Hi everyone,
I've been a dormant member but yay, Kazuki at 2 competitions in Europe in 2 weeks!!
I'd suspected JSF may have assigned him to Coup de Printemps with Kao's injury in mind, as he looks so out of place at CdP especially after his achievements this season (no offence to other 7 skates including Tatsuya Tsuboi, who was 9th in JNat 2021). While Kao explained his injury was new, I think JSF was right for once; it would be quite complicated to send athletes from Japan to Europe at present given Russian airspace closure and the COVID concerns & restrictions remaining in Japan.
I decided only last weekend to go to the Worlds with a faint hope that this might happen, but my friends in Japan had to give up their trip - I'm selling Gold & C2 tickets for Men's at half price in other threads, if you're interested
The schedule is quite convenient and worth considering if my fellow Kazuki fans wish to make it at the last minute; Men's FS is at 10:55 - 14:50 on Saturday 26th. Hopefully Kazuki will be in the last group (or the second to last at worst), so even a day trip would be possible subject to the transportation availability. From London where I live, easyJet flight arrives at Montpelier at 10am on Saturday @£36. The arena is just 5 minutes away from the airport by car according to Google. Marseille airport has more flights and is connected to Montpellier by Flixbus (about 2 hours at $4) - I'll have to take this route on my way back on Sunday 27th right after the Exhibition.
Everybody guess what?! Kazuki is on NowVoice! This is so awesome! Shoma, Keiji and now Kazuki are on it. If only someone could translate what he said in English. It’s too bad that you have to have a subscription to NowVoice in order to hear it because it makes it harder.
I didn't even know what NowVoice was, but saw Kazuki's Twitter and immediately downloaded the app while his recording was still available without registration. Rough translation from my vague recollection:
Self-introduction - Kazuki started figure skating nearly 20 years ago as there was an ice rink near his home. He was not an elite skater when he was a novice/ junior. But he didn’t give up and has been slowly making a progress. Now he competes at a global level.
He knew that Shoma, Keiji and some athletes belonging to Central Sports are on NowVoice. He actually had asked Keiji about it shortly before he received an invitation. He is really excited at the opportunity and tried writing a scenario in advance. But now he has started he finds it quite challenging. He's been standing in front of the microphone for an hour recording and deleting.
He ended by thanking listeners and inviting them for questions for the next recordings.
Apparently he had recorded in Japan and the comment section is flooded with messages cheering him for the Worlds, with some genuine questions for him about his hobby, diet, programmes for the next season etc.
