Marin Honda

is there any translation?

It's honestly so boring an insubstantial I doubt you'd get anything out of a translation! I can't believe they followed her for three and a half years and made a 45 min special about her and had so little to say. She says she wants to go to Olympics, her coach mentions she gets distracted a lot during practice and that she doesn't like doing spins, the narration says she loves attention and the camera and has great talent. They follow her through her defeats in the GP series this year but doesn't delve into why or how she feels about it, only that she didn't do well, and then they show her fail at nationals but again, doesn't talk about why or how she feels about it. Even for boring Japanese TV specials, this was another level of boring.

 it just looked like an interesting documentary for me, but i dont understand anything there. Thx for the summary!

I wonder if perhaps it would be beneficial for Marin to go train abroad, where she wouldn't have all this media attention? I think it can be distracting for her and also put a lot of pressure on her shoulders. I don't know, just a thought! She clearly has a LOT of potential but at the moment she isn't really competitive against the top skaters.

It's interesting to see behind the scenes, and in the second video, we see a foreign coach trying to explain how to improve on the dramatic performance. But I just feel like I see a big difference with Eteri + staff/Evgenia, for example; you can feel the distance with the guy, you can even imagine that she doesn't understand everything you explain to her. After that, it's only a small part of it, but still...
Marin had worked with foreign choreographers Tom Dickson, Marina Zueva and Jeffrey Dickson very successfully before. She also went to several training camps in the US. Mie Hamada speaks English very well because she lived in the US for a while. I really don’t think the language barrier was the reason why the collaboration with David Wilson didn’t work out.

David Wilson has said that choreo/skater relationship takes longer. This is the first time they worked together and I think she only got to visit him two times for Turandot. Even if he's a highly paid choreographer, it doesn't mean that it automatically works out.
IMO Marin was successful with Dickson, Zueva and Buttle from the first time they worked together because they actually cared about Marin’s talents. They created choreography that accentuated her bubbliness, charm, smile, elegance and edge quality. With David Wilson, all I see his own vision but little regard for Marin. The choreography never felt inspired to begin with, many people said it’s a carbon copy of Yuna Kim final program. They way David wanted Marin’s upper body to be was a complete departure from anything she had done before. He really didn’t seem satisfied with her interpretation (timing, expression) and she could never improve from her first outing of the programm at the summer shows.

Last of Part 3 breaks my heart. If there's a disconnection she has with Hamada, I hope she can start fresh.

I think Marin would do well to continue with David Wilson, tbh. I thought her Turandot was lovely but suffered by mid-program because of some lack of stamina. Wilson's choreo usually requires pretty strong attack, especially with a program like Turandot which builds toward the end rather than mellows out. If anything I would go to a different coach to improve her jump strength/consistency.

Also, was her Nationals FS ever posted on Youtube?..

She could really benefit from training abroad and "escaping" the buzz around her: Yuzuru, Yuna, Mao blossomed the minute they left their home country. Yuna and Mao came back once they had the maturity and experience to deal with the craziness, but when they were younger I'm sure once in a while being able to forget what the world expected of them helped them to focus better on their training

yes yes her team better be talking to a specialist rn to amp up her stamina.
I guess we'll have to wait and see who Marin will stick with next season. Now she can take some risks and has plenty of time to decide. Everyone will come at me for this but I lowkey want LC+TJ 2.0

I happened upon Ms. Honda's performance @Cup of China on YouTube and became an instant fan. She is a rare combination of technical skills and musicality, I was totally captivated by her performance. As a matter of fact I made an account in the forum just to comment on this thread how amazing she is!

What‘s LC+TJ?

I think Marin should do what Yuna did. Yuna escaped from Korea and went to train in Canada, where no one knew her. Canada would be a good place for Marin.
I also think she needs a serious coach to train her on the condition that she works harder.
Marin is a hare among turtles, but she has lost so much time that the turtles overcame her simply by working harder.

Marin just skated the worst I've ever seen her skate  She missed 1st jump pass, did 2A and *2Lo-2T (invalid). She still looked beautiful on ice (it's impossible her not to) but she looked so tentative, slower and less bright than usual. I'm worried that she may give up on skating or have double career like her sister (I know I'm so pessimistic). She needs to be stricter with herself and make some changes about how she works (her celebrity activites). Maybe this coaching team doesn't work well with her anymore. She's too talented for this to happen, sob.

^
She clearly isn't into being an actress. And I honestly think she handled her media attention the best a 16 yrs old could ever do. Just give her some time, it's tough when your goal of the year is the olympics and you have to compete somewhere else.

I think it's bigger problem than not being at Olympics to be honest. Still there's free, I don't think I will be watching it live :drama: I hope I will be proved wrong.
