Mao Asada

Sending nothing but positive vibes towards Mao! :hap85: :cheer: I'll be asleep during the ladies SP, but I look forward to watching her performance right when I wake up!

It's 3AM and I just got home so might as well just not sleep since it starts at 4AM for me, the things I'd do for Mao:love:

Not yet perfect... Even the last spin is only a level 3 but it will only get better from here. She went for it... No popped jumps. A bit tight but still being able to perform like that after almost 600days from her last SP... *respect*

So much respect for Mao. The program layout is insane, but that's her goal! Still lots of room for improvement, but to go out there and throw it down like that!
I thought I would never see a 3A, 3Loop combo and a 3Lutz all in one SP program, but here it is!!! Just amazing.

I loved Mao's SP performance: smooth and lyrical with beautiful spins. Such magnetic flow and effortless swift gliding across the ice with ideal spin and beautiful air positions in her jumps. The best and tightest donut spin I have seen drawn out slowly into a variation on a Biellmann transitioning seamlessly into slow sinuous steps and charming shoulder shakes in the middle of her performance that brought screams from the audience. She also had a picturesque sit spin with her unique ability to extend her hand all the way out over her skating boot. Then, there was the smoky and syrupy flow of her tear- shaped Biellmann spin into the beginning of her scintillating step sequence with loose, fluid and rhythmic movements and that dash forward towards the crowd with head thrown back. So classy and mesmerizing! Most of all, I am glad she was so satisfied and joyous about her performance because her return should be mostly for her. Her beaming smile was priceless. She put her heart and soul in it and it was true entertainment to watch.

The Russian broadcasters on the video I am posting said in real time that they thought Mao's 3F / 3L was rotated in their eyes. On instant replay, they did say they thought the back end of her 3F / 3L might be slightly ur'd. They called her triple axel rotated on instant replay and they even thought Mao's lutz had a much better edge on the lutz than she was given by the tech crew. They complimented Mao's mature presentation and Lori Nichol's choreography. When Mao finished they said that they seriously thought she had a great chance of breaking her world record. After looking at instant replay, they said that if Mao had rotated her 3F / 3L, she would have broken the world record.

I also feel Mao's PCS were too low given the generous scores that were given out this year in other competitions and the deflation in scores that Mao was given even in comparison to her Nocturne LP performance. Mao's high level of skating skills, musicality, interpretation, choreography and seamless transitions deserve more and, like the Russian announcers, I also believe her tech deductions were too severe. The way I see it Mao's scores were deflated. I don't take the scores seriously.

Such an inspirational performance Mao.

Yes, Mao's scores were pretty low but on replay that loop did look UR. The 3A was good if only the landing was better. But at least she got it all out of her system... That matters more tonight. She was able to do it tonight she can do it again and do better next time with more confidence.

The PCS is another matter. Too low. But then it was the same for everyone so it's ok. I think that here in CoC the scoring is pretty much grounded compared to the overinflation we've been seeing recently.

Hopefully at NHK Mao will skate that pro with more attack... she looked still a bit tentative here. But for her free I hope to see a better cio-cio san!

I still think the tech scores were too harsh consistent with the commentary of the Russian commentators in the video I posted above. Also, PCS scores in one competition have consistently been used in the past as the precedent for future scores, so that those who benefit from high scores in one competition often continue to do so in the future, while those who are given lower scores tend to continue having deflation. Besides, what scores would have been given to the skaters in the final group if they had all skated clean? I believe Mao should have a considerably bigger PCS advantage than all the skaters who have competed through this Grand Prix season.

I am so proud of what Mao put out there today. It was beautiful, so happy she is back. The judges can go somewhere, I don't care.

By the way, I know Mao was just trying the layout to see what works, but Mao Chan please let go of the 3Lutz on the SP, you don't need it for another world record. However, I am ok with trying it for the GP circuit, but by worlds, let go of it Mao you can do.

True that... I feel like her PCS should not be below 35 so the one she got here is a big disappointment when others can get more straight away. PCS scoring should be standard throughout all the competitions and not have some hand out huge ones which get counted while others are pretty grounded. But in FS for years now, despite the titles, the records and an olympic medal her PCS has never really been that high even with that WR at Worlds. Caro can get pretty damn high (but for those instances I can totally agree). 34 was the range she got in 2013. From what we saw she's definitely better than she was then. She better be scored properly at NHK (Satoko, too).

Lets see what she'll get tomorrow. I hope it'll be better than that 69 at JO. To those saying she was overscored there... just look at the other competitions and compare. She was definitely underscored.

Mao is a three-time world champion. How can somebody forget that? :noshake:

I become happy because she was able rotate and land a triple axel :clapper: and her dress was beautiful! Great comeback!

hey guys long time no see
so happy for mao tonight what a wonderful perform ens
n the technical score go way down from 44,60 to 44,50 and at the end became 37,08
that was like 7 point

who is Reiko Kobayashi,
why they write her name as mao coach after Nobuo Sato n Kumiko Sato

Glad to see you posting again bebece. I was shocked by the harsh tech deductions, low GOE and low PCS score, and it sounds like the Russian announcers I cited in my last post were surprised by the low score as well.

The most important thing to me is how happy Mao was after her performance. Here is what she said in translation:

"It went just as I pictured it," Asada said. "I was nervous before I started. I wasn't able to skate that well in practice and just tried to use the nervous energy to my advantage. I hope I can carry this momentum over into the free program."
