LADIES LONG PROGRAM Thread

Akiko had a big lead can she hold onto first. Yes! Congrats to Akiko, Mao and Alena.

Congrats Akiko! Well-deserved! Great presence of mind by making the popped jump a sequence and adding a double to the salchow.

Don't like Alena's programs and her free skate was not good. She had good tech in the sp, but was way over-scored on PCS for her sp. She should not be in front of Ashley, IMHO.

What a wuzrobbed for Ashley! A case of the judges looking at elements and not at the complete programs and overall skill. Alena doubled some jumps and the program didn't have great impact at all.

Agree! Her PCS was hugely inflated... Her movements are so rough and unpolished.

Wow, Akiko wins! I would have preferred she won without those mistakes though....

1 Akiko SUZUKI (JPN) 185.98
2 Mao ASADA (JPN) 184.19
3 Alena LEONOVA (RUS) 170.68
4 Ashley WAGNER (USA) 165.65
5 Elene GEDEVANISHVILI (GEO) 160.44
6 Kiira KORPI (FIN) 157.53
7 Mae Berenice MEITE (FRA) 143.69
8 Agnes ZAWADZKI (USA) 138.19
9 Cynthia PHANEUF (CAN) 131.82
10 Shoko ISHIKAWA (JPN) 122.14

I have mixed feelings about Akiko winning especially after those mistakes.

Well, Mao had a HUGE mistake in the SP with only doing a 1Axel, which put her 8.13 points behind Suzuki going into the LP. This final result I believe is the right one. Neither Suzuki nor Asada (those two-footed landings; under-rotations; Lutz edge call) were perfect in the LP, but Akiko was perfect as she could be in the SP, the best SP by the women so far this season!

Not a deserved win for Akiko...she got the same score here as she did at Skate Canada when there were less mistakes and a better performance. It doesn't matter, though, as long as Mao wins TEB next week. I'm quite certain she will win as long as she just does a clean SP and LP and forgets about the Triple Axel. She doesn't need it to win (that goes for Worlds this season too).

Really disappointed with Mao's choreography though, sigh. The program was so beautiful at Japanese Nationals last season (her best LP ever) and the watered down version she has been doing since then really does not allow her to show what she is fully capable of.

Isn't Mao skating in Russia for her next GP? But I guess your point still stands, her only real competition there is Adelina Sotnikova, and Sotnikova has not looked as strong as she did last season.

Ugh....agree about the axel. Mao would've won if she went for a 2A in the SP.

I'm happy Akiko is happy and more recognized, but I would have had Mao overall in first. Of course, they have it as Mao winning the free skate, and Ashley coming in 3rd in the free skate, but Ashley's scores should have been a bit higher, and Alena should not have had higher PCS in the short or the long. How does Alena get nearly 3 points higher than Ashley on PCS in the free skate??? Wacko scoring.

I know, but I thought Akiko flutzed too today and she didn't get called. Anyway Akiko's story is inspiring and I am happy for her.
In the warm up I thought I saw Mao landing a good 3Lz from an outside edge and even though the one she did in the competition was a flutz, I thought it looked much improved and that she is close in fixing it. And she got credit for the 2A-3T from the first time in years, which makes me wonder if she can go for the 3T-3T in the SP
