Kazuki Tomono

When I started following Kazuki, back in 2018, I'd never thought I would be reading a Japanese real estate trade magazine article, but here we are lol

📰Media Coverage📰
The September 22nd issue of #NationalRentalHousingNews (web edition on the 24th) featured the life-size panel of #KazukiTomono, a figure skater affiliated with #DaiichiJukenGroup, installed at our INOVE rental store! ✨
Comments from our representative, Matsuo, were also included.

Pictures from yesterday's practice - he said the ice in the rink slides really well so he'll need to pay attention to controlling his jumps

Press report from today - behind a paywall but in the bit we can read, he says he's in good shape, thank god 😭
Apparently, there's something about him not being invited to the group chat? lol

It's still early in the season, so all I'm hoping he can get a better score than he did at Kinoshita

I had a blast watching Kazuki, and the audience were buzzing with excitement from the first tones! I thought he'd score 90 despite the quad stepout, and thought the judges were stingy because the combo and the axel looked alright to me, and he was spot-on music-wise...

Btw I counted Kazuki's banners, and there were 3-4, more than anyone so far. Pribably there were others that were in my section that I couldn't see. Most of the banners people were brandishing were just country banners, but Kazuki had several just for him, including mine.

Sorry about not posting more, my cell phone screen is inconvenient for typing, my hotel's wifi is super weak, and my own data limit is pretty strict :/
I'll post a thorough report when I return, but I'll pop in now and again.

I'll try to watch Kazuki's morning practice tomorrow. He should be in the last group, which is awesome.
:hap10:

Oberstdorf is the German skating powerhouse after all, with three rinks among others, they even boast "the best ice in the World":

Well, it didn't take long for me to make an ass of myself. I was regretfully sacrificing men group 3 to eat lunch in a restaurant upstairs from the arena, and when I turned around to see why it was taking the waiter so long to arrive with my bill, who do I see but Kazuki and Tatsuya sitting at a table nearby, waiting for their meals. So, after I paid, I decided to just leave my gift for Kazuki at their table, and tell a few words of support to Tatsuya, who has a bad skate. Well... The boys' meals made it to the table a few seconds before me, which made me feel like a massive a-hole for approaching them, and I wanted to be super quick about it... Which in turn made me stressed and I promptly forgot most of the phrases I had run through in my head previously. I am afraid I became a jumbled mess and might have looked like a proper loony, though both boys were very sweet and polite. I squeezed out a 'kamawanakereba', which was misapplied of course, because sensei taught it to me for situations when I approach a skater exiting the practice rink for instance. Not for situations where I am actually disturbing. I should have said 'ojama shite sumimasen ga' (sorry about being a nuisance to you), but I recalled that one too late, sigh. Or, I shouldn't have approached them. I hate disturbing people about to eat, but I didn't know if I would get another chance. Hopefully Kazuki will forgive me - I'll apologize if I get a chance

86.43 “I am so happy to be back in Oberstdorf. For me, this is the best ice. I think it’s the best ice quality in the world, anywhere. The thickness of the ice is exactly correct.I was so glad that I could come back here to Nebelhorn Trophy. It’s my third time here. I asked my federation to be sent here, and I’m so glad I did get the opportunity.I also always really like the fans here. They are very warm and supportive.About my performance today, I think it was about 60% what I’m capable of.About the song choice: Shea-Lynn sent me a list of around 100 songs as suggestions, and this was one of them. I listened to all the songs, but this one stood out for me from the beginning. I thought, yes, this is what I want to skate to, and I like it very much.My motto for this season is to fight.”(This was our first interview with Kazuki ever in English — he did that very well big applause to him!

@surimi Thank you so much for your reports! Don't be hard on yourself, I would have done/reacted exactly the same as you, or even worse 😅 It was a tough situation with the timing of the meal, but I'm proud of you for being able to leave the gift/exchange some words! Hopefully you'll get another chance to talk to him later in the competition

@kwanette thank you for sharing - It's amazing that he was able to express himself so well in English! Actually, Kyodo News remarked on the fact today:
Kazuki Tomono fires up the crowd: “Proof I've been practicing hard, I guess.” Handling English interviews: “I don't know what to say,” he says modestly. 【Nebelhorn Trophy Men's SP】

Meanwhile, this picture is frying me - the height difference between him and Gogolev is hilarious 😂

Yesterday's performance for those who missed it:

Kazuki skates at 3:41pm CEST today! Good luck!

Just told Kazuki good luck in the free, and so did my mom. I wish I had her nerves, she just spoke calmly and merrily in English, while I tried my best in Japanese.
I got an autograph, but I didn't push it with a photo. I'll bank on him being in the gala. You could tell he was in a hurry, just like Sota last year.

He didn't fall but skipped some jumps and had a few stepouts. Sota's practice looked similar last year and we know what happened, so fingers crossed for a medal! Go, Kazuki!

Good fight, Kazuki! Alright, he's won me over with Halston. His skating skills to such soft music look much better in real life than on screen. He skates big and powerful. And I could see his face as he whizzed by - he's IMO the best male skater in this field when it comes to expression.
What a shame his jumps were not working for him today, but I hope to see him tomorrow in the gala. IDK if he's invited yet, but it would be criminal if he wasn't.

Now if only we could see a video of the interview.

Wow what an opportunity. It’s ok!

@surimi glad you enjoyed Halston, although I must say I prefer V1 than V2

Ugh, I'm so frustrated, this was such an open goal that he missed 😭 Especially as he said he was 'too relaxed', HOW CAN YOU BE RELAXED IN THE OLYMPIC SEASON, KAZUKI

Sigh. The season is long and, in 2022-23 he flopped completely at Nebelhorn and ended up making the team. But he needs to get his act together ASAP if he's really serious about making it to the Olympics.

His performance for those who missed it - at least he got all level 4s...
