Kazuki Tomono

So, One Piece on Ice Yokohama is over. Seems like it was an amazing show, and it was wonderful to see Kazuki in character. While Koza didn't draw as much attention as Luffy, Zoro and Sanji (who are the main characters), I saw plenty of praise to his interpretation. One that stood out for me was the person who said that even in a big group scene he was able to stand out as a leader. I've seen a few people as well saying his jumps are so powerful and dynamic, as you'd expect from Koza.

Some updates from yesterday:

Some close-ups:

It seems there is a typhoon today, so hopefully he and all the One Piece cast and team will be safe! I wonder if Kazuki will stay in Tokyo for a couple of days to do something with non-no...

I admit I don't know a thing about the anime or manga OnePiece portrayed, but I'm impressed Kazuki managed to jump anything, still less 3A, in that costume ;) Now, the preparation for Nebelhorn begins I guess... Hoping he wins it this time.

Actually, he has two other events before Nebelhorn! He'll be competing at the All-Osaka Championship on 25-26 Aug (it's a free skate only competition), and then there's the other leg of One Piece on Ice on 2-3 September in Nagoya. So busy!

quite unfamiliar without the glasses (on ice it's a different story)
Haha some Clark Kent/Superman duality 😁

Samsonite Japan sent him some really cool gifts! I'm always happy when I see brands wanting to associate themselves with Kazuki. Samsonite had already sent him gifts last year, but that was after he used a Samsonite suitcase in his EX Bills at Worlds 2022. I'm pleasantly surprised they sent him a new set this year!

He also posted this IG story, we can see the sword he used during the show!

Finally, here's his Mainichi article (behind a paywall as usual): https://mainichi.jp/articles/20230812/k00/00m/050/091000c
This is still part of the series about his skating shoes!

This is good for Samsonite. They must have an intelligent and reactive advertising team.

And Kazuki Tomono is so in character! I wouldn't have recognised him on this photo.

If you have summary of the Mainichi article, I should like it.

Sadly, I don't have a subscription to Mainichi so I can't access it 😢 Here's the beginning of the article:

Straightforward shoes" or "habitual shoes"? The weight of skating shoes / Medium=Kazuki Tomono

Kazuki Tomono, 25, a member of Uenoshiba Skating Club, who has been an entertainer in various ice shows during the off-season, will start his season at the All Osaka II Championships (Osaka Prefectural Rinkai Sports Center) on the 26th. In this column, "Happiness with an honest smile," we will talk about the "shoes" that support Tomono in the previous three articles. Tomono says he is a "soft" person, but this time the theme is about "weight.

Leather is full of romance.
Depending on the weight of the shoe, the sound of the edge (cutting edge) scraping the ice will be different. Naturally, shoes made of leather material are heavier, and can make more massive slides. This is just my theory, but there are players who like leather shoes and tend to have good technique. I think it has something to do with the generation.

Recently, as technology has improved, light and strong shoes made of carbon material are the mainstream. And because they are light, they are easier to jump in. However, when it comes to skating alone, I prefer shoes made of leather.

In other news, World Figure Skating magazine is hosting a talk show event with Kazuki in Tokyo on 4 September!

So that means he'll be doing One Piece on Ice in Nagoya on 2-3 September, then going to Tokyo the following day for this event! :jaw:

Sorry to beat you to this in this thread, Kirara, but I really liked the photo:

Kazuki's energy never seems to drain, does it?
I wonder what center the photo is taken at? It looks a bit like Howa to me, but then, I imagine multiple rinks in Japan look alike.

Haha no need to apologise, I'm always happy with people update the thread 🥰 I love this photo too, I'm wondering about the circumstances... Is Kazuki in Nagoya for training, or maybe One Piece on Ice practice? Is Yuhana doing something for Nagoya TV? Or is this just two friends catching up? So many questions!

Meanwhile, ticket sales for Kazuki's World Figure Skating talk show event opened today and... sold out in minutes. Let's remember each ticket costs 7,000 yen (about $50) each, and the event will be held on a Monday evening 🤯 Seems that ticket numbers were in three digits by the end, which means more than 100 people will attend. As I result 'Tomono-kun' was trending on Japanese Twitter. His popularity is insane🙀

Speaking of sales, The Ice photobook is available for order: https://selepo.me/event_65/
Seems that it's possible to customise and there are great pics of Kazuki: https://selepo.me/event_65/#picture
