Is it a dis to write that Chan gets high marks even though he has no quad and an iffy triple axel? What part of that statement is untrue?

Rather than responding so quickly, why not spend some time to go back and read all Medusa's posts since the start of this season?

You were the one who chose to respond to a post that was pretty objective re Chan. I happened to be looking through this thread at that time. Did you read all of Medusa's posts before writing yours? Why should I be held to that standard?

I'm sure Medusa, whose posts have been informative and fair this season, could respond better than I did, but really I'm not sure why she'd want to.

Sorry to hear about Brian's withdrawl. I hope his injury isn't too serious.

Congratulations to all the medalists!
Jeremy Abbott - great job. A truly historical win.
Takahiko Kozuka - a GPF's silver isn't bad at all, for a 19 y.o.
Johnny Weir - isn't it his 1st GPF medal?

WAY TO GO, JEREMY . . . GRAND PRIX FINAL CHAMPION!!!

He won his first Grand Prix medal ever this season and it was a gold at Cup of China and now he wins his first Grand Prix Final medal ever and again, it's a gold! What a remarkable feat! The GPF has been in existence since 1995-1996 through the US reigns of Rudy Galindo, Todd Eldredge, Michael Weiss, Tim Goebel, Johnny Weir, and Evan Lysacek, but Jeremy Abbott is the one who becomes the first US man ever to win the title at the senior level! Amazing!

I hope to cherish many more golden moments from this spectacular skater whose skating I , plus he seems like such a nice young man and he's so attractive to boot. Abbott makes me believe in skating again. Beautiful!:love:

What was Kozuka's first jump about?
Was it a quad? Was he suppose to run after the landing?

Awwww, I love your posts! I thought that running so cute:laugh: I guess perhaps not intended because he was a shy, sincere, serious Romeo.

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful post with us. I appreciate it.

I myself was also so excited for both Jeremy and Kozuka. They were both fantastic.

Despite the falls, Kozuka had a very good skate with thrilling speed and amazingly big, solid jumps. He was a fighter throughout the performance. Especially, putting a 3A at the end of the performance really means something.

Jeremy was so fantastic. He looked significantly faster than he did at SP. Quality jumps and quality spins. Although he may sometimes look rather introverted and a bit nervous, I was happy to see him so joyful and full of energy during the performance tonight.

I was also so happy to see Tomas perform:love: However good or bad he is doing, I can't get my eyes away from him. He has great charisma.

It's hard to believe Jeremy won gold. I never really have seen much of his skating and was never impressed when I did. However watching him in Gotenborg, I thought he does have talent. Can he control those nerves?, and never expecting more than a podium finish at his best in a GP.

Boy, was I wrong!! I think his nerves are now controlled, and I look forward to him skating better and better in the US Nats, the 4CC and the LA Worlds.

Very nice to see Johnny get a bronze, and feeling a bit sorry for Kozuka slipping to second but after all it is Silver! What can anyone say about Tomas?

After watching both men's senior and junior GPF, I thought to myself that this will become a phenomenal battle field in the near future... with Jeremy Abbott (not as young as I thought, but new to me:biggrin:), Takahiko Kozuka, Patrick Chan already outstanding as seniors and Florent Amodio, Armin Mahbanoozedah yet to come. Oh, boy.... I wish we had a Korean 'male' Yuna, so that Koreans can get more coverage concerning the boys ;)

This is very comforting for me, because my heart has been aching for Kozuka...

...regarding Jeremy...
Joe, I've been waiting for you to wake up so that I could thank you. Somehow I remembered your positive and hopeful comments on Jeremy before and took time to watch him skating. It was absolutely worth it!

What a well rounded mature human being he is!

I wonder will this years US nationals will still be geared torward the ladies. With the men going 1 and 3 in GPF. Also Evan, Ryan, and Stephen medalling. Will we finally get full coverage of the men. It makes more since to highlight real(reasonable) chances at world medals than to put our women up to be compared with mao and yuna.

I am sooooooo happy for Jeremy. I always knew he was a good skater but tonight he was extraordinary on the ice. He is always one of my favorite skaters and I have been rooting for him. Korean audience loved his saying “gamsahamnida”(thank you in Korean) in the kiss and cry zone.
I can’t wait to see his skating again at 4CC and Words. He’s just getting better and better…

His interview is available at

Eurosport finally showed the highlights - including all the guys' LPs except for Chan (I guess they were pressed for time? Or maybe it just wasn't a highlight). So now I can offer a more informed opinion as to the results:

Jeremy Abbott
I dislike the music but love the program. Excellent job overall. My only slight quibble would be the GOEs, which were a bit higher than I felt was warranted. He had two jumps that looked slightly imperfect to me, so I'd have had his score maybe a couple points lower. He's definitely going places this year, and I'm very happy for him.

Takahiko Kozuka
What others describe as zen-like calm looks from my couch like rather emotionless skating. He's a very good skater and did some nice jumps and spins, but this wasn't his day, and I don't think Romeo and Juliet is his music. The outfit needs to go, too. I don't want the guys over-sequined and feathered, but he looked like he was wearing his pajamas. I was surprised his PCS was high - the choreo looked a bit lacking at times. I'm still not sold on this guy.

Johnny Weir
I'm not sure what to say. It didn't leave any impression on me. Johnny needs to go back to being Johnny; this was bland. I think he was better on the SL steps at NHK.

Tomas Verner
Ye gods. It was like a mini-Worlds for him, what with all the mistakes. He looked to me to be totally out of the program, I'm not used to seeing him go through the motions like that. Maybe the time has come for Tomas to speak to a sports psychologist - and to work a bit on his conditioning.

I can't believe Abbott is the Grand Prix Final champion. Good for him!

OMG! I can't belive that! He must be on cloud nine.:clap::clap::clap::clap:

I wonder what Johnny is thinking. Abott has all of Johnny's artistry and has landed a clean quad in competition.

hope his back injury isn't too serious, I read somewhere it happened three days ago and I'd imagine the fall yesterday aggravated it. I'm guessing he'll skip French Nats (surely the flight back from Korea will do his back no good) and leave Ponsero and Preaubert to fight it out, plus that guy who just won JGPF - Amodio?

Don't some flights now offer seats in First or Business Class that go all the way back to turn into a flat bed? If any of those fly out of Seoul, Brian or his coach should look into them. At least it would be an easier flight for someone suffering from a bad back.

My Dad has chronic bad back problems. I remember once when I was little Mom had to drive us home from Toronto, w/our travel trailer attached and Dad flat out on his back in it on the floor. I've also thrown my own out a few times. A back injury is one of the worst things in the world to happen to you, so I hope Brian's able to figure out a way to get home w/out managing to make it worse due to having a long sit on an airplane.

On a brighter note...CONGRATULATIONS JEREMY!!

I can't wait to see this skate when the CBC shows it over the Holidays. Sounds like he shot the lights out and then some. I really liked what I saw of him last season and was looking forward to seeing what he'd bring this season. Didn't expect this though. Wow!!

Also Congratulations to Johnny!! Sounds like he's beginning to peak just in time for the big competitions to come. Johnny always tends to do better as the season goes on, so I don't really worry about him during the GP series. Now if he comes out sluggish at US Nationals, then I worry. It does sound like Viktor and Galina have Johnny just where he should be at this point of the season though.

Oh Patrick...Oh well, these things happen and the kid is only 18 and it's only his second full season on the GP. Just chalk this one to experience and move on to prepare for Canadians and what Kurt Browning once called the hardest thing for a Champion to attempt. To defend a title.

^ I don't think it will be too hard for Chan to defend his title against the current crop of male Canadian skaters.

Patrick had huge 3As that had great height and distance. If he had landed them, it would have been spectacular:love:

Don't be so sure, Fedor is coached by Brian Orser and he has been working really hard, not to mention his programs are choreographed by Jeffery Buttle.

Anyone know where I can find Jeremy's LP? I'm being blacked out by IN again (I'm ready to just give up on that), and I am impatiently looking for it with no luck lol.

Thank you all for your posts. Congratulations to the medalists, and I very much hope that Brian's back injury will be of the temporary kind.
