Melissa Gregory thread

I'm trying to stay "unspoiled" for all the GP results, but I just had to read this thread. So sorry to read about Melissa's fall.  Thank goodness she'll be OK. :)

Wow. Glad to hear that they are ok. I was just looking at the final results and was like...where are Melissa and Denis? Now I know. Hope they are able to make it back soon.

Okay, I know this might be a no-no but was this on tape to view? It sounds awful and while I'm not trying to be tasteless, I would like to see it to understand what happened.

There's a link on MKF in the Skate Canada thread (under spoilers).

I'm so glad to hear she is doing well. I hope they will be able to compete in thier next GP.

(((hugs))) for Meliss and Denis.

Okay, I saw a video of this fall and a couple of things came to mind. First, this rotational lift looked awfully dangerous even when Denis had two hands on her, much less one hand. Was the lift suppose to go to one hand or was that part of the lift falling apart? Second, perhaps it was the video I saw but the fall did not *look* as bad as I thought it would be. Granted, she fell hard on her chest and there are lots of organs there but after seeing the Canadians fall on a rotational lift at the Oly's, this *seemed* tame in comparison. However, any kind of hard impact on your chest is bad and I can certainly see why she needed medical attention. Denis looked so perplexed when he was getting up from the boards...like "what just happened"...glad both are better.

I'm sure ESPN will show it over and over and over again this season :sheesh: Not something I'm looking forward to

I fell on my chest about a month ago (A great double Axel, crappy landing  ) and didn't break anything, however, I was still off the ice for 4 weeks, with chestpains, nausia and a aceing body (then there's the fact that you can't find a good position to sleep in... Try functioning with no more than a couple of hours of sleep every night). Falling on your chest is PAINFUL and it takes a long time to recover. I hope she gets better soon. I feel so sorry for her.

Hence my comment that it didn't *look* bad but certainly was in reality. Hope you you're feeling better

not only that but she hit her head... so there are/were major concerns there as well...

Melissa was released from the hospital last evening. Her chest, ribs, and side are badly bruised.

I wish both Melissa and Denis well. They are two terrific people.

Actually, she didn't hit her head so that's very good news. It sounds like she's just bruised up and very sore which is much better than dealing with a head injury. I think everyone thought she hit her head at first which is why they all reacted so quickly during the warm up. I need to give some mad kudos to the medical staff in QC for being so quick to react and help out. After watching the staff in Colorado Springs not get to Jessica Dube all that quickly after their accident back in February, I much prefer when the medical staff react immediately to an injury. Anyway, I'm very glad they both escaped serious injury and hopefully they can resume skating soon and not miss their second GP event.

As Kurt said this afternoon (paraphrasing here), it's a beautiful sport, but it's a dangerous one too and should be respected.

Very glad it sounds so positive. That was one scary looking fall.

My thoughts are w/Melissa and Denis tonight.

I really hope she gets well soon. I have a feeling the team will be hungrier after this setback and will be fighting not only for a podium spot at Nationals, but to win.

I remember seeing a t-shirt in the rink gift shop a few years ago that said: Want a safe sport? Play hockey.

Then a few lines down, Ice Dance: a full-contact sport

I'm glad to hear she did not hit her head but she was knocked unconscious from the impact with the ice and that was very scary. I can't imagine how Denis felt to stand up and see Melissa lying on the ice not moving.

I cannot possibly imagine how Denis felt but I know that I was there expecting Melissa to at least sit up and as seconds went by and she didn't move I really got scared for her. I was glad to see the rapid response by the medical team, though I thought at the time that they were taking a lot of time to get her off the ice, but now that I look back it was wise of them to make sure to stabilize her head just in case.

I guess the confusion came not only from those watching, but the media reports that happened soon afterwards... and they did check her head out according to latest reports... so I guess I just assume the worst lol

this is just terrible. I hope she can recover in time for the next GP event, athough this pretty much rules out the final. I feel so bad for them right now. Get well soon Melissa!!!

It is good that is sounds like it turned out to be not too serious in the end. A huge relief. Wish her all the best in her recovery and hope he is feeling better too.

and of course you have the sickos who are claiming Melissa was never hurt and was faking her injury just to avoid skating.
