Michael Jackson Dead

Writing a check for ten million dollars would take MJ what - about 5 minutes?
five minutes it is way too much time for a check;) When i write mine () it takes me 5 seconds..but on the other hand, my checks usually have just one zero after "1".

To be serious, thank you for all this info about the song :)It was a great insight in the behind the scenes of the final output that arrive to us, your post was one of best posts I ve read.I enjoyed it a lot.

janetfan, Thank you for a wonderful post.

For those who don't remember We Are the World, there's a wikipedia entry describing what it was and what went on.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Are_the_World
Michael also did work with orphans

So Michael was not only charitable, he had the world record for charity for a pop star, according to Guinness World Records.

Thanks so much for your very informative post Doris. It is nice to read about all of the charities he was involved with and to hear of his many kind deeds.
I was not aware of the full extent of MJ's charity work and I hope your post will help some of his fans remember he more than just his music.

I, too, prefer the charity worker/giver who does not parade around and broadcast all they're doing. It makes it very fake. Something you are either obligated to do, or a way to keep your name in the public eye in a positive way. A lot of celebs do that after a run of bad press... it's annoying and doesn't really seem to be all that charitable.

Thankyou for your kind words seniorita.
I hope you are not drinking too much ouzo again today? ;)

i listened to the song tonight after many years and saw the video and oh my god, it sounds as fresh as it was written now. Tune sounds so simple but grand(i dont know a word now) and all these music giants all together, one voice better than the other.
Do you know in which languages it was translated? In greek it was recorded by greek artists, i still remember the lyrics.

I have no idea how many languages the various sheet music editions of "We Are The World" were translated into. It should be mentioned that Lionel Richie is a co-author of the song and helped in the creative process and charity efforts.

I just read a nice article in greek that talked about the great stops of his career but not like the way it ' s been happening these days, more in depth. I loved the title also,The moonwalker is skywalking now....:)

I was just watching an MJ retrospective and "We Are The World" earned over 50 million dollars that was donated to African charities.

I was not a huge Michael Jackson fan, but did like some of his earlier hits. He was a very lonely, misunderstood artist. No one can deny his talents, but I think the media was often not kind to him. Success can sometimes be one's undoing...

a lot of the 'weird' stories that were "leaked" to the press were done so by his own people... in order to keep him in the public interest...

I will agree that he was a lonely/unhappy guy, though. some of the documentaries that have been rerun this past week have really had me feeling sorry for him (for the most part)

have you seen his oprah interview or a video where Liz Teylor gives him his first christmas tree?He was more than 30 there..
so sad childhood..I hope he knew how many people didnt pay attention to the media dragging him.

Christmas tree was due to his family's religion. I don't think that's what made his childhood a nightmare (how about his dad sitting in on rehearsals with a belt that he would use on the children when they'd have a misstep in the choreography or sing off key/screw up)

one of Michael's dateline interviews he revealed that his father used him as the example... when he was 10! way too much pressure for a little kid.

i didnt mean that chr. tree was the reason of his bad childood, just that in the video he was acting like a little child watching santa claus, it went actually for the lonely comment.
I dont know all the details about his dad either, all I knew is he tortured the jackson 5 kids and MJ hated being in the group first years.

I guess I just misunderstood, I just don't see a Christmas tree as a symbol for why he had a lonely childhood... it's just not the way of the Jehovah's Witnesses (they don't do birthdays either... one of my coworkers is a devout JW and some of our other coworkers don't like her stance and try to force it, which I think is awful even if I don't agree with the religion myself)

Ah I m sorry, please bare in mind english is not my mother language, in my post I said about oprah interview and the video where taylor gives him a christmas tree, and then I commented he had sad childhood, not because of christmas tree itself but as a resume i got from the tv shows above.
In oprah video he speaks a lot about the joy he had missed as a child working always and being punished, how his father scared him with a mask from the window and he couldnt sleep for years without the light on and more more stuff, in the video with taylor he acts like a child who took the santa claus gift seeing his house warm and happy decorated, i think it was just clear he was a lonely person who missed love and doing things normal children do.

Is Diana Ross the godmother of his children? I heard a report that if his mother (no mention of his dad, which I say if he's still in the mother's house then keep the kids away that man is horrid!) can't take the kids he wanted Diana Ross to take them????

I'm off of work today and watching the memorial. The family is currently at Forest Lawn. They are saying that Michael's body will be at the memorial at Stapels.

My stomach is like a comb and when they put him in the room and people start screaming, i just closed tv for a while.
I dont think i can watch this...
