Madison Chock & Evan Bates

I agree on the SD. I don't think they should back down from the difficulty, just train it hard, which we all know they will. I know Evan said at one point after GPF that they would be visiting Christopher Dean again to enhance the FD choreo, so I imagine that is going to happen right away before we get too close to Christmas.

Sorry for the back-to-back posts, but while I didn't think their FD was a sharp as previous skates, when I saw the score I definitely felt the judges were still penalizing them for the SD performance. Just my two cents.

Not even a C/B fan, but I got that feeling too. They had the same BV as V/M but were somehow nine points behind in the FD? Yikes.

Madi & Evan are vacationing together in Paris right now; they have posted some cute pictures on their instagram accounts:

Agree with everyone here. I was extremely 'heartbroken' for Maddie & Evan and for myself after the SD scores. I do notice with Ice Dance over the years now, because the couples are so close in terms of their execution, etc. and at times a real 'subjective' thing when comes to PCs, a slight mistake or bobble in the routine almost cause for the judges to put that couple down and therefore justified to put others above them. Hence, those technical elements like twizzles, lifts, etc need to be super perfect. An unfortunate 'fall' like this one almost gives the judges free reign to put them down.

I do agree with someone here who said they don't need to up their difficulty but rather make every element so super smooth and well executed. They do have a lot of difficult transitions already in this SD but just need to be so so super smooth - literally hours of practice. They did score high on this SD at SC and Rostelecom.

I agree too because of the poor results here at GPF, the judges at Nationals will mark them on a certain biasness, hence entering Nationals this year almost as second best in the eyes of the judges even before they skate.

If there is a hopeful note, I read in the GPF SD thread that next year's SD is going to be 'Rhumba', I don't know this for a fact, but if it is, then that would be super fantastic. I fell in love with Maddie & Evan after their 'Paso Doble' SD two seasons ago. These two are so so good with their Ballroom and Latin. Even last year's Waltz/Foxtrot was fantastic - the BESP British guys were putting them above the Shibs at last year's worlds. I can definitely see Maddie & Evan executing an extremely sensual/hot Rhumba!!

I remember Michelle Kwan once said, "It is not over till it is over". If they performed everything spot on and flawlessly at Nationals, their programs are strong enough to beat the Shibs!! Let us hope so.

what do you mean? together in the picture o they are together in a relationship? anyway, yes, they look great, Madison always looks beautiful but Evan looks very handsome in this picture.

I heard they are in a relationship. They've slowly been sharing more of their adventures together on social media. :)

OMG!! That is great!! :luv17:. You know, after the choreographies that Igor gives them it was an inevitable situation :p.

I am not at all surprised by this, as their social media posts & video/still images the last few months seem to have been pointing to this. It's an excellent development imo (if true) and I'm eager to see how this changes things on ice as well.

Also, I'm really happy for them. In their recent photos, they look very content and at peace.

Here is a link to the Ice Network pre-Nats teleconference with Madi & Evan (for those who have an account).

http://web.icenetwork.com/video/topic/213147480/v1219412883

Highlights (paraphrased) are:

They've made some small changes to both programs since the GPF; mainly in the FD they wanted to add a slow (a stop I think Evan said?) section that was more "tender and romantic". Wanted to add more tender & romantic moments to connect with each other during the program and let the FD "breathe".

They feel the fall at the GPF was a fluke thing but are not letting a bad event influence them going forward.

The Under Pressure FD this season was inspired by their struggles last season with all the changes in their programs, feeling a lot of pressure, which ultimately brought them closer together in their relationship with each other. Madi added that she thinks the message is universal, that everyone can relate to a time in their lives where they felt under a lot of pressure even though their interpretation is that it relates to their story last year.

They are enjoying skating more than ever this year, feel lucky to wake up and train every day, travel the world, represent their country. They are making wonderful memories together this season and hope to keep skating as long as they can.

They're in a very positive place right now and are loving the lives they are leading.

They appear to have broken up several months ago, she hasn't posted about him since April, and he deleted many of their pictures together.

I think they broke up after April. She posted her birthday greeting in April and she referred to him as "my handsome man!!!!! ".... https://www.instagram.com/p/BEv5TK8SDds/?taken-by=chockolate02&hl=en They look happy together but I think things changed after April. I hope Evan will be good for her if they are indeed in a relationship which I think they are. In a telephone conference two days ago Evan spoke about him being happy with his relationship and that they are getting close. He seemed to have quietly pursued her.

I'm not surprised either, and also thrilled. From their vacations together to just a little something different in the air, I sensed something the past few months.... even in their reaction to their stellar free skate at SC. I couldn't be happier for them ... Evan certainly seems to have proved that patience is a good strategy, as well as a blessing. :)
