I thought that was a great interview, I wish Madi & Evan would do more of them. I loved all the giggling, but fun aside, they gave some good, insightful answers to some great questions. It was great to hear in this as well as the print Ice Network article the other day that they are working hard on the footwork in both programs. Getting level 4's at 4CC & Worlds will make them strong contenders for the podium again. Also love that they think they have so much more potential and hope it means they will continue competitively beyond 2018. I would love to see how they continue to develop.

I second that. Madi was so adorable during the quiz at the end. So funny, endearing and natural.
Agree with this as well. Hope Madi and Evan stay happy and healthy. I look forward to seeing them skate together for a long time to come.

Wow, C/B in 3rd! I have to admit that I find their music choices this season a little uninspiring. 'Bad to the Bone' grates on my nerves and Madi's costume a bit tacky (I hate to say this but the more I look at her costume, the more I hate it). I like their skating though. These judges tend to be old school and music choice does make a huge impact on scores. If they continue on this direction, they will lose their 'magic' and placement. I remember the Aboriginal dance of the Russian dance team Domnina/Shabalin in 2010 - tacky/tasteless. They did win Bronze in Olympics that year but the dance came across as a bit controversial. I hope C/B will not try to be too 'outside of box' or innovative in their music choice and choreography just to be different next year: too risky and costly. After 2018, their chance to participate in another Olympic is slim.

The music is typically American so am not surprised it may not please internationally. Oy!! ( wonder how the judges would react to Johnny Lee Hooker's "Annie Mae" for example?
)Makes me wo.nder about Julian Yee's choice to skate both short and long programs to screaming Jay Hawkins.. oh well. IMHO C&B were the best, most innovative edgy, and true to the required dance form... looking forward to their FD.. fingers crossed the judges find something to like ..

With this judging panel consisting mostly of Eastern Europeans, the music would not sit well. I wonder how it will be in Finland next month (World Championship). I love the program itself and it was excellently skated but, my concern, is how it will be viewed upon vis-a-vis the conservative ones. Anyway, the scoring should have been pretty close but I don't know how V/M got away with that very high score, wondering? It seems the judges are making sure they'll stay atop placement-wise.

Thanks for the reply! Definitely comes down to personal taste... you made a astute point about Worlds; really really hope they do well in front of appreciative judges... onward & upward as they say! I will be toe-tapping and dancing right along with them til this SP's last breath!!!

Based on the scores, I'd say V/M will win this one barring obvious mistakes. C/B or Shibs will be fighting for silver. I hope, hope, it will be C/B winning the silver, :thumbsup: It's hard to overcome that 5 point deficit (from V/M's) ... even the 2 points gap is almost hard to beat. Still, I am hoping for the best.
Virtue/Moir had an overall great skate despite some minor problems. Appropriately, they got level 3 and not so great GOE (for their standards) on their partial step sequence, as well as not so great GOE on their twizzles. But they absolutely deserved the high PCS and GOE on the elements they did well. The not touching step sequence, the Midnight Blues pattern and lift were superb, they skated with great speed, and their performance and interpretation was also on point as always with this SD. So the high score does not surprise me considering that they got over 80 at GPF without the minor problems.

I thought Madi & Evan skated great last night. Wow, am I ever tired of seeing a big score in that TES box only to have element(s) downgraded by the technical panel when the final score comes out. Happened at Nationals and here again at 4CC. Very disappointing and you could obviously tell they and Igor expected a higher score. *sigh*
Hope they have an inspired FD just like at Nationals - would love to see them with a silver, then they can go off on vacation for a week and start hitting the training hard for Worlds.

Agree with everyone's comments here. 74 was hard to take when all the elements were executed well. I agree, even a 2 point deficit is hard to overtake, especially in Ice Dance.
The scores were exactly how I have predicted the judges would place them though in my heart, I would want Maddie/Evan sitting in 2nd right now. V/M would need to make major mistakes for anyone to overcome them and that includes P/C.
This is going to be my personal opinion - Rohene's ideas have always been a bit out of the box (which I am not a big fan) and the judges are mainly conservative. It is alright to get Rohene Ward to choreograph an "exhibition" number but for "competition" material they need to go back to real 'Ice Dance' choreographers/teachers. Maddie/Evan's 2014 Paso Doble and last year's Rach FD were choreographed by Antonio Najarro (famous Spanish dancer/teacher). Antonio also choreographed Javier's current SD to Malaguena.
Next year's SD is going to be "Rhumba", they need to go to a real Latin Dance choreographer/teacher (a lot of intricacies in a real Rhumba). Christopher Dean/Jane Torvill did a winning Rhumba SD in one of the Olympics. Maddie/Evan's FD by Christopher Dean did beat the Shibs at nationals, that is saying something. I read somewhere that Rohene Ward is going to be part of the team permanently, I am not so keen on the idea. Sorry, just my opinion. Maddie/Evan can do anything you ask them to, they need the right association and direction.
I am hoping above all hopes they will smash it with the FD tomorrow and take the Silver!

Leaving the scores/placement alone it was great to see them skate like this- with lots of energy and abandon and happiness 
I really think Evan in particular has improved the hip hop section. When I first saw it in the fall my reaction was OMG Madison slaaaaaaaaaayzzzzzzzz 
this, Evan isn't embarrassing himself, it's cool, everyone's eyes are gonna be on Madison as she slays anyway. Today there were actually times that my eyes were drawn to him and he was really into it.
Their hand holding in K&C was also adorable, must say.

As usual, excellent skate by Madi and Evan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pn8-1ooNbr4. Based on how the judges scored their dance, it will be a struggle in Worlds in Helsinki to get to 3rd place. Music influences the scoring process: skating judges are too 'old school' to welcome outside of the box choices. They have to go back to what's appealing to skating judges. The Shibs have wised up on what these judges like and they are doing what's expected of them. There will be a time and a place for 'edgy' ... avant-garde choices - they can use these in their exhibition numbers, not in competition.

Well, C/B were rated high by the American and Asian judges but were low balled a bit by the Eastern European Judges. C/B scored high with the American judge: she scored them a little better than the Shibs', and much better than V/M's. To be fair, the Shibs had almost a flawless skate - great twizzles everytime _ the best of the lot. However, there's not much 'emotion' in their skating - they go through the motions in a rather bland way _ kinda unemotional.

An inspiring FD from them... they were wonderful! But not surprised they were low-balled considering judging line-up... Few David Bowie fans there, I guess. This blues/hip-hop year was the time to do edgy and innovative in competition; they had fun with it, pulled out all the stops and succeeded on many levels IMHO. Traditional will reign in the upcoming Olympic year is my guess but C & B will surprise us even then. Can't wait!!!
