Ladies FS

I can't believe they are giving Kimmie all 7s. They should show Alissa & Kimmie on a split screen doing spins,, spirals, Choreography, ect. Kimmie's skating skills are way elevated for what she is doing.

what? I thought the max. allowed triples were 7 regardless.
there are 6 different triples including the triple axel and you are only allowed to repeat 2. That means if you arent doing the triple axel the max triple you can do in the long program is 7, but theres only 7 "boxes" for jumps (for the ladies) and you have to have an axel type jump. Conclusion : If you want to do 7 triples you have to do a triple/triple combo or sequence

Can't some folks lighten up a bit? it was sort of a joke...

No, you should lighten up. You've been like a bear with a sore head cos you couldn't access the live feed, and come across as rude.

so can anyone please explain why doing two 3/3s would be more advantage to Kimmie more than risky? I strongly believe that skaters are not allowed to do more than 7 triples in a LP.. so why Kimmie would need 2 3/3s to win?

Good point. Was this a mistake or a crafty tactical move by the Hughes team? Since the new judging system is all about statistics - do you think the new way of coaching elite skaters is to weigh the odds of landing the triple combinations against falling, if the previous skaters tank on their jumps?

I'm pretty sure the duplication of jumps wasn't deliberate, Hughes just failed to do the combinations when she was supposed to. However, usually when you see this happen, say a skater is supposed to do a combination with their first lutz, but it isn't steady enough so they leave it off, the skater then attempts, at least, to tack the combination onto the second one. Because they know it's against the rules. But the result here, where it seems Hughes barely lost any points for illegally repeating jumps, really does bring up whether it would be worth a skater's while to just ignore the rules, because the penalty isn't big enough to offset the risk of going for the combination and missing it.

Kinda like how many large corporations deliberately violate environmental laws, since the fines are small enough to just count as a cost of doing business.

Anyway, on a more positive note, big thumbs up for the enormous leap Hawker managed with her FS - moving from 16th to 7th place. She can be really proud of herself.

If they toss out 7s to Emily, Kimmie certainly deserves 8s.

ok, so why doing 2 3/3s would help Kimmie then?

A triple triple combination would give Kimmie a higher TES and translate into a higher component score by the judges. If she doesn't do a triple axel and the Japanese women do - the 3/3 could help make up for that.

Cause if she does 2 steady 3/3, 3 more triples, 2 double axel and a three jump combination somewhere in there, she scores more points than 1 steady 3/3, 4 more triples, 1 double axel and a three jump combo included in there.

Stars & Stripes being played right now, Kimmie looks delighted, she is so much more grown up this year, 2 American Ladies have hands on chest for anthem, Joannie looks dignified, waving to crowd now, taking photos with Officials, wrapping up now......till Worlds, thanks to Eurosport for coverage...

2 triple-triples allow Kimmie to get 7 triples into the program w/o the triple axel. It also allows her to do an additional double axel.

I know that by doing a triple/triple would let her do 7 triples. How about doing 2 triple/triples? what good does that do? she would end up doing two triple toe jumps instead of doing two lutz or flip jumps. I thought that would make her TES go lower yet people seem to think that Kimmie would need TWO triple/triples in order to win over Mao or Miki.

anyone know what jumps Cynthia did?

It's a big mistake to dispatch Cynthia here. Her confidence will no doubt suffer from this experience. With no jumps, there's no way international judges will toss out those ridiculous close-to-7 PCS at Nationals to her.

I'm glad she's gone forever. I don't understand why Canada keeps on sending these 'pretty princesses' to international stage.
