Mao Asada

Here's a hq video if you don't have problems with Dailymotion.

The costume was more bare looking than I expected. The pants under the skirt have stripes too. The program looks interesting from the little I can see and Mao is looking great.
I reminds me a bit of Rika's SP dress for this season, probably due to the dark colours and style. But she looked very lovely and beautiful. :) I look foward to seeing a full video of the program.

I'd like to see her costume concept to be somewhat like Katniss' girl on fire costume in the HG series considering her FS will be the red version.

Saw the final show in Nagoya today!
Mao is looking very, very strong. Her SP program is awesome and fantastic. Fantastic strength and speed to her skating and her body movements were much more defined. She was projecting very well---the best I've seen from her. I am soooo looking forward to seeing her perform it in season.

Besides Mao, Jason Brown stood out for me, and of course, Patrick Chan was godly, as per usual.

 (you are lucky one, as for Jason, I could imagine that it must be even better to see him in person.)

Mao's SP: consummate beauty in her movements and dress with the choreography executed so elegantly and athletically that matches the mood of the music wonderfully. I really like the mix of the black feather like design with a lot of illusion fabric. It compliments Mao's figure marvelously and gives her great freedom of motion.

Arrrggh, I was hoping it was the full version when I saw your post :(. When can we expect it? After 14 August broadcast?

Waiting for videos from Japanese shows is like: https://66.media.tumblr.com/e454ebe8c774c07af57b9c4a8534c591/tumblr_inline_mjiaacVNNz1qz4rgp.gif

Yes, we'll probably have to wait until 14 August :(

Blasphemy! :angry1: ;)

I love Ritual Fire Dance (and entire El Amor Brujo) Back in June when fans at FSU were trying to guess Mao's music, I "guessed" El Amor Brujo: http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/ind...her-biggest-weapon.95911/page-30#post-4814241
Later I was thinking of another pieces of music that would fit the description, but there was nothing that I loved as much as El Amor Brujo, so I didn't try to guess again... Imagine my surprise when the music was announced XD

I like the SP dress, too. It looks like it was designed by Zuhair Murad, one of my favourite haute couture designers (I posed a couple of references here: http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/ind...her-biggest-weapon.95911/page-33#post-4842255). I's change the top a bit (so the feathery bits wouldn't form a 'bra'), but that's a minor nitpick.

I was there, too! I agree that she is looking very strong and more refined (and Patrick was godly:love:).
Mao and her new grogramme were fantastic , but the rink was too small for her, wasn't it? She must have wanted to skate bigger and faster.
So I expect this programme performed in a full-sized rink will show a different face to us while it has already given an amazing impression.
Also 3A will make a great impact. The timing of Axel in the programme was just perfect.
I'm looking forward to seeing this SP and new FS in competitions.

We were very lucky to see it!

I agree the rink was too small for her. You could tell she had to slow down at times because she was running out of ice.

I got the same sense from Shoma's lavender performance as well, which, incidentally, was also great. Shoma appears to have grown taller during the off-season, and it seems to have made him a more complete skater.

So glad to read some comments about Shoma's SP. He's my favorite, and I haven't really heard too much. Did the lavender color shirt seem to suit him?

More and more people are remarking about the small rink size. I noticed right away with Taka's flamenco (when he first did it) that his jumps are so big that he didn't have enough room. Seems like the same was true for Mao and Shoma. Shoma's jump combination of 2A, 1/2 Loop, 3F needed lots more ice!

Ummm. Well, it was very lavender. It suits the theme of the music and due to its association to Mao, I found it totally normal that Shoma would be dressed in lavender (with black bottom with some glittery highlights). Shoma has an angelic, boyish face which makes it work for him, I think.

I went to the show without having any prior knowledge, and only after seeing it, realized that I had just seen Shoma's SP, so I was not keeping track of the jump passes very carefully, but I think Shoma might have done 3 or 4 flip (under-rotation) and 3 or 4 toe-loop (double-footed) (may have been vice versa)---I tend to think both attempts were quads, though it's actually hard to tell---and his final jump pass was triple-axel. He is definitely planning for two quads, though, and it was impressive that he could even attempt these jumps under show light and small rink.

Plus, he was skating very well, too, so I got the premonition that we might even be seeing the next gold medalist, World or even Olympics. He seems really injury-free at the moment.

Thanks for taking the time to write that info. News is very slow right now, but hopefully we'll see something soon. I was hoping maybe for a fan cam, but no luck.

I wondered if maybe the lavender color would be too "girly" and if he would use a different color purple. They are probably still in the process of figuring all this out. Last year at Shoma's first competition at US Classic International, he used completely different costumes than the ones he used for the rest of the year, so we'll see what happens.

The two times I've seen him live (Skate America and Worlds), his speed is so amazing on a full size rink...Thank you again for your report!:thank:

Fan cams and taking pictures during the show are big no-nos in Japan. They are supposed to be airing something on the 14th so hopefully we'll get to see the full pros.

I can understand that. It's very distracting, and flash can be a safety issue. Oh well, patience-patience! :hpull:
