Kazuki Tomono

Seeing the scores Sota got, PCS especially, I wouldn't think so... 😬
Nebelhorn judges were definitely stingy, but I still think Japanese domestic judges are worse in terms of being blind/biased.

I showed Kazuki's skate to a non-Kazuki stan friend and she used the word 'cruel' to describe his score 💀

I'm myself so used to seeing Kazuki being scored like this, I feel desensitised at this point 🗿

Sure, I didn't point it out to try and compare who was robbed more, but rather, I wanted to point out that there's no guarantee if Kazuki would have been scored fairly in Germany. There's no telling what a judge who is able to give a top JPN skater lower SS than Burak, might do if they were to judge Kazuki 🙈
Overall, I'm disappointed JSF didn't send Kazuki to Nebelhorn if money was an issue. I could get that they didn't want to attend another full competition with fed officials and pay for the plane tickets for everyone, but adding just Kazuki to Nebelhorn would hurt them minimally. Well, hopefully he gets a lot of fan love at Finlandia.

I watched the boy who came in second..very nice jump landings..a quad, 3 ax and a 3/3..Performance quality compared to Kazuki? Not even close. Every part of Kazuki's body is involved in his choreo..face, head movements..each finger..When is the FS?

Good fight, Kazuki, and congrats on the silver! A pity that his jumps in the first half were not stable, but I have to wonder what kind of role the SP marks played, and the opening quad fall. I haven't seen the videos yet so I hope he didn't suffer a hard fall there?
Good luck in the GP series then! It can only get better from now on. 💪

Well, it wouldn't be Kinki without a Kazuki flop, right? 😮‍💨

What makes this different from the usual flops is that I genuinely believe he might be coming down with an illness - he mentioned feeling light-headed yesterday in practice, and despite that, he exerted himself quite hard yesterday in the SP, landing two quads.

Today, watching him skate, he looked depleted and shaky even in his triples, which is highly unusual 🤔 He mentioned in the interview below that he is not yet in that good shape, and of course both his programmes are extremely difficult to pull off (that's why I wanted him to play safe!), but on top of that, it wouldn't surprise me if he caught a winter bug - sometimes they don't know knock you down, but they make you feel 'off' and fatigued.

He has five weeks now to prepare for GP France, so hopefully he'll get to recover and build up his strength and stamina

Figure Skating: Kazuki Tomono was 2nd, despite a jump miss, ‘I'm quite confident in my skating’ / Kinki Championships

Kazuki Tomono (26, Daiichi Juken Group), the leader of the short programme (SP), was third in the free programme with 138.88 points and second in the final ranking with a total of 227.64 points.

'I felt like, well, that's how it is. I was still tired from yesterday and I didn't have the strength to concentrate for two days and complete the competition.'

He fell on his quad toeloop at the beginning of the competition. After that, he continued to make mistakes in the jumps and his score was sluggish, but he scored 79.11 points, the highest overall, in the Performance Component Score (PCS), which shows the expressive aspect of his performance, and his skating, which is his strength, was highly evaluated.

'I'm getting much more confident in my skating and I'm able to control my nerves down to the smallest details’.

The score reaffirmed his strengths, but he is very conscious of his jumps, saying: ‘This programme is only as good as the jumps. I want to practice to raise my standards in any situation’.

After this competition, the issues have become clear. The 26-year-old, who has set ‘winning’ as his theme for this season, will improve his jump success rate for the Grand Prix (GP) series third round in France and fifth round in Finland, which he is scheduled to compete in November.

Today, Kazuki attended the Team Japan pre-GP season press conference - apparently, a stylist picked everyone's outfits but, as Shoma point out lol Kazuki ended up wearing clothes that are quite similar to the clothes he normally wears:

Article about his words:

Kazuki Tomono's theme for this season is ‘hatching’. At the opening press conference of the new season, he said: ‘Now is the best time to grow up’.
A press conference for the start of the 2024-25 figure skating season was held in Tokyo on 30 June, attended by leading athletes. The five male skaters, Yuma Kagiyama, Sota Yamamoto, Kao Miura, Shun Sato and Kazuki Tomono, and the five female skaters, Kaori Sakamoto, Mone Chiba, Rinka Watanabe, Hana Yoshida and Mai Mihara, dressed up and took the stage. Stylists suggested clothes that matched each athlete's theme for the season. The event conveyed a different charm from on the ice. Shuzo Matsuoka and Shoma Uno hosted the press conference.

Kazuki Tomono, 26, appeared in a dark blue velvet set-up, and set the theme for this season as ‘hatching’. 'I'm the oldest among them, and people say I'm a veteran, but I think I'm in the prime stage of my career. This year, I've gone from a chrysalis to a butterfly, and next season, the Olympic season, I'd like to flap my wings. This year I'm at the stage just before completion.

The Grand Prix (GP) series he will compete in the third round of the Cup of France (1-3 November) and the fifth round in Finland (15-17 November).

A little spoiler from the Shoma x Sota Mizuno talkshow on Sunday in Osaka- apparently Shoma also invited Kazuki for the event and Kazuki had accepted the invite, but Kazuki forgot he had Kinki Regionals on the same day and almost the same time 😅 Shoma and Sota talked about it and they said they also watched Regionals on FOD including Kazuki's performance, before the talkshow.

Haha thank you for sharing this! I guessed only a mandatory competition would make Kazuki miss out on a Shoma event... Glad that Shoma and Sota were watching him!

I also read that today in the press conference Shoma started off by being very formal and calling him 'Tomono-san', but midway through switched to 'Kazuki-kun' without realising it lol

Another mention of Kazuki by Shoma on Fuji TV live alpha- he's second at his list of skaters to watch this season. The first one was Yuma because of his ability and Shoma chose Kazuki because "His skating skills are great, but he has the ability to entertain the audience as an entertainer beyond sports, which is very attractive".

Kazuki's segment on the news with footage from Kinki regionals:

Also if you want to watch the full press conference, it's up on Youtube:

❤️😭
I think I can speak for every Kazuki fan in this respect, we are just so happy and grateful to see Kazuki mentioned by Shoma like that - especially in the context of everything, being written off by the fed, not getting an autumn challengers etc, seeing Kazuki's quality recognised on TV, by Shoma no less, it's so encouraging 🥹 Once again I am amazed at Shoma's willingness to use his voice/position to give others the credit they are due, he is such a generous and honest guy.

Meanwhile, there was a Kazuki interview published by Nikkan Sports, it's behind a paywall but the headlines reads:
[Words from Kazuki Tomono] With his sights set on the Olympics this season, "winning is the most important thing" - Moving away from being a "fun skater"
#友野一希 came in second in the Kinki Championships. This season will be the preseason for the 2026 Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo Olympics. We bring you "The Words of Kazuki Tomono," who spoke of his strong desire to win.

and Paoz posted this stunning illustration of 'Tshegue'. I'm amazed, imagine being so talented!

With the deluge of information since last week lol I had forgotten to post this - Kazuki's Sauna Bros column was updated on Friday, showing his visit to Sauna Horizon in Niigata during the summer, whilst he was at the Hyoen training camp. It looks like a fantastic beach place, and Kazuki seemed to be having so much fun! I'm glad he got this time to relax, despite his busy schedule

It seems Kazuki was interested in buying one of their T-shirts, and because of that, they made the t-shirt available for purchase online. I guess he's into t-shirt with risqué vintage illustrations recently 😅

I think he can be both (a winner and a fun skater), if only JSF had his back. Keegan Messing won accolades and medals with Singing in the Rain and Chaplin programs, although like Kazuki, he could do serious programs just as well. But there are precious few skaters who really make such upbeat music shine, so I hope Kazuki doesn't move away from it completely. After all, selling it is one of his strongest weapons.

That illustration is lovely!

Daiichi Juken posted a thread with some interesting info about TOMONO curry (and curry in general) 🍛

The taste of TOMONO CURRY tasting, a story of recreation 🍛.
All the text elements of TOMONO CURRY's packaging are actually written by me, the PR person (I'm sorry to say that it's full of handmade elements 💦).
The reason I wrote ‘From children to adults’ is because I felt the spiciness of the sample curry we tasted at the tasting was moderate.

When the product was actually finished and tasted again, it did indeed taste like TOMONO CURRY and it was delicious, but was the spiciness stronger than remembered? Something is a little different? I tried to think of a reason, but could not find an answer, so I asked a professional chef for his opinion.

He said, ‘That's because curry is not a food that is eaten hot.’
What?

The reason is that when hot, the spiciness increases. The best temperature is about 70°C = the rough heat has been removed (the steam should have subsided).
Be careful not to let it cool down too much, as the oil will harden.

The reason why it is best when the heat is removed is that the ingredients soak up the flavours as the temperature drops, and the flavours blend together in a well-balanced manner.

I tried it immediately and it reproduced the taste I remembered!
During the tasting, you were talking about various things and the rough heat was removed!
They also recommend boiling it in hot water!

Please note that this is a personal feeling and is for reference only!
We hope you enjoy it in many different ways!

Quadruple Axel magazine posted a message from Kazuki - I read that his joint interview with Wakaba is super good, so if anyone can buy and read the latest edition of the magazine, go for it

Finally, the new F-sk fan club opened yesterday, and it seems that Kazuki is pretty active 🙀 He participated in a group chat yesterday, and today he posted a picture of his own home-cooked food! He also said yesterday in his Smile+ radio corner he enjoys doing domestic chores - whoever he marries someday will be very lucky to get a fully house-trained man 😄

I'm glad he seems enthusiastic about the F-sk project but hope he doesn't get too carried away with being a 'content creator', that can put a lot of pressure on his already hectic schedule

So... Kazuki continues his streak on F-sk, apparently he posted a practice video :love2: I'm starting to get seriously jealous of Japanese fans who can subscribe to this service! It seems that Kazuki and Kana are the most active there.

On a different note, Daiichi Juken Group visited Mainichi Shimbun yesterday! It seems they were delivering a seminar about real estate at Mainichi. Can't help to think of all these connections being built through Kazuki 🥹

and let me share this illustration of Kazuki and Sota, in their team Japan press conference attire! So cute!

No news to report today, apart from the fact that Nepela entries have been announced so it's now official that Kazuki won't have an autumn challenger assignment 😡

Meanwhile, I'll leave you with two calendars - the first is the Japanese fan book calendar, Kazuki opens the calendar with October 😍
The second is Kazuki's non-no calendar!
