All the Japanese skaters had a disaster of a freeskate.
Users at FSU are suspecting that once Takahashi caught flu, the others caught it from him as well.

WooooooW. Hard to believe but SARA ROCKS!!!

YuNa is a very lovely skater, and I can't help but think of her as Numero Uno.

Fumie, ya gotta believe, and she's telling you, she's not going away.

Why hard to believe? Sarah has been solid this whole season so far. Bring on Euros!

And Japanese press just reported that Miki is down with the flu, same as Takahashi. No word about the other skaters yet.

Holy CRAP!!!!! I feel sorry for the Japanese, don't get me wrong but I LOVE surprises!! wow!!! Miki LAST?!!?

But oh man, you bet they'll come back fighting at the worlds. So who won? Those are just the FS scores, right?

And yes, what's up with Meier all of a sudden? She seems to be holding her own here! Yes, I think without Slute or any serious challenger she has a shot at winning the European Champs.

Sorry, forgot to post the final results.

1 Yu-Na KIM KOR 184.20 3 1
2 Mao ASADA JPN 172.52 1 4
3 Sarah MEIER SUI 170.28 4 2
4 Fumie SUGURI JPN 158.78 5 3
5 Miki ANDO JPN 157.32 2 6
6 Julia SEBESTYEN HUN 142.69 6 5

While I love surprised, I'd rather they not include an entire team bombing. But I agree with you, Red Dog, that once they recover they'll be back and twice as determined.

So Sebestyen last is not a surprise.

But frickin' MEIER winning bronze?? Has h*** frozen over??!!?

I'm glad Yu-Na beat Asada, though.

Wow, this is second time that Sarah Meier is within striking distance of Mao Asada... I have to ask now, Is Sarah a contender for a Worlds medal?

Wow, Miki Ando's score....did she fall like 5 times?

Of course, even still, Sebestyen finishes last by a 15 point margin. :rolleye:

I just watched Mao's and Yu Na's skates and noticed that Yu Na does Sandhu's butt-spin (or whatever it is called) for a few revolutions.... it looks very pretty on her! But why does that girl never look happy? I think that is why overall I prefer Mao. She looks like a happy kid, as she should at that age. Yu Na has the look of an imprisoned princess waiting to be freed. As much as I admire her skating, and I totally do, I don't enjoy watching her.

I wonder what happened to Mao? She seemed to come back nicely from her first fall with a good spirit but it happened again. Is she coming down with flu too?

Ando has a stomach flue and she said she felt like taking a dump while skating.

is Yu-na old enough for worlds this year?
Yes.

BTW, there is nothing surprising about Sarah Meier's result by itself. Her point total of 170.28 is in line with her World's performance (170.47) and her scores at Skate America (169.01).

Ironically, it was her worst marks of the season (159.17) that gave her first place at Cup of Russia and got her into the GP final in the first place.

wow. Very courageous of her to even skate. She could easily have pulled out but she seems to be a trooper.

thanks. So Yu-na is definitely a WM contender. May even get gold if the Japanese ladies falter. I think Mao Asada is her biggest competitor at this point.

I wonder if Mao will decide to ditch her LP and come up with a new one for Worlds. This one has given her nothing but grief. I think the technical content is right on the edge of what she can do, but she knows she is supposed to be paying attention to the second mark, too, and it just all gets away from her.

Of course if she's sick, then that's another story.
