Laura Lepistö injured

Wait, I still don't know where she's been injured. Someone talked about an old hip injury. So it's her hip?

It's not an old hip injury; Laura fell quite badly in August and hit her hip. She had internal bruises and bleeding in her left hip. She has been on ice again (my source has seen her practising on ice already 2 weeks ago) but she won't go to Japan Open. We don't know yet if she'll attend to Finlandia Trophy or GP's. Laura herself said in news yesterday that she has to be patient and heal herself with time.

I don't care if she doubles often. Laura is FAST, and she always looks so secure in her skating. When I watch her, I'm never worried that she'll fall or whatever. She's super pretty too.

Laura Lepisto has withdrawn - from Japan Open ... it will be intressting who will skate for her. Makarova, Leonova, Kostner, Marchei, Gedenavishvili .....
As of today Laura is still listed as a participant on the official website.
Are you sure she's withdrawn?
If the organizer can't get a substitute at this moment then it won't constitute the competition format.
Any news?

I asked the organizer TV-tokyo today and the man who replied said "We don't have any solid information that Lepisto has withdrawn. We know there are many observations though."
So I asked "Then, are you able to say she will definitely participate?"
He said "If you are worried you can't see her perform, then I advise you not to buy your ticket untill the very date of the competition itself, there are still some seats sold on site, this way you can be sure if she's in or out."

It was an article of Kiira Korpi in Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat today. There was also an interview of Laura, who said she will not attend Finlandia Trophy (8.-10.10.) in Vantaa. That means, she will not attend Japan Open either. Her first competition this season will be in GP series (at least she hopes so).

Oh that's a pity! It would have been great to see her at Finlandia Trophy. The injury seems to be quite rough. Like Kiira had two years ago...

It was quite bad, and she had to be off ice for four weeks, it's quite a long time. I understood that she wants to heal completely and also make her programs ready (she has a new SP) before she goes to competitions. I only hope she will be ready when the GP series begins.

Laura is such a textbook quality skater. If she fell in August, while it might be difficult, probably - I hope! - she will have time to heal and be ready for the competitions that mean more, the Grand Prixs.

Laura had to withdraw from Finlandia Trophy too. She said she doesn't feel ready yet although her hip is not much of a problem anymore. Also, she's having tough time with her achilles (an old injury apparently) and thus needs time not to risk the rest of the season.

I wish Laura well, as she is the only one to date that has ever reminded me of Sasha Cohen in terms of positions ~ I didn't think I'd ever again see a washboard back like Sasha's, but Laura has proven me wrong. :) Everything is e-x-t-e-n-d-e-d to the very tips of her fingers & toes, just like Sasha. And they both deserve high points for that alone. (:^)

I don't know of you already heard this but Laura won't attend to her GP competition in Canada. She is planning to attend Skate America in November. Probably she's not ready with her recovering.

Sorry to hear Laura will miss Skate Canada but thanks for the update.
Hope she makes it to Skate America and will be fully recovered and in top shape soon.

You can see Laura discussing her injury and training in an interview with Finnish news here:

She looks to be in ok shape despite the training interruption, we see her skating with good speed and landing a nice double axel. We also see her perform a sit-spin, which was a little shaky, but no major cause for concern. I think we also get a quick taste of the music she's using for her new short program, right at the end when she's doing her spin, and it sounds like a sort of Spanish-guitar number or something. I actually really hope it isn't, she's done the Spanish/Latina thing already with Don Juan, her current Tango LP and even the Mask of Zorro exhibition number, it's time for something NEW Laura! She'd benefit so much from a new, more creative choreographer (look what David and Shae-Lynn have done for Kiira, her new programs are easily her best ever!).

Berrycute, the music for SP is Besame Mucho.

I kinda find it the opposite. Laura's choreographies have gotten a lot of good reviews previously due to the fact that it's all very well linked and the jumps are placed in different sides of the rink, not just the "ends" (I have no idea how to call that) and the attention to detail. And the step sequences have at least so far been very challenging and demanding. And she has said this one is the most difficult yet! But I agree about the music although I don't want to judge before I see the program. I'd like to see her skate to something very lyrical for a change.

I agree - I always prefer Laura's choreo to Kiira's. Not sure who does Laura - but her choreo strikes me as much more original than Kiira and most Lady skaters.

I am not sure about all this praise for Kiira's new programs. I don't think she looks that natural doing all of the bendy, arm-flapping stuff we see in her new SP. I sort of like skaters that can show a straight back and beautiful posture. I know Wilson is a master at hiding shortcomings like this - but I didn't see this as a weakness from Kiira.

I guess it is the newest progression from the Cop that clean, crisp body lines don't count anymore and skaters showing a lack of posture, and alot of "headbanging" with too much arm flapping is what scores points.

Her main choreographer is Maria McLean but then her ballet teacher Mia Nirhamo (the sister of her coach I've read) polishes her programs.

Well the choreography itself is not what I take issue with, it's the music choice. Aside from the fact that I think besame mucho is a very tacky song, two Spanish/Latina programs in one year is coasting too much on one theme. I would have loved to see her tackle a classic, eg Swan Lake or Scheherezade, or maybe something by Sibelius, for the patriotic touch. I'm sure she'll perform this program very well, it's just a shame she isn't extending herself musically. Plus, and this is just my opinion, but skaters who consistently avoid classical music run the risk of looking a little...unsophisticated...

In general I prefer Laura's skating to Kiira's too, but I do like what David Wilson has done for KK. I mean, that SP Kiira did last year, the music cut was just so zzzzz, but now that Wilson has given her some really passionate music she's showing a level of performance I've never seen from her, and I'm very impressed.
