Even though I am sure his score was hugely inflated by National scoring, just like countless others at their Nationals including the recent Canadian and Japanese Nationals, so that is not a diss on U.S Nationals, it is a trend, Evan must have had an amazing performance to get that score still.
The all Tanith all the time show...Welcome to what things were like here in Canada during the B&K years. I swear the camera men were told to shoot Shae in the crowd regardless of the event. 
Congratulations once again to Evan on what sounds like the skate of his career tonight!! He just so impressed all of us a couple of years ago in Hamilton at 4CC w/his class and willingness to make us fans happy. I've kept my eyes out for him since and he just built on that potential that got us all talking that night in Hamilton.
Ryan was another one that wowed us that night. I remember overhearing someone in the crowd saying that in five years, the US Men would be a force to be reckoned w/if the potential we saw that night came to fruition. So far, so good. Looking forward to seeing this performance on YouTube too.
Johnny...Sigh...What to say. All the potential in the world and...Whatever happens, seems to happen. He just seems to have lost that fire he used to have that got all of us talking a couple of years ago and I honestly don't know what the answer is for that to come back. Of course, the injuries haven't helped in that, but...Just don't know. Maybe losing his title and ending up third will end up being the best thing in the world for him. He's also got close to two months to figure out what isn't working and get ready for Worlds. I hope the old Johnny Weir from a few years ago is on the ice in Tokyo. If so, then things could be very interesting indeed.

It's reminiscent of Tonya Harding getting 5.9's at 1991 US Nationals for artistic impression. But, we want to send our best, and give the team a confidence boost. Of course, the judges will still be coming up to the skaters to tell them what they think they should work on...

Another thing Johnny has is on his side is what happened tonight. If this isn't a sign that when the rest of the guys skate to what they can do and Johnny doesn't, he won't be held up anymore regardless, then I don't know what is!?!
So long as he looks at this for what it is, the chance to prove his critics wrong in Tokyo and show what he is truly made of...Then no worries.
Even though he does have more time than Eman does...There's only so much. I don't think Johnny's crossed that line yet though.
I'm sorry Johnny wasn't at his best and lost, but Evan was amazing, and deserved the gold. And Ryan Bradley- wow, I didn't see that coming! He's always been fun to watch, so I'm glad he finally skated as well as he did and medaled.
I hope this is a wake-up call for Johnny, and that he'll be at his best at Worlds.

Some of the judges gave Kristi 5.8s for technical merit and 5.9s for artistic impression though, so some of those judges either had to give Harding a 6.0 for techinical merit(as 1 judge did)or a 5.9 for both technical merit and artistic impression, as she pretty much had to win that night after her performance.
I see your point though. It is a good to send your best, and a way to give them an extra boost of confidence even if the skaters even know it is artificial. Like you say there will probably be more realistic corelation between the skaters and the judges afterwords.

Hopefully you are right. We will see at Worlds. Guys like Takahashi, Oda, Joubert, and now Lysacek here especialy have upped their game bigtime this year. Johnny has to as well and fast. Like you said hopefully his shattering experience here will serve as a real wake up call and motivation for Worlds.

He attempted, and landed, a Quad. He did great footwork and spins. He gave his program enormous power and passion, even after knowing that he'd lost the Gold medal.
Being nervous after someone has posted huge record numbers is not "losing your fire"...it's being human.

other than the fact that she's Tanith Belbin, I think the reason is because Evan's mom is no where to be found when the cameras are rolling, she hates to be shown on TV (not that many parents do, but from what I recall one of Evan's cousins telling us she just gets too nervous)

He two-footed it (although not too distractingly).
Evan had an amazing career-best skate. He deserved to win. It's just too bad that nearly the entire US figure skating assocation was grooming him for the position not based upon talent, but because he's more mainstream.

No doubt that Johnny's skating skill is better than Evan's. Even though Evan won this title, I still think that Johnny is a better skater. Of course, no matter how ridiculous his score was, tonight was Evan's. Evan deserves this title.
I hope that Johnny would learn from this lesson. Focus on his skating if he really wants to make any break through. Talent alone can not take him any further. Commitment and hard working are the key to success in the end.
