Mao Asada

Masquerade Waltz wouldn't have been on my request list but I LOVED that russian waltz opening! Does anybody know if her requested performances will vary during the tour?

Can't wait for the rest of the shows and footages. I was expecting a lot of dramatic fluff on Mao but it's still a shame so many programs were cut.

Thanks everyone for the links and roma for the another report. It’s always fun to hear viewers' impressions who went to ice shows and competitions so thanks again.

Here are some awesome photos from The Ice and recent magazine.

Thanks for the links yhmafan. Talk about a million dollar smile, that's what I see when Mao smiles.

Thank you for all the updates! And @roma, thank you again for your detailed comment!

I especially love Por Una Cabaza, just love it. Her stepwork is always wonderful, which feels light like air. The combination with Jeff becomes more perfect. And her costume!

Thanks always @yhmafan, for lovely photos. I like her in the one-piece dress, which really suits her natural beauty.:)

From last night interview, Mao said she might stay as long as 4 years (I assume until Olympics) until she reaches her goal.
She mention something like "I only live once and (within my life) my skating period won't be too long. I've come to understand that since I am able to skate like this now, I can't just stop right here. If it's only for another 3-4 years, I'll do it until I feel satisfied."

She also said that her feeling right now is really calm, totally different compare to herself before where she feels training as an obligation.

Every Mao's fans in Japan has start planning on their "mao-savings" after they heard this interview
I'm really happy that she has decided her mind. Now I gonna plan my way to Pyeongchang and start saving money;)

someone knows how much did it cost a ticket of ladies long program at Sochi?

I just saw the clip in discussion, and I must say I love the style. It's an interview by NHK, and there's no hyping of Mao as a celebrity or idol. It just presents her as an athlete hard at work. I hope other networks will take notice!

In Sochi it was around 4500 yen to 70,000 yen.

The price will range according to the popularity of the sports. ofc, Winter Olympics is not as popular as Summer Olympics (I know even the cheapest seat for Aquatics event in London costs like 100,000 yen)
In Japan they have a travel agent that arrange a special tour package to watch the Olympics. Last time to Sochi for 6 days it costs about 1,3 million yen (incl. airtix, hotel, bus, fs tix). But I heard if you can arrange everything by yourself it will be a LOT cheaper.
Pyeongchang is very close to Japan so I am sure there will be tons of Japanese fans come.

There's a chance she could go to another Olympics?! *GOGGLE*

That would be unimaginably awesome.

But I thought she said before, that she was done with Olympics and didn't want that? Maybe she will change her mind?

Well, whether she goes to the Olympics or not... several more years of seeing her compete is fantastic news...

Going to Olympics might be an assumption but all this time I always think that's the only thing that stop her from retiring. But we won't know, I mean she didn't directly said she wants to go but another 3-4 years sounds like Olympics for me.

Yep, will be a very privilege for us to be able to watch some more good programs from her :)

What a competitive fire she has, I hope she stays healthy over the next few years and has another great Olympics. South Korea is so close to Japan, the Japanese fans must be ecstatic

Thank you, it does not look sooo expensive, but I guess will be difficult and costly to find hotel and flight

Thanks for the information figureskateobasan. I am amazed and so excited that there is a good chance that Mao will skate for another 3 years, but I don't like to focus on the Olympics because there will be so many more performances and competitions other than just this, and she hasn't been scored fairly in my view in either of her trips there. The most important thing for me is the great and entertaining performances that Mao gives that will live in my memory.

I really liked Mao's Puttin on the Ritz performance. I adore Mao's long extended fan spiral (which I don't see much these days) with the cane behind her back and the high leg kick up to and over her head after the 3 Toe jump (I believe that was the jump). I also liked the side straddle skating which was a nice transition into one of her triple jumps. I heard Mao did the performance clean in several of her shows, so I hope I get a chance to see it like this. I also really like her expressions, fast dance steps facing the audience and her jump with the cane in both hands. To be honest, I thought her joy and carefree whimsy were infectious. I also feel like I am watching a musical from the 1940s because her acting out in the performance seems like a genuine reflection of that time in Hollywood, with Mao giving her own take on it.

I admit I like Puttin on the Ritiz routine better than the costume because I think it hides Mao's beautiful lines and extensions and makes it more difficult to maintain her jump consistency and fluidity of movement because of the heavy costume. Even though I love Mao's boots and the colors of her Puttin on the Ritz costume, I would like to see her wear a dress similar to the beautiful one she wore in the jazz number Sing Sing.

But, I love the routine itself and even the cane and bowler hat. I like the addition of props for Mao, especially the innovative use of the fan in her Caprice exhibition.
