Madison Chock & Evan Bates

Heads up Evan!

I honestly can´t remember a similar issue from your side, which shows what a strong skater you are! Next time, will be perfect again and I still want to congratulate to a strong competition and progress over the past weeks since Nebelhorn! Without you guys, our Ice Dance world would not be the same ;)

Madi, love your smiles :luv17: Looking forward to the EX tomorrow!

Shame about the twizzles. They had such a strong performance at Skate Canada, and the SD here was fantastic as well. They've been skating with a lot of confidence. But they are fighters and always finish strong so I'm sure they will build on the many positives so far and be ready for GPF. I'm just sad we won't see them again for a few weeks. By the end of the season these two programs are going to be amazing!

It is sad that Evan had that twizzle mishap: they could have won this event easily. His on and off love-affair with twizzle struck again. They lost to the same team a month or so ago in Nepela Memorial. Also, he seemed not his usual self in this performance_ it lacked fire... He seemed to be just going through the motions ....

They have, artistically and technically, a challenging FD. I love it but I hope next year they'll try a much softer and mellower program. I like the W/P's FD this year _ softer, more mellow but richer emotionally. C/B's first FD as a team was beautiful - they're more at home with each other ... more mature now so a softer but emotionally richer and fun program would suit them well. They should stay out from the 'angsty' ... fiesty pieces. Try a different music much like their first one ... very much like V/M's Sochi FD music.

Fellow C/B fan, I respectfully disagree. They are pioneering something completely different, and I think "feisty" suits them (Madison especially) like a glove. I really love it, because it is something so completely different from anything anyone is doing, or has done, for a FD. They shouldn't try to emulate anyone else's style-they are forging their own and it's magnificent. I think the FD is still a work in progress, and I predict they will stay Silver and Gold all season because of it.

Congrats to Chock and Bates for their Silver Medal win and for making the
GPF, well done! To bad about the the twizzle mistake otherwise I thought they
skated really really well.

Oh, I like their FD to 'Under Pressure' but I find their earlier FD - the 1st one to Chopin exquisite and if that was skated to where they are now, emotionally to each other, it would have turned out really great. That particular FD sweet and mellow as it was wasn't like any of the teams' so I would not say if they do a similar one they'd be mimicking the other teams' styles. What I like about Evan and Madi is their being genuine and naturally expressive - Madi's naturally passionate _ a perfect foil to Evan's somewhat cool persona. As regards their FD, yeah, it is still a work in progress and they're definitely improving. Love the subtle details Madi conveys with her hand/arm gestures/movements. I love Evan's expressions - contained intensity/passion imploding. But this FD is a bit one-dimensional: what sets apart the French team's last year's FD was there were many layers to it (the Shibs' this year's almost parallels the French's FD last year_ I wonder if that was intentional?) allowing multidimensional expressions.

I agree their early Chopin program was lovely, and would be amazing if skated now with their experience, maturity, and connection with each other. However, I just don't think anyone is going to beat the French at their own game. They are just too amazing at this style, so I think the Under Pressure FD is a great choice for C/B now because no one else is doing anything of this type (G/P did unconventional last year but are more traditional this year). HOWEVER, they have to get their twizzles sorted because the field is too close. Continual errors on this element is really hurting them not only in competition but in terms of reputation. Evan's error here was so costly because it not only cost the Gold, but stopped the incredible momentum they had coming out of Skate Canada. I hate saying this because they are my absolute favorites, but they have got to figure this out so all their hard work is rewarded.

I don't believe the French is unbeatable in the style they're used to. There was a time when one would think V/M was unbeatable and D/W managed to beat them. They skated in 2014 to same style they used in 2010 and yet they got beaten by D/W. There was not much difference in terms of style in the way these two teams skated except that D/W tended to be more athletic and faster than V/M and this difference in athleticism was evident in their short dances. Anyway, C/B's personality would suit better in a style similar to their first. It is just a matter of choosing the right musical vehicle. Their first Exhibition number also shows how wonderfully this style suits them _ here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_Gcm6mg4bY
