Kazuki Tomono

By the way, is Kazuki’s original rink that he would skate at a lot no longer where he goes? I was thinking of writing him another letter in the future but I don’t know which rink to send it to since his sponsorship changed.
Send it through JSF. That way it's certain the letter reaches him, though there's a rumor they only forward fanmail to skaters once a month. Or you can try asking Kazuki on his social media. I think he knows enough English to understand such a question, or Google translate should get the job done correctly as well.

What kind of advice do you suppose Kazuki would give to an adult skater who is learning new skills? I’m planning to showcase adult 4 this summer in competition but my forward crossovers are what I struggle with the most. My problem is I think too much about them and then it makes it so hard to get my one foot to cross over the other one.

@Figskater23 As far as I know he still trains at the Naniwa Sports Centre ice rink! Good luck with sending the letter, and good luck with the competition this summer 🤗

Meanwhile, FaOI Makuhari has finished! Here's a video of Kazuki and Sota sending a message to fans before the last day of the show:

It warms my heart to see so many positive comments about Kazuki and Sota on social media, as 'first timers' it must have been nerve-wracking but they did such a great job, and many people commented they want them to be there again next year.

Kazuki also revealed the choreographer of his highly praised 'Tsumugi' gala:

Sasahara-senpai 😭 He used to be part of Doshisha University's figure skating club with Kazuki

A nice article about Kazuki was published on Asahi online today (DeepL Translation):

Kazuki Tomono is a "stubborn boy," the origin of his ability to face challenges even when they don't produce results.

On the rink, Kazuki Tomono (Uenoshiba Club) was holding his head after his performance.

It was the World Team Trophy held at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium in April. It was the last free skate of the season.

The problem was his quadruple toeloop. In the All-Japan Championships last December, he opened his body in the air, and in the World Championships this March, he fell down.

On this day, he landed it beautifully. The audience cheered loudly, and he got a GOE of 3.39.

Breaking through the devil's gate. However, a pitfall was waiting for him.

The next quadruple salcow was judged as under-rotated, and the last triple Axel (three and a half revolutions) was one and a half revolutions.

Tomono was thinking about his performance. However, he never looked down. In fact, in his comments, he mentioned some points to fix for the next round.

"I didn't have many chances to practice all the programs together. I realized that with such anxiety, I would not be able to perform well"

The 25-year-old knows that frustration helps him to polish his skating.

In the figure skating world, where many skaters are active at a young age, he is a relatively "late bloomer". Looking back, Tomono has continued to make progress little by little, by learning from his mistakes and improving without being corrupt.

His coach, Taijin Hiraike (44), who has worked with him since he was in the early grades of elementary school, says, "He is not a talent, but a hard worker. He is not a gifted player, and his efforts do not always produce immediate results. He is a hard-working kid."

When he was in junior high school and high school, he was not selected for the Junior Grand Prix (GP) series for three consecutive years.

The frustration became energy. Coach Hiraike remembers the change in Tomono at that time.

If you fail three years in a row, you usually lose heart. But (on the contrary), he will to do his best to became stronger.

In the past, he used to focus only on enjoying his performances, and was not so attached to the rankings or the results. But his concentration on each jump began to change. Coach Hiraike says, "It is because he faced skating without breaking down at that time that he is now where he is today."

In the 2022-2023 season, Tomono made his 10th attempt at the All-Japan Championships, and reached the podium for the first time at the age of 24. He also grabbed a ticket to the World Championships on his own for the first time, finishing 6th in the main event.

"I've been improving step by step since I was a junior, and every time I go up a stage, I can see a new stage," he said. Tomono's words are filled with real feeling.

Naturally, he has his sights set on the world's top. However, at the World Championships, he was about 30 points behind the winner, Shoma Uno of Toyota Motor Corp. It will not be easy to get there.

There are always obstacles, but I've never thought, 'I can't get over it". I've been able to reach the top because of all the hard work I've put in up to now. I hope I can break through this wall again.

The next challenge, he says, is "stability. I want to do my best to give a performance that can be watched with confidence," he said.

Though his speed is slow, he is moving forward, one step at a time. His frustration will make him stronger. (Takaaki Fujino)

TY! I love a hard working boy!

Cross-posting this from Sota's Fan Fest since Kazuki posted the same picture on Instagram 😄

Also, the next print edition of Sauna Bros will have a feature on Kazuki!
'Kazuki Tomono enjoys SAUNA in Toyama Prefecture'

Many fans (me included) are wondering when did he have time to go to Toyama 😱 He really never stops 😂
(PS. I looked at the map and Toyama Prefecture is not exactly close to Osaka...)

TY..w no translation button on Twitter, I am lost..

Kazuki performed 'Bills' and 'Tsumugi' again at FaOI Miyagi. Once again 'Tsumugi' earned a lot of praise, and he revealed on Twitter that there are actually three different patterns for the costume, and he uses a different one each day!

Meanwhile, it seems that the next non-no article will contain a new programme announcement 👀

I wonder who did this new program..

Do we have any idea if Kazuki is planning to reveal his new SP or FS at DoI?
Yes we do! We already know the music and choreographer for his new SP (Cody Fry's 'Underground', choreo by Jeff Buttle), and he said he thinks he'll be ready to debut it at DOI :love2:

As for his FS, I think it's likely he already chose the music but it hasn't been choreographed yet. We already know his new FS will be choreographed by Misha Ge again and they haven't been together since Worlds 🤔

Now, after FaOI and before DOI, Kazuki has a break of about 3 weeks and half - his biggest stretch of time off in the whole of the off-season 😭😂 So, I think it's likely he will go to California soon to be with Misha and choreograph his new FS. Given the timeline, I think debuting the new FS at DOI will be too soon, so maybe we will see his new FS at The Ice in late July.

The biggest mystery for me is the EX. At this point, having an iconic EX is basically part of Kazuki's 'brand' and personally something that I look forwarding to seeing as much as a new SP and FS. He said before he was looking for music for a new EX but it's clear he hasn't had a new one choreographed yet. As 'Tsumugi' by DAPUMP has been such a big success at FaOI, will he keep it as his EX for the season? Will that be allowed, or will this fall into FaOI copyright? Will he want to do that? So many questions 😅

Meanwhile, here's a cute Kazuki and Sota message to fans on the last day of FaOI:

Yuzuru Hanyu has skated later several Exhibition programs started in Fantasy on Ice, the best known being Haru yo, Koi! He then used a studio recorded music instead of the live music of one of the shows, and the copyrights were certainly the same as for any other program using a recorded music and performed at the Gala of a figure skating competition or in a show.
This being said, I loved his Free program from last season and I think it would make an excellent exhibition program too, with dim lights, particularly if the Short Program and the Free Skating were more "rock".
And I wouldn't put past Kazuki Tomono to skate a newly choreographed program at Dream on Ice, but let's see!

Haha I’m not surprised. I have a feeling he would go to at least one sauna in ever prefecture in Japan. Then he could rank which prefectures have the best sauna.

Thank you so much! I just had two ice shows the other day and I channeled my inner Kazuki as I stepped out onto the ice with my group to perform. I have a few Japanese teachers who can help me translate what I want to say to him so I hope my words put a smile on his face. I wish I could meet him in person to tell him in Japanese my words.

Ohhh it's good to know! So he could potentially keep 'Tsumugi' for the rest of the season 🤔

Meanwhile some more Twitter updates after FaOI:
