Although I knew some things about Michael's charity works I didn't know some of the things they are bringing up today....wow!!!

The entertainers are great but Jermaine sang "Smile"....his eyes are swollen from crying and he cried while singing but he did an excellent job....I didn't realize how much he and Michael sound alike singing.

Al Sharpton as usual got everyone revved up.

Jennifer Hudson was terrific.

Usher broke down singing.

The cast from the tour did the final song. I don't know if they said anything about the tour. I will have to listen again.

Thank you Dee. I think they said something before the We are the world song, about request or vote from his fans, but maybe I m wrong, i was upset a bit and l didnt listen well.
I m sorry for silly questions, i ve never seen a memorial before and got a bit shocked...

The speaker was recalling how Michael was proudest of that last song, We Are The World/Heal The World medley.

The bit about the fans' request, I think I know what you are talking about. I saw on Fox News (not the most reliable source I know) an interview with someone, a woman, who worked with Michael and he said he was very excited about the tour, and recalled that he would say "This many people want to hear this song, this many want to hear that one..." reading something compiled probably from online or something. I think that's what you're talking about.

Heartwarming, bittersweet memorial. I wish the press would leave him alone, but you know that won't happen for at least another few months...

Speaking of which, I watched Plushy's MJ short from 01 GWG and am STUNNED at how well he captured the essence of MJ in his program, the choreography was spot on and to think I did not like that program when I first saw it LOL.

This is just so funny but I was thinking today about Evgeny skating to the Jackson medley. Also Victor Kraatz and Shae-Lynn Bourne skated to a Jackson medley at the 01-02 season .

The cast from the tour did a lot of the backup singing today. I loved it when they danced in a circle around Jennifer Hudson, which in the tour they would have done that with Michael.

His daughter brought everyone to tears...his children are beautiful. Prince Michael is getting so big. Blanket has the biggest eyes.

Petrenko's was AWESOME too.

I would love to have my characters skate to some of his music, particularly the ballads because I was always a sucker for the slow stuff. Earth Song, Stranger In Moscow, Man In The Mirror, She's Out Of My Life, You Are Not Alone (my first exposure to R. Kelly's songwriting), Will You Be There, Gone Too Soon, those are some of my very favorite ballads of his. I love. Listening to these, and other songs like They Don't Really Care About Us, Heal The World, Little Susie, We Are The World, Tabloid Junkie, Leave Me Alone, and Scream, and especially Childhood, they're like a window to his soul, JMHO.

I liked the Free Willy sequels, but nowhere near as much as I ADORED the first one, and listening to the HIStory album (my only album I have of his), and hearing Childhood for the first time in years, I thought about MJ, NOT about Free Willy 2. I think that song was actually written more about HIM, than the film even though it fit the film fairly well too.

Just wanted to put this out there:

What I am grateful for is the BET network rerunning his old videos, because honestly TV is so dull these days it's a nice refresh to watch these again. There's no denying, whether you love him, like him, dislike him or despise him, that he was a phenomenal entertainer, who broke down barriers of race, and a wonderful humanitarian, and honestly that's how he should be remembered IMO. The media thrives on exploiting the lives and deaths of people, and because Michael was, for 40 years, a media gold mine, the press often went too far. I agree that some of that was technically invited by MJ, and I will admit he was a narcissist, but that's not really the worst quality a person can have. He had far greater qualities that the press didn't seem to notice or care about until now, and why? Because it did not sell. Simple as that.

So I am doing my part to pay tribute to Michael by watching as little of the mainstream news networks as possible the past few days. Someone on youtube actually gave me that idea when they said that's what they were doing. They trashed him in his life, and they will trash him in death. I'd rather my impression not be tarnished by that. It's also a good way to avoid the overkill, just turn off the news.

I totally agree.

I think his memorial service today was very respectful. I knew some things about him but learned so much more today, especially as you say being a wonderful humanitarian.

MTV showed all of his music videos last week after the news broke... first time since I've had MTV I've actually seen Music Videos on that dang channel (I don't watch it because I think it's all disgusting, but I did watch the Michael/Jackson Five specials) VH1 did a history of MJ Music Videos and a countdown of the top 10


I've come to really feel sorry for Michael on a lot of levels over the last week. I don't think he was truly happy with his life, career yes, life... I think other than his kids he was very lonely... his childhood wasn't all that great either... which I already knew, but just watching some footage of him talking about it years later makes you wonder...

not a fan of some stuff he's done over the years, but I will admit I just spent over 25 bucks on iTunes downloading his music. I'd forgotten how GOOD a lot of the music was (good and 80s music doesn't normally go together... for me anyway lol)

Good Will Games... it was something Hollywood television producer Ted Turner came up with in the 90s (80s???) kind of a pre olympic games with whatever he wanted ot throw in there... IIRC 2001-2002 was the last year they had one.

oddities for MJ range from what he and his publicists did - the "I want to live till I'm 150" enquirer gag.... bubbles the chimp... etc... to the legal troubles - which I'm not a fan of. That wasn't media based... he put himself in a bad situation AT BEST.

Well he didnt live until 150, didnt he?
Maybe we ll never know what happened actually with legal matters, but didnt his cases went to court, examined by doctors etc and got innocent?We do I need to trial him now for eternity?

I accept extreme popular people can turn a bit of weirdos, but what about having a chimbagee, ross from friends had one also. I ve seen worst pets. And first time I remember watching MJ on MTV he must have had a numerous plastic surgeries already, but so did Pamela Anderson at the same era(Baywatch), i just thought hers were a bit more successful.
