Menshov was a huge crowd favorite at Skate America in Kent, WA. I am so glad he will be here in the US again

Guys, I just finished updating Konstantin's OP. Lots of videos, of course!

However, please check it out of any errors and important omissions.

I don't recognize his music from his early programs. His wikipedia does not say what they are either...do any of you know?

Also, there is a Konstantin Menshov facebook. Is it legit?

Yes, it is his Facebook page. Not sure about the music...that will take some digging, but I'll see what I can find out.

Thank you for the update!

I'm not sure who he's competing against, but go Kostya! Same shirt as last season...is he keeping the same program?

I don't know if he's keeping his SP or not, it could be that the new costume is not ready. No offense to Masha but I hope he has a new SP this season.
Kolyada, Gordei, Dmitriev Jr, Anton Shulepov, Roman Galkin, Artem Lezheyev and Igor Reznichenko are the rest of the competitors.

Rotting Romance again...I'm a little disappointed that he's keeping it, I must say. Hopefully the FS is new, at least.

Here's a pro-quality version with lots of slow-mo replays. I will add it to the OP.

Although I would have preferred new music, I guess I don't mind him keeping this program. It looks like they might have complicated the choreo somewhat? I'm not one of those people that has everyone's choreo & layouts committed to memory, though. Not completely clean, but for his first competition after the off-season, I think he looks really great. His haircut even makes him look a bit younger.

Konstantin Menchov: I have no purpose to "survive" on ice Plushenko

Today, 26 August, the first stage of the Cup of St. Petersburg in the men's figure skating. Along with the young skaters in this competition participated candidates for the Russian national team, which start on the ice skating Academy named after Nikolai Panin was the control check before a ride in Sochi. On the preparation for the new season special correspondent portal TEAM RUSSIA-2014 Boris Jodorowsky said bronze medalist of the 2014 World Konstantin Menshov.

- It was very important to remember the feeling competitive, - said Konstantin Menshov. - A little bit nervous before going on the ice, to get together and show all that has gained in training. Even remember how to behave in the six-minute warm-up, it is useful. At the end of the last championship of Russia in Sochi I was not able to join the team. After that, the competition never performed.

- What programs will make its way to the team this season?
- Short did not change. I will act in the rhythm of tango. I like this program, and performed it successfully in the past season. Add something in terms of choreography of emotions she worked. In technical terms, it changed steps. Skating last season did not go. In summer, set a new, music for which he chose. The first time I will skate to a song with the words.

- How many plan to do quadruple jumps in each of the programs?
- I'll try in the short to fulfill two quads, one in the cascade, and arbitrary - three. Again, one - in the cascade. If you can fulfill them clean, a chance to compete for the top places in all competitions. I understand that the yield to Canadians, Americans or the Japanese technique of sliding. They are more liberated on ice. The only chance lies in the complexity of programs.

- Many Russian figure skaters try to go this route. He responds with current trends?
- Not only our children include in their programs for several quadruple jump. At the last World Cup with a dozen skaters went for it. All jump, everyone is trying to take the complexity.

- International competitive plans for the current season has already laid out?
- On the stage the Grand Prix statement in the United States and Japan. There can not be choosers. I take part in the tournament series "Challenger" in Oberstdorf. Then see what else to take the start. Some competitions exactly need to be on our toes.

- Before every season you see off to "retire" and every year compared to your "longevity" in professional sports with the experience Evgeni Plushenko. Do you want to definitely beat him, or at least to stay on the ice for a season longer?
- I have a very different motivation. I want to win, to prove to everyone that I can ride clean and beautiful. Tasks leave later Plushenko or simultaneously with it there. While there is the strength and desire to compete, I will speak. After gathering in Latvia and Sweden, I had some decline. Much in training worked. On the stage of the Cup of St. Petersburg performed a quadruple Salchow - already a small victory over himself.

- Bronze Medal Euro 2014 in Budapest gave confidence?
- With this I have for a long time is no problem. Last season was also confident in his abilities, but somehow it did not work in the long program. Before each competition something corrected, changed steps, seek the best options for visits to the jumping - and still not laid down. Now a new program, a new hope.

- Some specific targets for the new season to achieve?
- I will try to break into the national team to participate in European and world championships. To this end, and work in training, spending many hours on the ice.

Why so vague about the free skate music? Just to drive us crazy? I'm not entirely sure what he's saying about Plushenko here either...bad Google translation. :bang:

Thanks for the info! I'm relieved that apparently he wasn't injured. Perhaps, the new LP isn't fully ready yet, and that's why he withdrew after the short? Or maybe he hasn't regained the physical form for a long program yet.

TBH this trend of 2+3 quads rather worries me. I think very few skaters can pull this off, and nobody consistently. It also seems to me that it only makes them more nervous when they know that the chances of their delivering a clean skate are few, and consequently more mistakes-prone. I think that if he focused on doing 1+2 quads, plus his triple content consistently, he'd have higher chances of winning medals.

And although I think his SP could serve as a model for quite a few guys on how to portray unhappy love convincingly and movingly without sliding into melodrama, I still wish he'd started a new season with two new programs.

I also don't see the point of playing it coy when the fall and test skates are almost upon us.

He was asked if his reason to continue competing is the desire to beat Plushenko or at least to have competed for one season longer than Evgeny. He replied that his motivation is entirely different. "I want to win, to prove to everybody that I can skate cleanly and beautifully. I have no goal to retire after Plushenko or at the same time with him. I'll compete as long as I have the energy and the desire for it. After the training camp in Latvia and Sweden I wasn't doing well, many things didn't work in practices. At the Cup of St Petersburg I did a quad Salchow - already a small victory over oneself."

Thanks for the clean and understandable translation (I agree with Gallavich : google translation can be...)

I do agree : if some skaters tried once to perform 2 quads during their short programs, they haven't tried again since. Too much energy spent and risk taking before the free program .

Thank you!

If he can skate his proposed layout clean at age 32, it will be amazing. And I'll be even more shocked if the Fed sends him to Euros and/or Worlds...but his optimism is inspiring.

New FS:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqVB8yrobLU

According to Shazam, the music is:

Mad World by Adam Lambert
Radioactive by William Joseph
Radioactive by Lindsey Stirling/Pentatonix

Some Japanese fans on Twitter were speculating if he chose Adam Lambert's cover of Mad World specifically to make some kind of statement. I don't know...but I think there is probably some kind of story to the FS which hopefully he will explain later, like last season.

Konstantin Menshov: "For me, the beginning of each season - it's like working with a clean slate"

Russian figure skater Konstantin Menshov became the bronze winner of the tournament "Nebelhorn Trophy" in Oberstdorf. After an unsuccessful short program, the athlete was able to get together and climbed to the second position in the arbitrary, the result was third. About the past and start a new skate Constantine told journalist Tatiana Flade.

Congratulations on the medal. And the first question, why so late to come to the competition?

We get really long. I do not think it would be so difficult. Several direct - in Moscow, Munich, expectations, and even on the plane a strange man did not let anyone sleep. I really saw for the first time and is the first encounter with it. And then the bus back to grab ... In general, the trip was still the same. Every two hours, something was happening. But I'm glad I was able to overcome all this. Satisfied that won the bronze medal.

After such a move was hard to adjust to hire the short program?

Ready, set up, but it was hard. And during the actual rolling in my head something stuck slightly in the second stage did not go. I also got the start numbers - 4th and 5th. And I do not really like after a workout to untie, shoot horses. I like to go out a second or third order not to fool with skates.

In any program you have been declared three quads. Psychologically difficult to decide on such a step?

This free program I have is better than the previous one. It is ideally placed me in this program is very comfortable. Music Artist. Even in the second half, when almost no power, the music starts and it enables dokatat program on the emotions. Last season, in the middle of any program had to strain to complete. Now this is not.

P1380533

Previous long program, I have been almost a panic, and it is why we have changed. Music to me then very quickly tired of listening to her I could not. And here is another matter.

If we find the right tune, then made a new short. Although last year's short program I like. She is successful, and therefore left.

Rental in Sochi I skated without a quad. At this tournament, I tried to do everything. In an arbitrary it was much easier, though, and fell on the third quad, but it could go. Once rolled, then force there. Still, the work we have done a great summer. Until now training for OFP continue.

Can you explain the difference between last year and this free program?

Music is another, other steps. In this program, I do not convenient, so there is confidence.

And after the tournament in Germany will add confidence?

Of course. Every good start gives us a lot of confidence. And for me, the beginning of each season - this is the work from scratch. This year, the start was particularly hard because the summer was not involved in the show. The last was the start of the championship of Russia. Then quite a big break. Control rentals in Sochi, starting in St. Petersburg, but there I was just bowled a short program was still arbitrary buggy, and now Oberstdorf. Every event - it is a new experience, and they are always something to learn.

What motivates you to continue speaking?

Music, under which it would be desirable to roll the program, the desire to jump into any program plus three quadruple medal that can be won.

The next start for you will be a tournament in Finland?

Yes. In two weeks. Now we fly home, good, direct.
