I recieved an email from St. Paul today. It announced that the Men's Final will be on Sunday afternoon. So much for making plans in advance. New plane with penalties and another night in St Paul.

Was it always the plan to end with the Men? (What will they do with exhibition -- hold it at night?)

Goteborg Worlds shows that the Men will skate last, albeit with the Men's final on Saturday afternoon.

Televised finals

All four senior finals will be televised live. Pairs, Dance and Ladies on Saturday and Men on Sunday.

No, not until last year at some venue. I can't remember, but I always book out on Sunday and skip the Exhibitions. I had to extend an extra night in that case.
Exhibitions did follow that evening. Lots of extra money.

Goteberg will allow for fans to fly out on Sunday or if they choose to stay for the Exhibitions, fly out on Monday. That's not unusual.

[Oh yes, Ladies is pretty much a done deal so it is the Men that will be popular in Europe.]

Are you sure of that? I am one waiting to see what NBC will actually do.

In all fairness, I do not expect NBC to televise 30 Ladies in their LPs, but will it be 12 as ABC did? Similarly 12 Men, 12 Pairs (I doubt, maybe just 4), 12 Dance (doubt it, just 4),

Let's see.

Great News: NBC is showing 3 on Saturday and one 1 on Sunday.

We get 12 Ladies on TV but Men's, Pairs, and Dance are not specific.

wow. It's not so much that the ladies' FS is being split, but that the first batch skates at 9 a.m.?? Yikes...

Minnesota...that's central time, right?

I don't think the # of skaters to be shown on live TV have been decided for the other three. Ladies works out very nicely, though

I hope there is time for NBC to squeeze in some SP's in the broadcast.

I can't help but think, that NBC has done all it's homework to come up with that schedule (and it is NBC's schedule) If there is any time left, there will be no SPs but plenty of Fluff.

However, the boys are the sole attraction on Sunday. I imagine there will be clips of the previous day (not SPs) and an intereview with Megan Oster, the Gold Medal Winner at the 2008 US Nats.

Joe - your wishful thinking is so cute ;)

this is a weird line up as far as how they're doing things... the men's at least for the USFSA/Event coordinators is what will be the 'big show' closing out the competition? Have they EVER done that before?

Toni - They are not going to show 30 boys on Sunday. NBC will not be that gratuitous. Even if they show 12, it should be over by 3pm the latest. There must be a late afternoon flight back to Alaska which you could make, and there will be a 2 hours in your favor.

Joe

I'm a little confused? I wasn't talking about NBC's line up, I was talking about the Men skating as the final event in general. Normally it's the ladies event that closes out the US Nationals...

as for flights... I'll just be missing out on the exhibitions, which is probably a good thing when we're talking finances... and I could make class the next day if I did fly out after the men's event on that Sunday...

we'll see.

Last year in Spokane was the first time in a while that the Men's FS closed a U.S. Nationals competition (very fitting, too!).

The preliminary/unofficial schedule that I posted at http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?p=261355#post261355 currently has the men's event ending at 5 pm (Central time).

Back in the 80s, the ladies used to be on Saturday night and the men's final on Sunday afternoon.

interesting....

well the men's event is always more exciting anyway (even when it's a splatfest  )

I'm so torn. I technically could stay through to the exhibition (which is what, 7pm that Sunday?) and then have a midnight flight out of there... maybe... which would make it 9pm AK time... but then I'd still miss classes that monday

but that's nothing new considering I've done that twice before

but I dunno... gotta figure it out soon though...
