Men's SP

Poor Oda he looked very disappointed with himself. Never would have thought he would be in 6th place, but you know what they say about the short program-execute or be executed

Holy cow...you guys can be mean. I should stop lurking on this site as I realze that I just really love skating. I no longer need to rip other skaters apart to enjoy my favourites. I AM Canadian and LOVE my Canadian skaters (mainly because I have watched them forever and am amazed at how muchthey can improve), but ultimately it is all about the skate. Patrick Chan is so young and is doing amazing things. Is it necessary to belittle his every accompishment? I'm glad he doesn't care what you guys think!!!

It's typical of virtually every competition. You'll see it during Worlds concerning US skaters as well.

I think he overtrained himself. His practices weren't going well - he crashed into boards 7 times.

Like Mao, he had a lot of competitions/shows recently - Nationals, MOI, Nagoya Fes, Japanese Super Challenge, SOI in Osaka and Tokyo... He didn't even have time to train with Morozov.
Maybe the JSF will learn not to exhaust their skaters after this... :(

Such a shame, because I love this SP. Here is a perfect performance at the Nagoya Festival: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrTAx_QzQSo

Good luck in the LP, Nobu!

Some good skates from several men and a really great one from Patrick tonight.

Good luck to everyone in the LP. I'll be rooting particularly for Kozuka because he's a fabulous skater who always gets underscored.

Do you know how many people predicted Evan off the podium? Go look in the prediction thread. Well, I predicted him to be the winner, that probably won't happen either especially since Chan seems to be able to hand in a 5 or 6 Triple performance (see Skate Canada, Canadian Nationals) and still knocks everyone out in the LP.

Great job Evan. I knew that 3rd place at Nationals would give him some fire (oops, third place at Skate America, third place at Skate Canada, third place at Nationals...).

Kozuka was wobbly on most of his jumps no + GOE when he usually get +2.That cost him 6 points maybe and chan beat his pcs by 5 points

Kozuka was completely hosed on PCS, Abbott got 2 points higher about then him, and Abbott was slow, tepid and fell. Kozuka got a 36 at GPF, and he should have gotten around that here. This kind of thing makes me angry. Kozuka has some of the best skating skills in the world, and that was a very flowly performance. He should have been at least at a 79.

He has the best. Chan is also very good, as is Ponsero. But I think Kozuka is in class on his own, especially concerning flow and edging. He got nearly a point less on Skating Skills than Chan - and also less than Abbott, Lysacek etc.

I hope Joubert has seen this and gets busy with his Quads, pronto please! He probably won't be able to win the SP against Chan (though he had three time level 2 at Europeans and still scored nearly 87) - but a maxed-out 2Quad performance in the LP should do it. And Ponsero should reclaim that Quad Salchow.

I agree. The anti-Canadian stuff around here is getting to be really unpleasant. And not justified in this competition so far as I can see. Chan clearly deserved to win the SP, and he did. Hope he skates like this at worlds.

This must be a big boost to Lysaceck coming off such a disappointing season to date.

Oda faltered a little under the sky-high expectations, but he's still well within reach of a medal. And Kozuka continues to shine.

I agree! I can't imagine what it will be like during the Olympics!

Wow, such a talented group of men for the final flight of the LP . . . Chan, Lysacek, Kozuka, Abbott, Mroz, and Oda. Should prove to be a nail-biter!

Patrick's pretty much got this competition in the bag. He should likely sail to the gold medal. With the big lead he has, he can fall on a triple Axel and still win.

Jeremy's gotta be kicking himself over missing the Lutz, such an easy jump for him. Such a silly goof! I think he will skate mad at himself in the LP and come back, as the LP has always been known as his strength. I think he will fight and take silver here.

Evan, I think will finish with bronze, but there's a definite possibility he can finish off the podium as this LP has not been his friend this season. He's dropped in the standings pretty much in every competition this season after the LP (only the 4th best LP at Nationals, being beaten by Ryan Bradley twice in the LP this season at Nationals and at Skate Canada, dropping from 1st in the SP to 3rd overall at Skate America). Oda, Kozuka, and Mroz will be right there should Lysacek continue to fall to the occasion.

I hope all the men skate to the best of their abilities! *hopes for clean skating*:bow:

Kozuka being beaten in PCS by Lysacek by almost 4 points has to be the biggest joke of the competition in the scoring so far. Absolutely ridiculous! Guess the judges see artistry in all the arm flailing and over-dramatized acting?

Damn. My IN video went black and missed the last group of Men except for Kozuka who always skates decently. From what I've been reading, no one came near Chan. I can believe that. He has been special since I first saw him in a GP a few years back. I think he will be one of the top 3 at the LA Worlds. Pesonally, if Ponsero can hold it together, I think the two will be the main competition.

If I understand the above posts, Evan did a decent program and Mroz caught some new fans. But I have no idea of the results. I assume it's Chan, Kozuka, Lysacek.

I'm ok with that, but there could be changes after the LP.

i agree about Kozuka's PCS being too low - definitely do not understand that.

I, too, find it ridiculous.

PCS can fluctuate based on how well you skate. It's not just about how artistic you are.

Great skate from the top 3!

Patrick did a wonderful job, his footwork is the best in class. But the 50+ TES is rediculous. His 3A still seems to be >1/4 pre-rotated to me and the lip is obvious. That said, I really admire him for handling the pressure so well.

Good for Evan to be able to pull off a near perfect performance after the dissapointed 3rd place finish at Nationals! I hope he'll keep the good momentum and peak at Worlds.

Kozuka impressed me a lot this season, and reminded me of my favorite skater - Daisuke. But he needs some serious work on his posture and extension.

Wish all the men skate to their best on Saturday.

I'm very well aware of that, but Lysacek over Kozuka by 4 points in PCS is still a joke. It's not like Taka skated abysmally.
