Maia Shibutani & Alex Shibutani

I was not in sync with the FD thread at all. I thought Maia and Alex DID skate their free dance with more abandon than before. I can clearly see their progress.

C/B's free dance bored me until the music picked up, and even then, the powerful music was doing most of the work for them. I really don't like their programs this year, and they are too similar to each other in feel.

I can see improvements top, but I think they were cautious, especially after Alex's skate hit the boards. I'm hoping a better version will come at 4cc.

I don´t know much about music, someone noticed the changes on the FD? Alex said they added more instrumentation to the second part.
In this video https://youtu.be/zI5_gtLyHWg?t=298 the music sounds really good, but I don´t know if it is only because the quality of audio is great or because the arrangements. I appreciated too much that the commentators were quiet almost the whole program .

My question is, did they really make changes?

I noticed the additional instrumentation, especially at the end.

The Shibs are going "viral." Their incredible short dance has had 2.9 million views on Facebook.

Well deserved exposure to these athletes who work so incredibly hard, not just at becoming world class athletes but in helping their sport regain a positive image and a broader audience appeal. So proud to be a fan of them as skaters, as champions and as people!

Wow, cool! I love their SD. The FD I don't love yet, but I hope I will at the end of the season. The Shibs have been so battle-tested by their rough years. They can probably handle just about anything by this point.

I love it sooo much. And the music of the second half is too much perfect. Too bad it is an arrangement and I can´t get it the same :scowl:. I love this youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/Gattokiller7/videos, it has music of many figure skating programs, I hope this person upload Shibs music.

Here's what I think it boils down to. C&B's FD is more "exciting" in terms of music choice and obvious athletic movement, making it more "fun" and possibly easier for many fans to relate to, while the Shibs' FD really appeals to people who appreciate pure skating and subtle nuances of movement. Unless you "want" to get the Shibs' FD by watching it carefully for the nuances, you won't get it. I think the same is true about Patrick Chan. Unless you watch the nuances carefully, his programs might not do much for you. I'm an uber fan of both Patrick and the Shibs.

Anyway, congrats to them on their second National Title!!! They were cautious in the FD, but the program was still lovely and they have room to improve for 4CC and Worlds. :)

That is amazing. The NBC Olympic FB page posted the SD video twice, so between the two videos, the Shibs have nearly 7 million views. (One has 3.4 million with nearly 33 thousand shares and the other has 3.5 million views with over 35 thousand shares). Their SD is by far the most watched video on the NBC Olympics page from Nationals. It goes to show you that one can succeed when they took a risk in choosing hip hop.

If the people of NBC have a little of common sense, they should promote them for worlds, after all, they are podium contenders, I understand the hype with Nathan but I don´t understand it with ladies. People on facebook loved especially the not-touching step seq. https://youtu.be/X7ESbW183-8?t=167, It last aprox 23 sec., a CM of 23 sec of this sequence as promotion for worlds would be great not only for Maia and Alex but the competition in general.

I just saw their video pop-up on my FB news feed. Turns out it was from a friend who isn't really a hard-core skating fan but is of Japanese decent. Her comment: "Nicccee."
By the way, the post was re-shared 35k times. Pretty impressive.

I also love that most of the comments I've seen on both videos (I obviously did not read the nearly 5,000 comments on both videos) were overwhelmingly positive. The people really love this dance and them in it. I tweeted to the Shibs that they should take a look on the NBC Olympic FB page, thinking they probably need a boost of confidence after losing the FD at Nationals, and they actually responded.

The Shibs programs this year are fantastic! It's great that they are getting so many views on their short, it was an amazing performance!

To me it means that they are clearly never resting on their laurels. They seem willing to listen to and incorporate feedback. They have a track record of successfully making smart changes to their training and their programs that sharpen their competitive edge. Their unrelenting drive as competitors is one of their most captivating qualities as athletes.

Another in the "Olympic Sports Revealed" series hosted by Maia and Alex. This time introducing SLOPESTYLE SKIING

Great news. We are lucky fans because even when they are not competing we always get videos, photos, updates, etc. :cool2:

YAY! It's set on my DVR! I hope they will continue to get opportunities like this!

Now we just have to get them on The Ellen Show!
Has anyone seen the "Average Andy" segment on there? Ellen's executive producer tries different cool things for the show - he's been diving with Tom Daley, has tried dancing with the Radio City Rockettes, and has met a lot of sport legends so far. Would be super cool to have Maia and Alex teach him to twizzle
