IIRC Harding's plea to "obstructing an investigation" was the deal her lawyers worked out with the district attorney to avoid more serious charges. There was some evidence that she at least knew about the planned attack beforehand. She made a suspicious telephone call to Boston to find out Nancy's practice schedule, for instance.

The prosecutor was more interested in nailing the actual attacker. Tonya, by pleading guilty to a lesser chanrge, got off with probation.

As to the "who and why," a good guess would be "her husband, because he was her husband."

My own belief has always been that the 4 guys who were actually involved in the attack all pointed a finger at Tonya for a lighter sentence. ( OK, I watch a little Court TV. ) As for Nancy's practice schedule, if I was trying to go to the Olympics, I would be very interested in how my competition was doing. It's one of those things that's only suspicious in hindsight.
