Maia Shibutani & Alex Shibutani

Yeah, and skating to something they are very comfortable with would allow them more time to work on speed, having more highlight moves, filling in some of the choreography, and making sure they don't lose levels in case they have a caller like Dostatni on the panel.

It's funny that Coldplay is on the way to warhorse status in figure skating (ok, not really—a contemporary rock ballad is no POTO). How you do it is as important as what you do, so we'll have to stay patient until we see the FD. Many programs I rolled my eyes at turned out wonderful, and sometimes radical innovation misses the mark. I mean, I love D/W, and their choice of Scheherezade didn't thrill me. But they did a wonderful job.

okay, the main petitions of people were: no lyrical, no la la land and not warhorse, this song is none of those, they are pleasing to most people

Yeah but I also want a song I personally like, haha. I don't like this song, but I'm warming up to it and if anyone can make me like it it's Alex and Maia. I honestly don't really like "Fix You" as a song either but I love their edit of it and "The Scientist" that I actually ripped it off YouTube and downloaded it on to my iTunes, so here's hoping for that. And plus after a few listens I can imagine where they can really soar with it. It's really bombastic and balls to the wall and a fitting end to their trilogy.

Speaking of trilogies, this reminds me of Dave Lease's interview with Tessa and Scott when he asked about their seasons and they explained it was supposed to be a follow-up to their Mahler FD but didn't quite work the way they wanted. Dave then said, "Don't do a trilogy." It's just funny to see Alex and Maia do one after that comment.

They've gotten particularly good at growing their programs over the course of a season. So that helps. It's night and day from the bad old days when their programs did nothing for them. This is just occurring to me—can we count on them for another quad? I hope so.

They have not said anything yet, and I think no one has asked them :scratch2:, but they still have a lot to offer.

I hope the Shibs continue too because they have a lot of untapped potential still. The US ice dance field will only get stronger and more competitive, but I know they have what it takes to be competitive with the best of them.

They are still plenty young enough for another Olympic cycle - if that is what they want to do. They may be more interested in pursuing their education and/or other career fields. They certainly have made strides in their social media/videos/etc. if they want to use that as a platform.

I know a lot of fans seems to be disappointed with their choice of song, but I honestly believe they must have put a lot of thought into this whole Trilogy concept, and knowing the Shibsibs, I'm sure they're going to be dancing to the best of their ability. Just looking at their instagram stories make me wince, I hope their hardwork's going to be worth it. I really want to see them win golds next season :luv17:

I hope they continue, too. I feel like they've really found their stride in these past two seasons, and they still have a lot of untapped potential. I would be surprised if they retired after the Olympics - especially if they get bronze. I think it would just whet their appetite!

I know, I hate when hard-working people do not get the results they deserve. I know that every elite skater work a lot, but Maia and Alex evidently are giving a extra. Simply the fact they have not had vacations in a long time says a lot, they go to NY, LA, Switzerland, but it is always for work. That is one of the things that sometimes makes me suspect that they want to retire, maybe they are giving everything now because they plan to retire after this season, I hope to be wrong :drama:

:noshake: The response to another poster trying to "cheer up" the GS board community with some positive off-season news about a skater(s) :laugh2:

It takes effort and shows leadership for Maia and Alex to be recognized by major organizations outside of figure skating. Impressive and nice to see.

I do feel that their 'mobility' serves also as their inspiration points or constant motivation reminders: they obviously became more 'open' to novelty in terms of style, skating, people etc. since 2015/16 season and they're now continuing on that. It's good to see them 'moving' and challenging themselves by working with different people, travelling, expanding their work, passion into broader ground and getting so much of 'outside' recognition. It's good to be a solid and valuable ambassador of their own brand, but what's even better is that they're great ambassadors of a sport, discipline in general. Hard workers, inspirational athletes, good, humble people.

And I don't want them to retire after 2018 too

Here's a YouTube link to Latin Ballroom dancer Jenna Johnson short clips that she posted on Instagram of her working with the Shibs:

You can hear some music in the background but I don't know if it's their music or not.

I love that position she's in during her and Alex's stationary lift. I wonder if Maia can replicate it.
