Men's Short Program | Golden Skate

Men's Short Program

I can't believe i just missed Jamal...after hearing Joe sing his praises I wanted to be sure to watch him skate............

Anyway...I can't watch this tonight, but what an exciting line up!!!!!!

Othman - a bit flappy with the arms through the program (shades of Dick here!) for my taste. Jump trouble. :) E-Man Next!!

E-Man!! <crying> Quad - fall. 3A step out. 3 but no combo. Liked the program, especially the footwork and spins (a bit of an odd camera angle on the footwork - couldn't tell for sure if he worked the whole rink) BOO HOO!!!!!!

The men seem to all be having a rough start this year, except for Takahashi (sp) at SA.

Shawn Sawyer - I predict he move into first. Music seems to suit him. Not sure if that first jump was a 4/3 or 3/3 (3/3 I think - my old and feeble eyeballs don't move that fast) but very well done. Spins seemed a bit on the slow side, but really nice positions - fully stretched etc. from my point of view. I take back my "rough start" comments. :)

SHOCKED that Shawn's PCS is so much lower than E-Man. Anyone who is more expert - ideas on why? Running off again...

LURVE Oda. Too bad about that axel, but great spins and what a cool program!! It seems like he's putting some "fun" into the drama of the music. :) Will happily watch that one again! Over six pts behind E-man on PCS?? BAH!! I hope for some comforting news from the experts on this!

MATT INTO FIRST. <note to Matt, if you need a girlfriend in your next life, please keep me in mind. Emma, you can KEEP Rohene!> :) Can't wait to see the score sheets. Sure looked like a jam packed, highly intricate program to me. GO MaAATT, GO MaAATT!

OMG!! Warm up group - Zhang in Day Glo + White Out. He really deserves an Office Depot sponsorship of some sort. (see pairs short comments)

Prediction - Buttle into first. (ETA by a long shot!) VERY high energy program - IMO really "uses" the music. Despite the hand down on the 3, overall quality and energy and excitement very cool to me.

Tentatively glad for Johnny. Though his elements score was actually slightly lower than Honda's.

well that was fun while it lasted for Matt!!! still great going Matt! :) here's hoping he can pull up a spot or two in the long (or three!) :agree:

A few comments based on the video clips :

Griazev - does the costume come from the same source as Joubert´s freeskate one, LOL? I think that with a passionate music like this a skater´s lack of passion (spunk?) and lack of true interpretation talent become sooo visible, unfortunately. Wrong music choice, I wonder if Tarasova is not making an effort any more?

Othman - his interpretative skating is always such a pleasure to watch, even if he is not fully successful in the jumps. What a beatiful skater!!!

Buttle - WOW!!! Hoping though that he would be able to get his jumping better technically and better-looking...

Weir - Although he fell, this is my favourite programme and performance of the evening. What a flow and what a beauty he has in his skating and WHAT AN INTERPRETATION of the music, WOW!!!

Zelenka - I really enjoyed this performance. He has passion and it really feels that he is skating from his heart...

Savoie - a beautiful performance, but it kind of feels empty, it lacks something.

Zhang - sooo unfortunate that he had two falls, huh. Otherwise I really liked this programme.

Oda - I hope that he succeeds better in freeskate.

Sawyer - enjoyable

Sandhu - WOW, what a performer!!! I hope that the freeskate will go better.

Honda - Oh my, this was sooo enjoyable, Honda seems to be back again. LOL, the Japanese Nationals will be extremely exciting.
