Kazuki Tomono

Thank you for posting! Such a cute article and the pictures are :love2:
What do you guys think about the outfits he chose for Shoma, Sota and Koshiro? I'm not super sure about Shoma's outfit, but I think it's cute he put so much thought into it.

Meanwhile, a few more pics from WTT:

As a Shoma fan I definitely love Kazuki's choice. It's actually super on trend with the oversized clothes and workman-like vibes. Stylist Kazuki when!!!! 😆 Others are disagreeing in other forums but I love that Kazuki said in the beginning that this is the clothes he wants to see Shoma in, as in, it's not exactly what Shoma usually wears (except the cute bucket hat! lol) but hey, if I was Kazuki and I was presented by a full store of BEAMS clothes for myself I definitely would have fun with it too. Also Kazuki choosing the New Balance shoes that looks similar to Shoma's (sponsored) Mizuno sneakers was a thoughtful touch.

I love what he chose for Koshiro and Sota too. I would definitely watch a 2-hour special of Kazuki and Team Japan guys browsing through the vintage clothes stores because some of them (read: Shoma) can use some fashion help kwkwkwkw 😂

Not a fan of Kazuki's choices for Shoma and Koshiro, but hey, he tried, and some like his picks. I think the choice for Sota's outfit fits what Sota usually picks, looks quite cool, and Sota himself would no doubt be satisfied with the all-black. ;) I don't get the pajama-ish outfit for Shoma, or the short jacket for Kashiro who is already long-legged. And I've never been a fan of those bucket-like cloth hats. But then, I don't get the vast majority of outfits the Japanese fashion magazines pick for Kazuki, either. So yeah, that was my two cents ;)

Loving the gala photos, and looking forward to Kazuki's new program announcements.

Ooooh thank you so much for this take, it definitely helped me to see Shoma's outfit in a different light. You're right, it's all about having fun and choosing something different and trendy!

Sota's was my favourite as well! I like that he said that some of his choices only work for Sota (I think it was wearing skinny trousers with boots), and he would never do the same. He really thought about what fits/suits each boy! I don't actually mind Koshiro's and I see Shoma's outfit now in a better light thanks to @rabidline

Now I want to see the boy actually wearing the outfits lol

Is Kazuki married?! I thought he mentioned marriage in the article when I hit the translate button to English. Well if he is congratulations!

Haha no, I don't think so... As far as I know, he lives with his parents. Although, he did give advice on marriage in one of the non-no columns, as well as other subjects such as parenting, jealousy of friends, insecurities re: fashion style, etc. His advice is always solid!

Here's a fantastic article looking back at Kazuki's season, I translated with DeepL: https://number.bunshun.jp/articles/-/857233

Kazuki Tomono, 24 years old, thought about his "critical year": "I wonder why I am feeling so weak" and "I want to be a player who people can say I am good at what I do."

We have achieved results. That's why he could see the path he should take. It has been such a year for figure skater Kazuki Tomono.

What I lack most is the desire and feeling to put my best foot forward.

Kazuki Tomono is sometimes called "an entertainer on the ice. After finishing the 2021-2022 season a year ago, Tomono, who has been making his presence felt in the figure skating world with a personality that attracts viewers, was determined to start a new season.

I watched the Beijing Olympics live," he said, "I felt that although there were differences in technique, what I lacked was the desire and the feeling to put my best foot forward. I thought that if I could do it with that kind of feeling, I would be able to improve my technique even more.

I felt that you have practiced with the determination to perform your best even with the podium at stake (at the World Championships). (Winner) Shoma (Uno), (2nd place) Yuma (Kagiyama), and (third-place finisher) Vincent (Zhou), too.

Tomono, too, has been working on figure skating with a strong passion, and has not neglected it. But he felt he needed to raise his awareness of the importance of figure skating.

Tomono has faced adversity that has made it difficult for him to continue competing...

In the 2022-2023 season, Tomono faced "challenges" that tested his resolve both on and off the rink.

Before the season started, the contract with the sponsor that had been supporting him was terminated. This means that it would be difficult for the skater to continue competing, which would cost him a lot of money. After the competition, he informed that he was looking for sponsors through interviews and other media. Since he had to have an affiliation in order to compete, he decided to join the Uenoshiba Skating Club, where he had spent his junior high school years.

He has been facing challenges in the rink as well.

In the first round of the Grand Prix Series in France, he placed 2nd in the short program, but in the free skate, he lost points for 5 out of 7 jumps, and one of them was a single axel with no rotation. He placed 3rd overall, and although he made it to the podium, he expressed his frustration.

With medals on the line, it is still difficult to compete in the free skate.

I hope I can face my strength and work on it.

In the following Free Skate at the NHK Cup, Tomono made a mistake on a jump and placed 4th overall, just one step short of the podium. Tomono thought to himself, "What's wrong with me?

I wondered why I was feeling so weak. Actually, I was thinking, 'I should have confidence. From now on, I hope to have confidence in myself and face up to my own strength.

There are some areas where I am lacking. But if I can admit that I have improved, even if only a little, I can change. ...... Tomono, who has reached a new level, showed his ground strength at the All-Japan Championships. In the FS, where many of the expected top skaters made mistakes, Tomono skated without any breakdown, despite a jump failure in the first half of the race. As a result, he placed 3rd, his first podium finish in his 10th competition.

Tomono's intuition: "If I'm not careful, it will be rough.

After playing many matches, I had a hunch that the atmosphere in the six minutes of practice would be rough if we were not careful, or that there would be a unique tension.

I had a hunch that if I concentrated on myself and didn't get dragged into the atmosphere, the results would come. I tried to be objective and sense the atmosphere and the tension, while concentrating on myself.

He was selected as a representative for the World Championships, drawing on everything he has experienced so far, including successes and failures, joys and frustrations. He had competed twice before, but both times he was moved up from an alternate spot. This was the first time he had grabbed a ticket on his own.

I'm glad to know that what I've done was not a mistake.

He showed that he is sure of his ability, which he has cultivated in the World Championships. In the FS, he came in 7th in the short program. Some jumps fell down. Still, he succeeded in a quadruple combination jump, and a quadruple salchow, which he had failed in the short program. In the choreo sequence he "just put my legs out with my heart," and his skating drew cheers and applause from the audience. He scored 180.73 points, far surpassing his previous record, and reaching the 180-point mark for the first time. He finished the competition in 6th place with a total of 273.41 points, the first time he has scored in the 270-point range.

I think it's really a gradual process.

While he was secretly wishing he could have made a bigger leap forward, he also sensed the results of his efforts.

There has been some progress on the sponsorship issue...

Tomono will celebrate his 25th birthday in May, and while many skaters finish their careers in their early 20s, Tomono has had a long career spanning nearly 20 years. Even so, his passion for skating has never waned. In fact, he has shown himself to be more passionate about it than ever before. This is the driving force behind his continued growth and his ability to take another step forward from last season.

There has also been progress in the sponsorship issues that the team has been facing. In February this year, the team signed an advisory contract with medical equipment manufacturer Colantotte, and in March it signed a sponsorship deal with HD Flower Holdings, a general trading company in the flower business. The fact that these sponsors have come forward is due in no small part to the fact that their stance has been well-received.

After the World Championships and the ice show, he competed in the World Team Trophy, where he was not able to perform as well as he should have, due to the effects of the difficult adjustment.

I fought with this group and found some things lacking.

I want to improve my basic skills," he said.

It was really fun. I think I was able to find what I was lacking because I competed as a team with this group.

I would like to participate again (in the team tournament). I want to be that kind of player that people say, 'This is what he's capable of.'

The "first stage" in which they competed at the end of the season, where they could feel their growth, was also a valuable time for them to move on to the next stage.

GUYS! Kazuki will be on the One Piece on Ice show!

He will be playing Koza! Koza is a super cool character but I'm surprised about this choice, as he is an antagonist for part of the Alabasta saga. I was also hoping Kazuki would be cast to be one of the main crew members, but oh well! Really looking forward to this and happy he was included in this project.

Here's the description of the role as per the One Piece on Ice website:
Vivi's childhood friend. Although he cares for the people of Alabasta who are suffering from drought, he is deceived by Crocodile and rebels against the king, becoming the leader of the rebel army.

Kazuki's message:
I was very surprised to hear about this story, but I am excited! This Alabasta episode is one of my very favorite episodes. This is the first time I have been given a role to play, but I wanted to give it my all. The speed and the powerful jumps. The sound of ice skating. The sound of ice skating, the beauty of skating...please experience it right in front of your eyes!
