he let the jump frustration get to him, because the second half of the program wasn't as sharp and lively as usual. You know I normally vastly prefer Kazuki's artistry to Keiji's, but in this competition I actually agree with the scores, because in this SP, for me Keiji sold his program better than Kazuki. 🏳️
But yes, I hope Kazuki gives Keiji a good run for his money in the free!
TBH, I want Sota and Kazuki in therapy together... maybe some meditation in a temple or some anti-stress homeopathics... only half joking.

I agree Keiji deserved more PCS than Kazuki in this instance! IMO they were both lowballed, Keiji deserved about 40-41 (especially considering they gave 44 to a certain someone else in the junior event 😬 ) and Kazuki deserved about 38-39.

YAAAAAAAASSSSSSSS Kazuki did well today! Thank you bb Jesus! :yahoo:
He did 4T+3T 4S+2T 2S 3Lz 3A+1Eu+3S(so) 3A(fall) 3F
Scored 153.55 in the free and 221 total, winning the event by more than 20 points!

Although far from being a clean performance, this was definitely his best free this season. I'm so glad he was able to finish this weird season on a positive note. Hope he is finally turning a corner

Kazuki confirmed in his post-FS interview that he will continue to compete after his graduation (yay!), but his affiliation will change (he's currently affiliated to Doshisha University). He doesn't know his new affiliation yet, but he will communicate it as soon as possible.

He also said he's currently only pushing towards the Olympics, and working very hard towards this goal, even though he doesn't know if the event will be held. He hopes to do better and continue to grow next season. He also said he is happy he got to be on the podium with Taichi, and that Taichi performed well in his last tournament, and he hopes to do the same one day.

NGL all this retirement talk makes me sad, I can understand being only focused on Beijing right now, but I really hope he will continue after that

Kazuki's choreo and step sequence are so incredible. I love Misha's choreography, and Kazuki really brought it. If he can sort out his jumps like he did today, he'll certainly have a good run of it. It would certainly be a disappointment to see him retire, so I'm glad he's going to continue skating. However, I don't think he'll make the Olympics unless there's an injury in Japan. If someone did get hurt (please no one get hurt) he'd be my first choice to go though.

It certainly seems like JSF already chose their Olympic team, doesn't it 😩

But who knows. The guys on the main team need to pray Kazuki isn't the first alternate - three out of four times Kazuki's been an alternate in the past few years, he ended up being called 😈

(Not wishing injury on anyone, just stating facts)

Kazuki will be finishing his university life with a bang - he was selected to receive Doshisha's Sports Individual Achievement Awards 2020: https://doshisha-su.com/topics/2351/ Among his achievements, they list his Incare victory in January 2020, his performance at 4CC 2020 and the silver medal at NHK 2020. If you think about it, what he achieved is really impressive considering everything!

Yuhana posted a story with him - I'm afraid I can't give you a translation, but she seems to be praising his FS and 4T3T: https://twitter.com/takeyo55098794/status/1355449296817061889

Kazuki himself posted a story thanking Taichi 😭

I'm actually surprised Kazuki didn't cry in public at Kokutai, but I think he probably shed some tears in private...

Just realised I forgot to link the Manichi pics from Kokutai!

Guys, check out the picture Taichi chose for his retirement post 😭
ETA: The Twitter version is also a picture with Kazuki 😭

Taichi also posted a few IG stories over the weekend, including some selfies with Kazuki and a picture of Kazuki fast asleep on the train 😅
He said he and Kazuki were watching the Ladies at Kokutai, but Kazuki had forgotten his glasses and only remembered to put them on when Wakaba, the 21st skater, was about to skate! So basically up to that point, he hadn't been able to see anything properly 🤣

Their friendship/rivalry is so sweet and, unsurprisingly, inspired cute fan arts:

Ryuju also posted pics with Kazuki, including this one: https://www.instagram.com/p/CKu65DVpKT0/
If Google Translate is correct, Ryuju says Kazuki is a 'motivation monster' lol
There's also this group one, the height difference made me smile: https://twitter.com/takeyo55098794/status/1356276458096746496

Sweet! How can I view the pic with Kazuki on the train? ^ ^ And your translation was correct :]
It looks like Sota outgrew everyone in that group pic... surely that's impossible, he and Ryuju should be the same height. Must be an optical illusion :o
Anyhow, I wanted to say I watched Men's free over the weekend, and Kazuki's performance was great! The speed in the final part is insane. :drama:

Yes, I can see it now! Thanks! :D Yeah, Kazuki looks positively done in. :dbana:I see this IS also contains the story ofKazuki forgetting his glasses, hehe. It appears it was chosen as the most interesting inside story from Kokutai by Taichi :D

Sad news, but not unexpected: The Osaka Autumn Challenge ice show and skating experience, which had been postponed from early Dec to late Feb, has now been cancelled due to the rise of coronavirus infections in the area 😔

Such a shame! Kazuki was the headliner, but other skaters like Mitsuki, Taichi, Yuto Kishina, Sena Miyake and Yuna Shiraiwa were also scheduled to appear.

That's sad. It was supposed to be Kazuki's last competition this season, right? He's one of the alternates for WC, and we can suspect that Hanyu may want to WD, but who knows if that event will even take place.
I hope Japan gets the numbers under control soon.

Whoa, Kirara, have you seen this? Cute Kazuki from 2011  This account has some video treasures that I haven't seen yet, and this is one of them:

Oh no, this wasn't a competition, it was just an ice show. Still a shame because it would have been a fun event.
His last competition of the season *should* be the Kansai Student Ice Skating Championship that normally happen in mid-to-late Feb, but I think it's fair to assume this event will be cancelled too 😔
He will need to continue training for now as he is one of the alternates for Worlds, although he's the second alternate this time (first is Keiji). I gotta be honest and say I will be very happy if he doesn't go, because I'm not confident it will be a safe event 😬

YESSSSS I had seen it, sorry I meant to post it here but forgot. It's just cuteness overload, isn't it? 😆
He was so tiny! My brain refuses to process the fact he was already 13 then.
I'm also impressed by how big his jumps were considering his size. That really reinforces to me that he is actually a talented jumper, it's just a shame that teaching jump tech wasn't Hiraike-sensei's strongest point (but we still love you, Hiraike-sensei!)

This account also posted his Western Sectionals '18 SP, which I always wanted to see: https://youtu.be/jgd-rT0GnyI
Bit of context: Kazuki wasn't required to participate in these Sectionals, as it was just one week after his first GP assignment (SCI '18). However, he had had a disappointing result at SCI (he had finished in 9th), so he decided to compete one more time before the next assignment.
I believe it was the fact that he finally managed to perform well in these Sectionals, and especially in this SP, that gave him confidence for his next assignment (CoR '18) in which he ended up medalling 💪
I also remember he scored 83 something in this SP and he was his PB at the time for the short. How things change! Two years later, when he scored 83 at NHK '20, I thought it was a disappointing score 😅

Also, looking back at Cinema Paradiso, it's amazing to think he had never had a soft and lyrical programme before - the style was totally new for him but he nailed it since the first go. It's also crazy to think he went from a conventional programme like Cinepara to something completely out of the box like Chroma - and again he was able to pull it off, even with an upgraded layout!
Similarly, the went from cute and energetic in the free (WSS, Riverdance) to dramatic and 🔥 in Moulin Rouge, in the space of one season. He is just so versatile. I simply cannot wait to see what kind of programme he's gonna do next!
