I believe it is a custom or popular practice in Russia for the parents to wait to show the child until he/she is about a few months old. I remember when Irina Lobacheva and Ilia Averbukh had their son and we didn't see his face until he was at least 1 year old.

It is not so much custom as an understandable superstition - evil eye and all. I wouldn't want strangers staring at my baby either!

Maria is one of my fav skaters. She, Michelle and Lulu were the great artistic skaters of the 90s (and not just of the 90s). I miss those three skaters.
