Maiia Khromykh

My opinion of arms over the head is very situational. WIth that exhibition there's this odd contrast of more mature presentation but the arms over the head just juvenilizes her and distracts from some of the good things she's doing in her program. Maya really needs to get rid of the arms over the head except for maybe the 3F. I wouldn't be saying this except that in viewing that exhibition I see more potential with regards to presentation with Maiia than I've seen before.

Maiia on her prospects as a coach (and eventually skater):

Maya Khromykh said that coaching helped her rethink figure skating.
Khromykh is 18 years old and a prize winner of the International Grand Prix series. The skater is missing the current season due to back problems and is currently training a group of children aged 4-6.
"I love coaching incredibly. For me, figure skating has probably opened up a different side of me in this regard, I have rethought a lot. I experience some incredible feelings when I see some kind of result in my students, athletes, little children and adults.
Who is more difficult? With children, it is probably more difficult, because they are still children, they sometimes get distracted a little, but we found contact. I treat them like my younger sisters. They call me by my first name and patronymic," Khromykh said.
On Friday, the figure skater performed in Irina Slutskaya's show at the grand opening of the VDNKh skating rink.
"There is always some excitement before the show. For me, this show is special now, because I am not performing this season. For me, this is a chance to go out on the ice, skate for my own pleasure and please the audience. Right now, I am training a little myself, because I am still continuing to treat my back.
Do I still think about continuing my career? Yes,” Khromykh noted.
