Kazuki Tomono

While in theory this doesn't change things much, I'm worried about what this means in practice, as going into Nats knowing for sure you're already in the pool might be a huge psychological advantage. At the very least, it gives it more weight into the GP series which is worrying for us Kazuki fans since he tends not to be at his peak so soon in the season, plus he has very tough assignments 🫠

Well, I guess those who meet the criteria before, will do it in a way that it's quite clear that they are in the pool? And they've always known that before. Nats pressure is different and I think everybody has it because those who had a good season until then, will have to "defend" that and want to show themselves. In lots of other countries, I'd see a bit of an advantage, but in Japan? Not so much 😨

I suppose that this year, only Shoma Uno complies? He has said previously that he didn't understand how these rules were working, but I'm sure that some people have always told him that he was selected for sure, without explanaining; which may have been the reason why he didn't try to enquire further, until last year when at first he thought that Koshiro Shimada would be selected.
So, my impression is that this is a change for more transparency for fans, rather than for the skaters themselves and their teams.
What still lacks transparency with JSF, is the attribution of GP and JGP spots, but this doesn't affect Kazuki Tomono anymore.
Please tell me if I'm wrong!

@yesterday @DizzyFrenchie Thanks for your thoughts. Yeah it will be interesting to see what happens. It might not change much since before the skaters who fulfilled the criteria by the end of the GP series knew they did, but like... I wonder if seeing your name spelled out for everyone to see will change someone's confidence and mentality going into Nats. Regardless of these rules, we can assume that Japanese men will be a bloodbath this season. God help Kazuki and us, Kazuki fans :drama:

Meanwhile, Kazuki seems to be having fun at The Ice rehearsals:

He practised 'Halston' again today, and also did some jump practice and landed a beautiful 4S.

Also, Colantotte announced they will have a booth at The Ice! It seems those who buy their products get a little acrylic figure stand, so fans are super excited

Kazuki's pictures for Colantotte are very nice!

Kazuki's profile on Fuji TV, finally a nice portrait photo: https://www.fujitv.co.jp/sports/skate/figure/skater/KazukiTOMONO.html

Meanwhile, Kazuki performed 'Halston' today at The Ice, once again earning a lot of praise from the Japanese fans. Lots of them mentioned it's quite a difficult programme, with quiet music and completely different from what he's done before. I can't wait to see it!

I have not see one pic of him..or read a word..He was in the snippet video that Jason put up..from practice..that is all that I saw..

I don't have much news to share unfortunately, just that he performed 'Underground' at The Ice evening show yesterday, and 'Halston' again at this morning's show. Once again, he earned a lot of praise online, but like @kwanette I haven't seen any pictures or videos from his performances 😭

One funny thing is that it seems that his Colantotte's little acrylic figure was sold out pretty fast yesterday, and then Colantotte said they will send more via mail/add more to their vending booths. It's nice to see he's so popular!

Finally, a couple of pics from The Ice!

This is a picture of him performing 'Halston', but note he's wearing the Chroma v2 costume, so this is not the actual costume. I imagine we'll see his proper costumes at Nebelhorn.

Actually, Kazuki's kanji literally means 'pole', but it can be translated as 'top position' (as F1's pole position)/highest ranking. For me it's a really touching choice that illustrates his determination to really become a top skater 🥹

Meanwhile, he travelled with The Ice tour to Nikko!

I see two tourists and two locals there 🤣

Do we know what Kazuki was dancing to in the battle? I have just seen the photos and a brief video on Twitter, and I can't say I get the outfit

Thanks, this is a nice interview. It was interesting learning more about his routine, I now think the secret of his amazing energy is the fact that he often takes 2h naps during the day 😆 I wish I could do the same, so jealous. Also, I didn't know he trains more during the off-season than during the season!

I watched the battle, there wasn't any specific song, just generic 'The Ice' music. For those who missed it, I posted a little clip on Twitter:

Here we can see the costume in its full glory, love the leopard print tights 🐆

He REALLY went all out, I think he really wanted to win since the next stage will be in his hometown Osaka on 30 July! He will be facing the winner of the Kaori v Keegan dance battle.

Meanwhile, he debuted his new EX today at The Ice! It seems the music is indeed 'Jazz Machine', and he had Mai Mihara making a special appearance during the programme. AAAAAHHHH Another programme that I can't wait to see it.

He's also on the entry list to compete at the All Osaka II Figure Skating Championships on 26-27 August: https://www.jsfresults.com/local/2023-2024/fs/27/index.htm
Nobunari Oda and Yuto Kishina will be competing there too, so it should be fun!

AHHHHH Finally some info re: Kazuki's practice for One Piece on Ice :love2:

So @rabidline was right and there will be a big battle scene with Kazuki and the PIW ensemble! So cool!

Heee. The photos are amazing and Kazuki looks so cool leading the fight scene with his weapon! And yep I am also reminded of his swordfighting scene when he has to take over for Takeshi Honda's role at PIW, so when the article mentioned it I just nodded, LOL. They know the ice show scene well.

I know at first Kazuki's role seems quite minor for this anime ice show adaptation of ONE PIECE but I think when Koza was introduced as "Rebel Leader Koza" I can sense that he will lead the rebel army and be involved in a battle scene since, you know, he's a leader of an army in this particular arc. I love how non-no is giving a lot of behind the scenes content!

Tl;dr I am not always right but I am always pleased when I'm proven so.
