I agree. I try to sit across from the judges so I feel I am in the same position. I would like the arenas to have a camera that zooms in on the skates that jumpers use more so than how pretty the convoluted spins are, or the flailing arms of the footwork. Not putting spins and footwork down, but they are quite easy to see. Jump landings are not.Depends on where you're sitting...most especially how high up you are. Arenas seriously need to have a camera that is zoomed in on the skater at all times and shown on a big screen for everyone to see. Obviously, this is not a realistic expectation for all competitions, but it SHOULD be for the major Senior competitions.
After you've analyzed jumps for a long time, though, you begin to see things that let you know the jump was underrotated -- most importantly a skater's blade making a sharp turn as they come down. If that quick skid is really obvious, then the landing is almost surely more than a quarter turn cheated.
The quick skid is a tell tale sign of underrotations but not the only way. There is also the poor landing in a squat (on one foot) which some fans will call an overrotation. I don't agree with that completely other than it is not a perfect jump. One other pet peeve of mine is, I have seen overrotations (Lambiel in Tokyo, e.g.) which drags the landing skate up hill. No one ever calls overrotations except during downgrades. Are they serious errors?
And yes, definitely for major senior competitions should install a special camera to show the public about that landing. It will increase interest in the Sport. Tennis is now a happier sport with that addition.
