Ladies Olympic Predictions

No matter who stands atop the Ladies podium, I predict their score will be bat-crazy jaw-dropping HUGE.

ie. Continuing the lets-go-crazy scoring trend set by 2014 Olympics, and 2010 Olympics...

I'm rooting for Evgenia Medvedeva because she has the mentality an Olympic Champion must have, something i can't see in other skaters (even her teammates Polina and Alina), but i'm trying to keep my expectations as low as possible because the last two Olympics were crazy and unfortunately Korea has a bad history of hosted sport events.

It wouldn't surprise me even if Yuna comes back on stage to win the Olympics with 4 triples in her FS.

1.Yuna Kim
2.Sotnikova
3.Kostner

:hap10:

back to reality, I think it would be more like
1.) Medvedeva ...she seems unbeatable at this point
2.) Satoko will only get better and better and should be close to Medvedeva
3.) Osmond ..my wild card here even though I think it is more likely that the bronze will go to any of Kostner, Wagner or Gold

To be honest, Mao probably won't even make the Japanese team.

My prediction is that Mao's programs will continue to be highly beloved by viewers of figure skating as the huge response on youtube shows out of all proportion to her stingy underscoring just as the response to her Madame Butterfly at Worlds showed and even her performance last week in the Finlandia freeskate where all the women skaters had trouble with their jumps perhaps due to the fact that it was like an ice box in the arena with Mao having one of the best jumping performances despite the mistakes but incredible footwork, passion and footwork that to me was in another league. Considering Mao's recurrent knee and likely back injury and her unfavored scoring status I admire that she has the guts to keep delivering such beautifully intricate and artistically compelling programs. I wish her all the best in her quest to deliver legendary performances like her Sochi LP and Vancouver SP. But, I don't want to jinx her by making predictions especially since I value her performances much more than her official scores. I wish Mao would start her own touring exhibition like an extended Ice Tour to different countries as an alternative viewing experience.

I'm really surprised to see how many of you don't have Polina E. on your lists. Remember, the only reason she wasn't at Worlds last year was her boot problem. I still think Gracie has a rabbit left in her hat. Ashley is IMO, the US version of Maria B. so I never count her out. It's the third lady who I'm looking for. Mirai, Mariah, Polina, and Courtney. Along with several talented Juniors and it's just too early to tell.

You think it's going to be all-American?!!!

Too early. There are just too many skaters that could be potential medal contenders. This is just a hunch but I think Gold might do better than Wagner. The last time she was at the Olympics, she did a decent job. Also, she usually shines when the expectations are not that high and the pressure is less.

NOOOO!! I never count out Russia. Even during the years the ladies were having problems. There was always a Male skater in the mix and of course, Pairs and Dance were dominated by Russia/Soviet Union for decades. There are so many good female skaters right now and like Ashley, I think Mao, Carolina Kostner and Adelina Sotnikova still have a couple of tricks up their sleeves.

I think now we have many ladies who could win a medal in 2018 Olympics: Medvedeva, Radionova, Pogorilaya, Tsurskaya, Sotskova from Russia, Wagner and Gold from USA, Miyahara and Honda from Japan. It's hard to predict who will be in better shape next season.

OK. I was confused by your earlier post where you only mentioned American possibilities. I understand now.

If you asked me to pick at this very moment....

Medvedeva: Gold

Kaetlyn Osmond: Silver

Mariah Bell: Bronze

Of course, that could all change once the Canadian and US Championships conclude.

Mariah Bell? What?

Mariah Bell is going to beat out all of Satoko Miyahara, Ashley Wagner, two of Alina Zagitova/Polina Tsurskaya/Elena Radionova/Anna Pogorilaya/Maria Sotskova, and Carolina Kostner?

Well, you're bold, at least.

Bold yes, but not crazy. Who would have picked Nathan to be number 1 heading into Nationals. It's a long shot, but I like what I've seen from Mariah and that's why I'm going with her.
