Ladies LP

Joannie should beat that, if not, something really fishy is going on with the judges!

Miki Ando
Carmen
Very Carmen-esque dress...you know what I mean

Quad or not, GANBATTE MIKI-SAN!!
Crowd loves her too
She is really into the opening choreo
3Z-2R, couldn't get the timing on the second jump
4S attempt, but bad fallout
3F, very clean and no lip
Combo spin, good speed
This is actually an excellent program, and she's really getting into character
Spirals, much improved
3R, lovely
3Z, lovely again
3S-2R-2R, great
2A-2R, good again
Flying sit into pancake, nice
SLSS, Morozov stuff, you know...
Combo spin, great speed and steadiness
Final combo spin, nice.

Ultimately disappointing, I guess, but definitely a much better impression to give to the judges before Worlds. This is the first time that I really enjoyed this program, despite the mistakes.

And yes, Miki falls behind Joannie with 177.66. Still much better than the fiasco that was her GP series.

That &*)#$ quad. All the same - a gorgeous program, beautifully done. She has really made it her own. Maybe she will peak at Worlds!

But looks like mighty Mao has bagged this one.

YAYYYYY, a silver for Joannie and very deserving! This can help set her up well for a realistic shot at a World medal if she can skate very well again in both the SP and the LP!

Congrats to all the medalists!!!

What a high-quality competition. Hope these skaters will be just as good or better at Worlds!

Good for Rochette....I'm telling yah, she, Ando, and Nakano are gonna make the bronze medal battle at worlds really interesting.

Other Surprises:

Na-Young Kim: WTF....Who would have known.....

Katrina Hacker: Actually not too surprise, I knew her strong skating skills and spins would put her in the top ten. But to beat out Bebe and Wagner with limited jumps shows how strong her non-jump elements are, and how much the judges DO appreciate it.

What's amazing is that the top 3 all performed very well, but not perfect, so they can build to worlds, where hopefully they'll skate the lights out! Mao can get the rotation on the 3toe, miki can do the quad, and joannie can hit that 3-3 sequence... Can't wait for worlds!

Alright y'all, good night!

Yes, a great competition. Wonderful skating by all three medalists and lots of the others. Congrats!

 ITA!

I still can't believe I stayed up for the internet pbp after the feed was cut off. Thank goodness I have a shiny new long weekend to recover in! Please, powers that be, let there be YouTube clips of the medallists (and Phaneuf) in the morning!

Great competition.

Mao was just beautiful to watch.
Happy for Joannie skating well. The Korean fans seem to love her.
Miki didn't have 4S this time, but she just looked happier than before.

Can't wait for Worlds!

Goodnighty everyone! I'm exhausted, thanks for all the play by plays . . . much appreciated!!:clap::love::cool:

Here's how I saw the last six to skate:

Bebe - For a minute and a half, she looked like a winner but then came the Falling demons.

Joannie - Has she ever skated better? Really happy for her and she was not intimidated. Hope she does even better at Worlds, and of course, her own countgry in 2010

Kim - Lots of potential but needs a lot of polishing up.

Mao - The high tech is so high; the spins are more than adequate, the footwork is simple, bur for me, no personality on the ice. But a lovely smile off the ice.

The Uzbekistan - Should not have been in this group. over and out.

Miki - Excellent jumps but I'm not with her presentation. The entire routine lacked any transitions, and also no personality.

JMO - and Im off to bed. Seeing Manon Lescaut tomorrow afernoon.

Oh btw, Two second tier American skaters made top 10. and with the top Asian skaters around. Maybe, maybe, maybe the Americans will get 13 points at Worlds. Canada may even get a medal.

Joe

3 spots for 2009 still alive

Although Ashley Wagner placed 8th here, the competition from 4th to 8th was really close and Phaneuf (7th) and Hacker (6th) won't be at worlds. It's also highly likely that she'll place above Leung (5th) & Young-Kim (4th).

I think Kimmie will come back fighting, plus she has the PCS that will enable her to have an okay performance and still place in the top 6 at Worlds.

I'm predicting a 6th and 7th place finish for the US Ladies.

I just wanted to say that the ladies totally rocked the house tonight and made this competition for me!

Mao - What can I even say? Amazing performance. She just floats over the ice, her musicality and expression have improved so much also. Joe might complain about her lack of facial expression, but that doesn't bother me when her movements are so expressive. Plus she sets the tech bar so high. I've hardly ever been so moved by a performance.

Miki - not great, but it's something she can build on for Worlds. She should be proud of herself for getting it back together after her two initial mistakes. She seems so much happier than early this year.

Other major highlights: Joannie  Hacker  and Na-Young Kim:love: Also enjoyed the performances of Yueren Wang, Gracielle Tan (who might not have the triples, but has very nice musicality), Cynthia Phaneuf and obviously Gizmazetdinova.

3 spots for 2009 still very likely

Hi, I am new to this forum by the way . I agree with Bruin714. We need to be a little more optimistic about our American ladies. we have been hard on them most of this season. I am rooting for Meissner. She has made a very smart choice by switching to Callahagn. Yes, Wagner finished 8th overall but she finished 5th in the long. Wagner had a very positive mindset performing her long program and she is very happy with her results. I must be among a minority that has a good feeling about the Americans at worlds. The only way they can suceed is if we stand by them and believe that they can do well at worlds.

That's the best triple axel Mao has landed in competition in about 2 years. I cannot believe she's not been with Rafael for the better part of 6 weeks. What a beautiful performance.

Now I feel officially sorry for Katrina Hacker. She is great, I love her style. Imagine skating so good at Nationals that you place in front of the last year's champion - even if that champion had a complete meltdown. But the powers-that-be chose that champion for worlds - but you get to go to the 4CC. Now at the 4CC you skate so good that you place in front of the ladies that placed third and fifth in the same Nationals. And I think that Hacker was undermarked in PCS. The whole situation has to be frustrating.

I think it would be fair to give Hacker the ticket to worlds. She worked hard for it, she skated well at the events! I didn't know that she had the Lutz, I thought she had only the three easier triples. She pulled off a solid 5-Triple performance today - the USFSA is not much better than the Japanese or the Russians if they deny her the deserved reward for all her work and effort.

Have you seen the great Spiral-Sequence? She got +1,43 GOE for it - overall 4,83 points...
