Mao Asada

Happy birthday to Mao Asada. Thanks for all the great performances filled with magnificent artistry and technical excellence and for inspiring a new generation of skaters through which your elegant influence can be seen in the skating rink.

I am interested in knowing which blade(s) Mao Asada wore before John Wilson Gold Seal (and Pattern 99), as I am looking into intermediate and beginner level figure skating blades.

Is anyone here also local to Tokyo, Japan? I'll go watch Mao Asada's "Beyond" show next month at Tachikawa Arena and was wondering if anyone is going too.

Mao announced her new ice show "Everlasting33", a theatre-style show to take place in June, which will include a live orchestra, aerial performances and tap dance:

Machine translation:
Mao Asada's third ice show, Everlasting33, opens in June. Asada's new challenge is now about to begin. Since retiring from competitive life in 2017, Mao Asada has toured two national ice shows as a figure skater: the 'Mao Asada Thanks Tour' and 'BEYOND'.

She has produced every detail of the shows herself, including cast selection, choreography, direction, music, costumes and tour merchandise, and has given audiences a shocking experience as a chairperson, which has moved more than 660,000 people across Japan.

Mao Asada's next challenge is a theatre-style ice show. Figure skater Mao Asada will go beyond the confines of the skating rink and create an ice show in a theatre space. The show will consist of all new programmes, from classical to film music, which Asada has never used in her career. An orchestra will line up in front of the skating rink, which extends out from the stage, to present a lavish show with live performances of all the songs.

In addition, the aerialists and dancers will take off their skates and perform a new genre of dance together. This work, which will be performed in a theatre, will be a high-quality ice show that only she can perform.

Mao Asada is now 33 years old. Inspired by the number 33, which is her age, and the language of flowers of 33 roses, she decided on the title of the show "Everlasting33". Everlasting means "forever". This work is an "eternal love story" delivered through Asada's beloved skating.

A work that can only be made now. A challenge that can only be taken on here. Welcome to a 15-day premium theatre-style ice show where you can be intoxicated by art.

It looks like the new show will be in collaboration with the skaters from Mao's previous tour, the 'Beyond', including Imai, Shibata and Tamura. In the previous tour they already did a great work with some numbers such as Swan Lake in theatrical/ballet format, so I don't think there will be too much difficulty to keep on with a new show as an extension from the previous tour.

Hopefully there will be some new numbers performed.

Mao at today's open FOI rehearsals:

She's going to perform a self-choreographed program to "Chandelier" (by Sia?) and collaborates with Shizuka, Kana and Andrew Poje on a Japanese themed program (including lifts), which was choreographed by Kana.

Mao, Shizuka and Kaitlyn backstage:

Mao’s own ice rink ‘Mao rink’ is close to finish. An opening date is set on Nov. 11
Announcement in Japanese

The rink is located at Tachikawa city, about 1 hr from Tokyo. I’ve been to the city for Mao’s ice show during the early summer. It’s definitely a lovely city.

The rink is of standard international competition size, with a sub rink set up. Obviously, it’s aiming for hosting future international events as well.

Congrats to Mao of realizing her childhood dream of having her own ice rink.

Here's a short video with English subtitles, showing the facilities and a glimpse of the opening ceremony/performance - a brief interview with Mao is also included:

The flower arrangements, where the camera stops at 0:29, are from Kana, Dai and Shizuka.

This is a longer video of the opening performance feat. four adorable kid skaters and Mao's speech 🥰:

Mao-chan accepted Dai-chan's invitation to be a guest on "Poka Poka", the variety show on Fuji TV, which is co-hosted by Dai on Thursdays (she appeared on the show last Thursday, December 5th). They related anecdotes about the Vancouver Olympics closing ceremony (where Mao was so exhausted that she fell asleep 😅), dancing together at competition banquets, their driving styles, house cleaning habits and many other fluff topics. Mao also got to demonstrate her kickboxing abilities live in the studio and talk about "Everlasting33". 😊

If I understood correctly Mao's skating boots, she wore in Sochi, were auctioned off for / were estimated by an expert to be worth 2 million yen! 😲

Her sister Mai also joined about 26 minutes into the show. I uploaded the episode on google drive:

I guess, as fans already know, Mao is part of the Stars on Ice Japan lineup for the first time in 9 years, where she will perform an adapted version of her Bolero program from Everalsting33.

She will also collaborate with Daisuke on a duet choreographed by Kana Muramoto:

There was a short tv special today that took a look at the duet, including an interview and a brief look back at Mao's and Dai's careers:

As fans noted, the song they are skating to is "Silhouette" by Aquilo:

In other words, it looks like Yamato Tamura's wish for a Mao x Dai collaboration under Kana's "direction", as he half-jokingly mentioned when Kana and Dai attended one of the performances of Everlasting33 together, is now coming true 😊:

Kana-chan and Dai-chan went to see Mao's show "Everlasting33" at Tachikawa Stage Garden yesterday  (I had a feeling that they would go after Hyoen's conclusion; they went to "Beyond" together as well):

Translation of Yamato's comment:

Thank you for your hard work in Hyoen.
I would like to see a chairperson's group.
If that comes true, Kana will train them. lol
